Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Noodles in Brown Sage Butter

I came up with this recipe after having a similar dish in a local restaurant. The flavors are not big and robust, but rather are subtle and very comforting. My meat & potatoes husband likes this as a side dish but would not consider it a main dish. However, my son and I eat it as a vegetarian main dish and both crave it when we go too long without it! Cooking time is start-to-finish and includes roasting the sweet potatoes about 40 minutes. -- posted by Park Rangerette

Maple Glazed Apple and Sweet Potato Gratin

Move over marshmallows here's a new twist on an old favorite. Apples and maple syrup add a sweet surprise to this candied yam inspired casserole, sure to be a staple for Thanksgivings to come. And your young chefs will love making it almost as much as eating it! I found this recipe inb Working Mother magazine. I have not tried this recipe, but I'm posting it for safe keeping. -- posted by internetnut

Tempura Vegetables (Also Fish, Shrimp or Calamari Rings)

My daughter has been asking me to make tempura so I've been on the lookout for recipes. This recipe was found in the LCBO's Food & Drink Spring 2009 magazine.
For the best results, make sure you don't over mix the batter. The beer and rice flour produce a delicate, crispy batter. This recipe only includes vegetables but you could also try fish, peeled shrimp or calamari rings.
You can also experiment with other veggies. -- posted by Dreamer in Ontario

Savory Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes

I was looking for an easy dinner that didn't involve a trip to the grocery store, and this is what I came up with based on what I had lying around.
Sweet Potato Pie With a Twist

My mother gave me this sweet potato recipe for my first Thanksgiving dinner I cooked as a Mrs., even my mother-in-law liked it! Depending on how you use your topping, you could make this for a with dinner dish or a dessert. It has gotten me through quite a few office pot-lucks as well. -- posted by Giliberto family chefs

Potato, Beetroot and Sweet Potato Gratin

If you are looking for a sweet potato dish that looks beautiful and isn't loaded with brown sugar and marshmallows, this is it. From the Australian Women's Weekly. An excellent winter side dish with roast meat or as a vegetarian main course. I used lite evap instead of cream, and baked ricotta with chillies and rosemary. DH & I loved it-- the leftovers made a wonderful lunch to take to work. BTW, beetroot translates to red beets in the USA. -- posted by taxingwoman

Grandma's Sweet Potato Crunch (Also Called Sweet Potato Souffle)

My grandma did not like marshmallows on her sweet potatoes, but she would make it half and half for the kids. When she would make this for the holidays there was always a little Maker's Mark in it, but you can also leave the bourbon out if you don't have any on hand. I make mine just like she always did, and I still sneak into the fridge with a spoon and go after these potatoes! This recipe makes enough for about 6-8 people, but we usually double it since it's so good cold. -- posted by CharlieGal

Sweet Savory and Spicy Potato Salad

My friend Tricia made this for a cookout and I fell in love! It is the only potato salad I will make from now on. My husband never eats potato sald. He says "If there is meat around, why waste the time on side dishes?" He ate two HUGE servings of this......it is THAT good! If you cannot find candied jalapenos, just use one small fresh jalapeno (seeded and minced) and a tablespoon of sugar....it is just as good. We love curry, so we add more curry powder. Taste it and customize it to your taste!

The long prep time is the passive time needed to chill the potatoes. -- posted by LizP

The Mama's Thanksgiving Maple Sweet Potatoes and Apples

Whipped Sweet Potatoes and Bananas With Honey

From Tyler Florence, Ultimate Thanksgiving. I like the idea of using banana and honey instead of sugar for the sweetness. I can't stand those yucky, overly sweet sweet potatoes that we here in the south usually serve. This is a better option for those of us who enjoy sweet potatoes without all the sugar. I did retain the pecan topping but you can probably cut it back to 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Enjoy! -- posted by ThreeGoodCooks
