A beautiful hot chocolate to make for the family whenever the mood strikes. When is hot chocolate not welcome?

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate (or semisweet, coarsely chopped )
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • whipped cream (Schlag,see recipe below) (optional)
  • english toffee, crushed (optional)
  • unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
    In a saucepan combine milk, water, and sugar.
  2. 2
    Stir over medium heat until mixture just comes to boiling.
  3. 3
    Remove from heat.
  4. 4
    Stir in chocolate and vanilla.
  5. 5
    Beat with an immersion blender, rotary mixer, or whisk until chocolate is melted and mixture is frothy.

    TO SERVE:.

    Pour hot chocolate into cups.

    If desired, top with Schlag, crushed English toffee, and cocoa powder. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

    SCHLAG:

    In a mixing bowl combine 1 cup whipping cream, 2 tablespoons sugar, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.

    Beat until soft peaks form (tips curl).

Mmm, mmm good. Made with out all the options as the holidays are coming. You can not go wrong with this hot chocolate as it is smooth, creamy and not overly sweet. Thanks for the post.
