P.s. I Love You! (Cocktail Beverage)

This recipe from the *Nightcaps* section of the Australian Women's Weekly "Cocktail Guide" cookbook would surely be a lovely way to end a romantic evening. *Enjoy* (Note: There is another version of this drink w/the same name already posted, but they are distinctly different.) *Edited to Add* on 9/19/08 -- For any who might be curious about the strength of this cocktail, I ck'd the % of alcohol in ea ingredient & found that Amaretto is 24%, Kahlua 26.5% & Bailey's 17%. As the amts of ea are equal, the % of alcohol by volume is 22.5%. :-) -- posted by twissis

Oven-Fried Chicken

This recipe comes from a "Cooking for Two" recipe book my step mom has. It is definately not like traditional fried chicken, but is worth trying. It is so good and has been one of my favorites for years! The wheat germ as a delicately flavored sweet-nutty crunch and is a good source of vitamin E.
I like to use sesame oil instead of vegetable oil and sometimes I use Italian bread crumbs instead of plain. -- posted by mallow_cherub

Moroccan Style Balsamic Cornish Game Hens

I’ve made this recipe often in the past, and while putting together my LJ recipe entry list (see http://www.julesong.com/cook/LJentry-recipes.htm ) I discovered it again! I adapted it to our tastes. It was one of our favorites, is perfect for romantic dinners, and it’s absolutely delicious! Although it's easy to make, it takes a bit of time but is worth every minute. In my Sunday, February 10th, 2002 LJ entry, and her original was posted by KC at Gail’s Recipe Swap. Thanks, KC! She said “I always add lots of extra olives and dates. They taste wonderful. I have even caught friends in the kitchen looking through the pan for more olives and dates.” -- posted by Julesong

Redclaw Yabby (Crawfish) Pasta Sauce

We've been catching plenty of yabbies for the past few days and this is a recipe I came up with to use some of them. I started the sauce, then let it simmer while I cooked spiral pasta for the two of us. This sauce was really good as it didn't overpower the delicate sweetness of the yabbies. -- posted by JustJanS

Yet another discovery in my quest to collect healthy recipes. I found this one in the March 2008 copy of the BBC Good Food Magazine. It is nice to see a chicken and beans recipe that isn't tomato based and uses more than just a chicken breast. There is no reason a chicken thigh can't be super tasty and healthy. The recipe states that the dish can be frozen. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Valentine's Day Molten Chocolate Cakes for Two (Or More!)

OMG! These are to die for!!! Got these out of our local paper for the holiday and just made them. I used Giardelli's bittersweet choc. chips, Sucanat and whole wheat flour, but you may use whatever you have. I doubled the recipe and got 5 custard cup sized cakes. If you want more choc. lava, bake them for 10 minutes, less, 11-12. This is so quick and easy and it looks like you slaved in the kitchen, yet takes a total of 20 minutes from beginning to end! Wish I would have seen the recipe b4 my anniversary (which happens to be the 15th). -- posted by WI Cheesehead

Spiced Amaretto

I love Amaretto or other liqueurs for dessert. This could go either way, before or after dinner. I usually don't like the taste of most hard liquors, but the spiced rum with the amaretto was incredibly delicious! The addition of club soda makes it a nice before dinner drink, and, alternatively, the cream makes it a luscious dessert drink. (And I admit to using fat free half and half and it was great.)
Shrimp Longhi

I had this dish for dinner at Longhi's Restaurant in Maui when my husband and I went to Hawaii on vacation recently. My husband had the same dish for dinner a couple of days later, but his was made with scallops instead of shrimp. We both fell in love with it. What's not to love about seafood cooked in a scampi-style sauce then served over garlic toast? The original recipe was developed by Chef and Owner Bob Longhi. I've changed a couple of things to reflect our preferences. And as an aside, be sure not to toast the bread too long, or it becomes too hard and crunchy to eat! -- posted by Kendra*

Annemarie's Steak Au Poivre

There was a restaurant that I used to frequent when I lived in Tampa, Florida. They made the best steak au poivre I had ever tasted. It was cooked at the table and flambéed. I was always so impressed with the show and watched closely as my dinner was prepared. The first few times I made this I almost caught the kitchen on fire. After practicing however, my confidence and finesse flourished and now I keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, just in case. This dish tastes fine without the flame so if you're uncomfortable around fire don't worry about the presentation. It makes for a nice romantic dinner.
Ahoy There! Moules Marinières - French Sailor's Mussels

I adore moules, mussels, and this is the classic French recipe for them. Moules Marinières is also commonly known as Sailor's mussels or Mariner's mussels. The dish consists of delicately steamed fresh mussels in a white wine, garlic, parsley, butter, onion and cream sauce.
Moules Marinières can be served as an appetising starter or even a light main meal. It is delicious served with fresh crusty bread or with frites (chips/fries). There is nothing more mouth-watering than a huge bowl of artistically presented mussels, yet the fun part is eating them. The best way is to use an empty mussel shell as the "spoon" in which to pick the remaining mussels from their shells and then eat them. It's a brilliant excuse to use your fingers to eat rather than the usual knife and for - very tactile! A traditional French recipe will use butter, however the butter may be substituted for a few tablespoons of olive oil for a healthier option - I sometimes use a mix of butter and olive oil I hope you find the step-by-step photos helpful, this recipe was used in the September 2008 Cooking School for the TOTM - hopefully, the photos will debunk the myth that mussels are hard to prepare and cook, NOT so!
When choosing a wine to cook with, pick something affordable that you'd like to enjoy with the meal. For this recipe, you only need 1/2 cup, so there should be plenty left over to drink. The recipe recommends using your favorite hearty Cabernet Sauvignon or a spicy red Zinfandel. Its beautiful pink color makes it perfect for Valentine's Day, breast cancer awareness celebrations, baby or bridal showers, or any fun and festive occasion.
Pomegranate Mimosa (Mocktail)

Perfect for Valentine's Day or any special occasion, this very simple yet elegant non-alcoholic cocktail comes courtesy of the folks at Pom Wonderful. The amount of the cider is approximate -- the original recipe simply calls for "1 glass sparkling cider", which I've estimated at 6 ounces so as to better fit into a standard champagne flute. Feel free to adjust to your tastes. Using a champagne flute will allow the beauty of the drink to come through, with the dark red of the pomegranate juice filling the stem portion as the cider sparkles above. -- posted by Lynne the Pirate Queen

Kittencal's Pan-Seared Steak, Stove Top-To-Oven Method

There has been many requests for pan seared steak that is started in a skillet then finished cooking in the oven this is the recipe/method for the perfect seared steak---to insure perfect doneness you will need an instant-read thermometer for this, and you will need a cast-iron or a heavy oven-proof skillet --- the times listed are for 2-1/2-inch thick steaks preferably New York or rib-eye. --- IMPORTANT do not add on any salt until the steak is finished cooking, salt will draw out the juices, and make certain to leave the steak/s out at room temperature for 1-1/2 hours this will relax the meat fibers and make for a tender juicy steak -- posted by KITTENCAL

Freshly Shucked Oysters and Sauce Mignonette With a Twist!

A classic with a twist - I like to add a splash or three of Tabasco sauce to my shallot and red wine vinegar Mignonette sauce, for that extra zap! This is easy to make and is even better if you let the oysters marinate in the sauce for ten to fifteen minutes before serving them. I also like my oysters au natural with just a squeeze of lemon, but variety is the spice of life, and this makes an exciting change! The quantities listed below will be sufficient for between 12 large and 24 small oysters. -- posted by French Tart

Fresh Pesto and Tomato Salad

Sometimes simple and fresh is best! That is for sure the face with this recipe that I put together while creating recipes for my vegetarian food blog - http://weekendcarnivore.com . For the pesto, I used Kittencal's recipe #144195 which really is great stuff! This is enough for one but can be very easily multiplied. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Baked Shrimp/New Orleans Remoulade Sauce/French Potato Salad

The secret to this dish is the bread crumbs -- browning them first ensures they form a crispy crust.08/20/2009 edition of Cuisine at home eRECIPES. Purchase shrimp already peeled and deveined to save time or do the work yourself to save money. I combined 3 recipes so as to have a nice romantic meal for 2. Serve with remoulade and French Potato Salad and nice bottle of wine - outside if it is summer and if not in front of the fireplace! :) This is NOT diet friendly -- however, it is only once a year! ;) -- posted by Manami
