Sarah's Vegan Oatmeal Amazingness Cookies

Recipe #378932 | 32 min | 20 min prep | add private note

By: The Bad Cook
Jun 26, 2009

This vegan chocolate chip oatmeal cookie eats more like a breakfast food than a cookie. If you are looking for a sweet desert cookie for kids, this recipe might not work. However, if you are trying to eat healthy, preserve the environment, and indulge in a little yumminess, then this is an excellent cookie to bake! (I personally like the cookies chilled.) I thank my friend, Sarah F., for giving me this fabulous recipe. NOTE: For the ease of posting, I listed an egg in the ingredients. Egg Replacer works perfectly well in this recipe and it is usually how I make. If you live near Trader Joe's, their orange flavored cranberries are perfect for this recipe. Also, you can substitute currants or dried berries for the raisins.

SERVES 36 , 36 cookies (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. 2
Mix all of the ingredients together. With wet-hands (or a moistened cookie scoop) put heaping tablespoons of batter on a slightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes. They will appear very soft after baking, but they will harden after they cool. Transfer the cookies to a plate after 15 minutes of cooling.

Egg replacers are often made with parts of the egg, so true vegans might not want to even use egg replacers. My suggestion is to use a banana in place of an egg. Works amazingly well in any cookie recipe and you can't even taste "banana" flavor (only just a bit). One banana is worth 2 eggs. So this recipe could use 1/2 banana instead of an egg or egg replacer. I am assuming the applesauce replaces the "fat" (vegan butter) so that is an extra plus. I can't wait to try this recipe (with a banana of course)!

This might be a good recipe. But, to call it "vegan" when it has egg in it, doesn't make any sense because true vegans don't use eggs. Of cou5rse, they could read the recipe and use flax seed for the egg or use an egg substitute. It did bother me though that it was called 'vegan" and still had an egg in the ingredients list.
