Cranberry Orange Sauce

It is so easy to make and can be used to make the cranberry jello mold recipe from the Indian Trail carton. -- posted by Sonomawhine

Carrots taste better with honey, so much so, that you won't even have to encourage the kids to "Eat your carrots, they're good for your eyes!" And, research shows that cooking carrots actually increases the antioxidant value in them. -- posted by Alan in SW Florida

The owner of the cafe named then Bom Dia, "good morning" in portuguese, because his customers love to order them with their morning coffee.
Rachel's Super Easy & Fast Home Fries

Time-consuming home fries on my watch? Never! I had leftover potato "meat" from making potato skins so I made home fries with them, from 8 small potatoes without skins so that probably equals about 4 regular potatoes and 6 small ones. If you plan ahead on making home fries for breakfast, then you can pre-bake potatoes for this. Please note that cooking time does not account for baking the potatoes! This assumes that you have leftover baked potatoes and are using them this way. Raw or boiled potatoes will not work. This makes 1 large serving, if you plan on making enough for your family pre-bake more potatoes. NOTE: The amounts shown aren't an exact science, more to give you an idea and show that home fries can be made quickly :) -- posted by the80srule

Gourmet Mac & Cheese W/ Lots of Variations

Tweak the spices to your liking. I like it also without the paprika, but garnished with a sprig of fresh rosemary.

Also try making it cheesier or adding or substituting cheeses. I've made an excellent one with brie. I've also used canned tuna instead of chicken for a quicker version.

I have also experimented with different seasonings and rubs for the chicken or tuna, including celery salt, cayenne, rosemary, cumin, etc.

Changing the pasta also greatly changes the flavor as well, in my opinion.

Can be made with dried spices but I recommend fresh!

To go above and beyond, you can also bake the finished casserole with a breadcrumb or other topping. -- posted by GoldsmithLissa

Vegetarian Western Bacon Cheeseburger

I know, this sound weird. I've been a vegetarian for 5 years and there are some items I missed from my meat eating days. I was having a craving for a Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger one day and decided to vegetarianize it. This is super easy to make and tastes very much like the original. To save time and to make it taste more authentic, use onion rings from a fast food restaurant like Sonic. I prepared the burger while I send my boyfriend down the street to Sonic. Also, slightly burning the Lightlife Smart Bacon is what makes it taste like real bacon. -- posted by danakscully64

Potato Salad Dressing

Sweet Braised Whole Scallions (Molly Stevens)

This would be a fabulous, easy side dish for Thanksgiving. "As the scallions braise, the sweet anise flavor of the tarragon mingles with their oniony juices, giving the whole dish a candy-like sweetness. If you can’t find fresh tarragon, or simply don’t care for its taste, substitute fresh parsley or omit the herb altogether.
Spice Cake With Bourbon-Pecan Frosting

Moist cake with sweet and buttery frosting...

Tweak the ingredients to your liking. Try it with variations in the spices, extracts, and liquor: such as cayenne, ginger, almond extract, spiced dark rum, cointreau, irish cream...

Also try glazing the pecans with carmelization, candying, or even a nice orange spice. For an easier variation, add some cayenne and brown sugar or some of the other spices mentioned earlier before toasting the pecans. Then sprinkle them atop after icing, to keep the flavors more independent of each other. -- posted by GoldsmithLissa

Super Thin Pizza Dough

I experimented with a great recipe for dough, #70165, I use both now because sometimes I want my pizza "super" thin and other times just thin. Special note, I learned that when dealing with yeast it is important to have everything at room temperature, or slightly warm. This includes all ingredients, utensils, and bowls. I also use a great pizza sauce recipe, #114392. (It calls for tomato paste but I sometimes use just all tomato sauce. I like my pizza saucy!) -- posted by Terri Crooks

A unique way to use up turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Add a couple of fresh ingredients and this goes together in no time. Now, if like many, who have steamed green beans for Thanksgiving, try reinventing them by a quick saute with shallots, mushrooms, and a little balsamic vinegar. Just 4-5 minutes and you have a great way to use up those beans and it makes a great side dish with this.
Cajun Shrimp and Sausage Gravy over Biscuits

A few years back I was visiting friends in LA, and after a long day of fishing, a wonderful dinner with fresh fish of course, the next day we all woke up famished. Well ... biscuits with sausage gravy was the request, but I wanted to do something a little cajun. Our last vacation day, so it was clean out the fridge, but still trying to make something that resembled biscuits with sausage gravy. After a quick run to a local quick stop to get some cream and biscuits we were set. Well this is the creation, and it is really good. The only thing I have changed since I returned is that I love to add some scallions right at the end for a fresh flavor, but otherwise, pretty much the same. Make this for a breakfast/brunch for family this holiday season. And if you don't want to use andouille, use a spicy or mild sausage along with the cajun spices. And if you bake, make your own biscuits. I'm just not much of a baker, so I take a short cut and use a canned biscuit. We served this with some scrambled eggs and Bloody Mary's (it was the last day of vacation). But skip the eggs, and you won't miss them - this is a very satisfying dish. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Pecan Pie Brownies -- Version II

Here's how to please chocolate lovers and pecan pie lovers with one scrumptious bar. These are the creation of Camilla V. Saulsbury and appeared in her book: Brownie Mix Bliss. These bars have a bottom of chewy chocolate brownie topped with the familiar brown sugar pecan goodness of pecan pie. The author prefers a cakey brownie to contrast with the pecan filling which is why she calls for the three eggs in the brownie batter. But if you want a fudgy brownie, reduce the eggs to 2.
Grandma Linda's Thanksgiving Dressing

My mother has made this dressing for our family since I was a little girl. It is the only Thanksgiving dressing my family will eat. I would weigh 500 pounds if I made this dressing as often as I craved it! Although I know most people prefer holiday recipes that have been passed down in their own families, I hope you will enjoy this Thanksgiving dressing recipe that the McWell's have enjoyed for many, many years! My mother used Jiffy corn bread mix in the old days, then later switched to Marie Calender's corn bread mix. In this recipe, I am using the "sweet corn muffins" recipe on a box of Albers Yellow Corn Meal. Because I am using Albers brand corn meal, all ingredients up to "12 Tbs butter" are for this particular brand cornmeal. If using any other cornbread mix, follow directions on the box, then add ingredients beginning with "1 Lb bacon." This recipe is for Thanksgiving so it makes quite a large amount.
Moist Pumpkin Spice Bread

This may be the most delicious pumpkin bread recipe I've ever baked. I came up with this for my brother's 18th birthday and it has been devoured in just two days. I believe the applesauce in the recipe is what makes it so ooey-gooey moist. It's also low in fat as the applesauce replaces the oil that would normally be used. The recipe makes two loaves, one of which can be frozen or given to a friend. -- posted by EntirelyEmily

Fabulous Fajitas

This recipe is based on wonderful fajitas served at a small authentic Tex-Mex restaurant near where I used to live. I have used this with both chicken and steak, flank steak or skirt steak, and it works great. I also mix a batch of the dry spices together and use a tablespoon or so when I make fajitas. The red onions, while not traditional, add a nice color to the fajitaas, but sweet yellow onions are more traditional. Note that the preparation time listed includes time to marinate. -- posted by UrbanDesiMommy

Sarasota's Creamy Maple Brandy Salad Dressing

This is a wonderful easy dressing. Serve over some greens (romaine, spinach or arugula) with fall fruits, apples, pears, cranberries, nuts, caramelized onions, even blackberries or raspberries are great with this and crumble some blue cheese, gorgorzola, goat cheese, grated fontina or swiss - the combinations are endless. It is just a great dressing. My favorite salad happens to be; candied walnuts, romaine, blackberries, roasted pears, and caramelized onions. It doesn't get much better.
A girlfriend of mine made this for a dinner party years ago and I liked it so much I made it for my own family. It has been requested at every holiday dinner since. I don't like carrots, but the squash really steals the show, so no worries on a "carroty" taste (it alwasys falls just a little so I recommend saving a little topping to fill the little dip :-) -- posted by JojoBean #2
