St. Patrick's Day Rice Krispie Treats

Recipe #361188 | 2¼ hours | 15 min prep | add private note

I needed to make a green St. Paddy's Day dessert that everyone would eat... very easy, family favorite! The cooking time listed here is the cooling time. These are best if eaten the same day they're made, but can be made ahead for special occasions.

SERVES 24 , 24 squares (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 1 (10 ounce) package marshmallows

  • 1 (2 1/4 ounce) jar green sugar candy sprinkles
  • 6 cups KELLOGG'SŪ RICE KRISPIESŪ cereal

Directions

  1. 1
In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Add the green sprinkles, stir well. Remove from heat.
  2. 2
Stir in the Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal coating them well with the melted marshmallow mixture.
  3. 3
Using a buttered or silicone spatula, press the mixture evenly into a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan which has been buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with wax paper.
  4. 4
Cut into squares when the mixture cools.

Thanks for posting this recipe, I had placed the rice krispie bag in an airtight container, disposed of the box and didn't have the recipe!! Dgs and Dgd helped me make these, we didn't add food coloring, we sprinked the top with red, white and blue sprinkles for the 4th!

Cute idea. I have been making rice krispie treats for years but never thought to put "coloring" in them. I made these for Easter and everyone enjoyed them. Made for Spring PAC 2009.

After the marshmallows are melted you can remove the pan from heat and add some green food coloring and then stir in the rice krispies and you could use whatever color of food coloring you want.
