I really dig Manwich, but the canned stuff gives me the tummy ache sometimes. When I found this clone recipe, I decided to try it to see if it gave me the tummy ache too. NOPE!! I was pleased! It may take a little more effort than opening a can, but for me, it's worth it. Also, you know this stuff is fresh and you never know how long that other stuff has been in a can. -- posted by Redneck Epicurean

I love the Meximelts at Taco Bell. However, I don't eat there a lot because sometimes, it gives me a tummy ache. But when I do, there are only two things I order-EVER! Chili-cheese burritos and Meximelts. One of my gal-pals worked there and told me what was in one. I couldn't figure it out because I was too busy inhaling it.
Tropical Key Lime White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies

Enjoy a sweet and sultry variation on the standard (yet always fantastic) white chocolate chip/macadamia nut cookie. People will go nuts for these! White chocolate chips aren’t really available here in the United Kingdom so I chopped up some good quality Cadbury’s white chocolate instead. Back at home in the States it was always so easy to find a bag of white chocolate chips in pretty much any grocery store, but not here! And if you can’t find a key lime, use a regular lime. No big deal. Enjoy! -- posted by Shannon W.

Einstein Bros Bagels Ultimate Toasted Cheese Sandwich

Calling all cheese fanatics! Do you love cheese? I think I may have the sandwich for you. My local Einstein Brothers used to have this on their menu - if I recall correctly, it was around the year 2001. Back then, this sandwich cost about $6 or so, so I figured out how to make these for myself at home. This glorious sandwich has since been pulled from the menu, probably because the fat content is enough to induce an instant heart attack! Ha ha, just kidding of course. Anyway, I love this sandwich (in moderation) and it's very easy to make using a sandwich maker, grill or skillet. Bon appetit! -- posted by Shannon W.

Healthier Than Kraft Macaroni & Cheese

The cheese sauce should be made a day before, but other than that, this is a quick & easy recipe that tastes a lot like Kraft Macaroni. I like it because it can be made with no food coloring or preservatives, and I can add other cheeses for a different flavor. Since I can't eat the "real stuff," this makes a good substitute. -- posted by Mims & Squims

The Garbage Plate (Burger Version)

If you are from the Rochester area that phrase would make your mouth water. This is any drunk college kids best friend. It is a mixture of meat, carbs, and more carbs piled onto a foam container found in Nick Tahou's and "hots" food joints all over the Rochester area. For about 6 bucks (including tip) you get this plate plus a soda, not too shabby. They have a veggie version, fish, and my favorite--the white hot version. When I left the Rochester to go to school the first thing I would do when I came home was got to a "hots" and order a garbage plate. Also dont expect to finish this unless you are drunk. For more info on this delicious dish go to wikipedia.org and search garbage plate. (I put the direct link on here before but it messed up the rest of the recipe for some reason, so youre gonna have to do it the hard way lol) Also times are approx. if you make your own sauce or not. Also to speed things up I use Recipe #226112 for the potatoes. This recipe is scaled to one, but it can really feed at least four people.... but whats the fun in sharing a garbage plate?? -- posted by Anme

Alabama White BBQ Sauce #2

This traditional Alabama Barbecue Sauce uses mayonnaise as its base rather than tomato sauce, vinegar, or any of the other traditional barbecue sauce bases. Like many barbecue sauces you want to apply this only at the very end of your grilling or smoking. It will breakdown and separate if it is heated too long. Use this sauce on chicken and turkey. It is also good on pork. Alabama White Barbecue Sauce has a tangy flavor that is a great addition to grilled foods. -- posted by Barbarella Rachelle

Candlelight Inn Guacamole (A Work in Progress)

This is my holy grail of recipes. I have tried for 12 years to sneak this out of this hole in the wall restaurant a stones throw from Cowboy Stadium. I have paid 2 cooks to sneak it out...both of which got fired before the recipe made it to me, and have spent 10's of dollars getting waitresses, hostesses and anyone else affiliated with the place tipsy for information. Well finally one night when I was spending quality time with Bampa at a bar named Studer's I sang his favorite patsy cline song and who should walk up, correction... stumble up, run into the jukebox, and then throw her arms around me but the head waitress. I quickly turned the conversation to the guacamole and she stopped me and said.."Sarah! I know you been lookin' for that thing for a longtime, and I dunno the recipe but I see em' make it everday so I'll tell you the secret! The use avocados, oil, and vinegar....thats all. No magical ingredients like you've gotten into your head. Now where's your momma and your auntie, baby?"
AND IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW! So here is yesterday's batch, and I'm going to keep trying every Sunday until I get it right. Next week I'm trying Tarragon Vinegar. But Dereck loved this recipe too. -- posted by Grimm's Restaurant Tales

Wonderful with chicken enchiladas, "enchiritos," burritos, and just as a dip for a taco. The original recipe came from a banged up library book featuring crock-pot recipes. -- posted by Debber

Ben Franklin Five and Dime Store Loose Meat Sandwich

Back in the 1960's there were the old Ben Franklin Five and Dime Stores and most of them had a lunch counter with swiveling stools. They also had a might fine little sloppy joe type sandwich which they sold for 23 1/2 cents. One day I asked the girl behind the counter how she made the great little sandwiches and she told me, so I wrote it on one of the napkins. I found the old napkin last week as I was looking through some old files. The little hamburgers were really a treat and the place was usually packed with customers enjoying them. So here is that special recipe, just as the girl told me back in the 1960's. I adjusted the amounts down to a smaller size, but that is the only change I made. -- posted by Auburndale Ray

Caramel Macchiato Coffee Chez Kathy

"I like YOUR coffee best" insists DH. I developed this mixture as a copycat of Starbuck's Caramel Macchiato, but using my half-caffeinated, half-decaffeinated coffee mix (I use Chock Full O' Nuts decaf and ground Starbucks French Roast). I buy Swiss Miss No-Sugar-Added Cocoa in bulk when Costco puts it on sale at the end of the season. I squeeze the caramel topping for 5 counts for DH and 3 counts for me. When I can't find hazelnut flavored syrup, I use the vanilla flavor; we miss that flavor accent if I omit it. This recipe fills one 18-to-20-ounce travel mug. You can top with whipped cream if you wish to make a special presentation (that may be how we made it past our third date!). -- posted by KateL

Chikfila -Type Chicken Nuggets

These taste alot like Chik Fil A nuggets, but without the use of a pressure cooker. The peanut oil is essential....it helps with the flavor. When a friend of mine started working there, I asked if this is how they prepare their green beans and she shook her head yes, but said no with a smile. I have included both variations for this recipe; choose the one to your liking. Cook/simmer time is approximate. -- posted by CindiJ

Almost Like Cpk Greek Pizza

I REALLY like California Pizza Kitchen's Greek Pizza. It's light, refreshing and I found myself thinking about this pizza so much, I had to find a way to make it at home.
This recipe is a work-in-progress and would love to hear your suggestions. I'm basing this recipe off of some of the information found here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080930103528AA7XB96
I obviously made tweaks here and there. CPK doesn't use Hummus, but I personally thought that would be good and was pleasantly surprised that it worked! You can obviously use Bread/Pizza Dough, but I don't have that kind of time after work so I did use store bought Flatbread/Pitas and Hummas.
The Chicken can be marinated in the rub and/or cooked before hand. The Prep Time can also be reduced by chopping the veggies and making the Tzatziki sauce the night before.
Serving size is negotiable. 2 6" pita pizzas is a serving in our house, but if you serve this with a salad you could probably go one each.
Can be veggie just by omitting the chicken. -- posted by Tarteausucre

Primanti Bros. Style Sandwich

My tasty take on a Pittsburgh Original. I live just north of Pittsburgh, and not far form a Primanti's. We go there quite often, but when I want to save money or am really craving a sandwich, I just make one. Or course it's not as god as the original, but pretty darn close!
For the recipe I put corned beef as my meat, but you an use any meat you prefer. Primanti's offers up Pastrami, Ham, Cappicola, steak, fried egg, turkey, and much more on thier sandwiches. This recipe is for two sandwiches. -- posted by Kitchen Wytch

County Fair Kettle Korn

Don't you just love that kettle cooked popcorn available at county fairs? It's sweet; it's salty; it's deliciously crunchy. It's usually pretty expensive too!
Vegetarian Western Bacon Cheeseburger

I know, this sound weird. I've been a vegetarian for 5 years and there are some items I missed from my meat eating days. I was having a craving for a Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger one day and decided to vegetarianize it. This is super easy to make and tastes very much like the original. To save time and to make it taste more authentic, use onion rings from a fast food restaurant like Sonic. I prepared the burger while I send my boyfriend down the street to Sonic. Also, slightly burning the Lightlife Smart Bacon is what makes it taste like real bacon. -- posted by danakscully64

Copycat Cracker Barrel 40th Anniversary Double Fudge Cola Cake

Cracker Barrel brought back their famous double fudge cola cake for their 40th anniversary and I was able to give their version a try. It was quite different from most of the usual copycat recipes out there, so perhaps their current version has been somewhat adapted over time. There are no nuts in this version. I did base my version on one I originally found on copycat.com, and I think I have it just about right. Expect a very moist, rich, deep dark chocolate sheet cake with a very fudgey thick frosting. -- posted by HeatherFeather
