Grandma's Banana Cream Pie

My grandmother was a wonderful cook, made great pies, and this was my favorite. She always used a homemade pie crust and served it with a dollop of Cool Whip or whipped cream on top. She didn't give me any idea how many bananas to use...so I guessed. She would also use the same custard, making a half batch, for the filling in cream puffs. -- posted by Karen67

Peanut Butter-Chocolate Banana Cream Pie

My family loves this recipe. I found it in a Kraft food & family book. I will give the original recipe here. I have made a few changes for our family such as I like Reeses peanut butter and I use Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips if I don't have the bakers chocolate. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we do.
Shortcut: You can substitute a prepared Nilla Pie Crust for the Nilla wafers and butter. Cooking time is actually refrigeration time. -- posted by Chef #337446

Banana Sour Cream Pie

Pineapple Cloud Pie

A co-worker brought this in for myself and my wife to try. I was apprehensive at first (I don't usually like pies) but was completely won over on my first bite! I came home from work and started searching RZ for the recipe. To my surprise, no one had sent it in. I ended up finding similar ones on the site, but none that used the Rice Krispies as the crust. Personally, I think this made the pie better (and was why I loved it). I finally found the recipe on RiceKrispies.com and knew I had to submit it first thing! I have left the directions alone but substituted the brand names of the products my co-workers used (since I KNOW how AMAZING this is). I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
Breezy Banana Caramel Pie

From Clean Home Journal
"Forget that Tennessee version of making caramel pie by throwing the entire can of condensed milk into boiling water (that's dangerous!). Here Chef James Brockman gives a simpler way to get the same great taste without the danger! Start with a prepared baked pie crust, and you're more than halfway there.
If you thought your days of coconut cream pie were over once you started that diet, then you haven't tried this recipe. It's more or a macaroon-custard-souffle than a "cream" pie, but it is delicious nonetheless. The best part?
This is adapted from a recipe that my husband's family has used for years. I changed it to individual servings so I could take it to a potluck. Everyone loved it. Other fruits can be added or substituted, like pineapple, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, oranges, cherries, peaches, etc. It's fun to use red, white and blue fruits for the Fourth of July. -- posted by mrsheathbar

Banana Cream Pie With Caramel Drizzles and Chocolate Sauce

This is the most requested dessert from Emiril's restraunt. This is a time consuming recipe, but it truly is a show stopper that will be met with raves. Don't skimp and not use a real vanilla bean, your pie will not be nearly as good. Make sure the bananas are ripe, yet firm and cover them completely with the pastry cream to prevent discoloration. It is also important to make sure the pastry cream is stiff in order to cut nice slices. -- posted by cookiedog

Original Banoffi/Banoffee Pie

I gather there is a bit of controversy in England over Banoffi/Banoffee pie ... the controversy swirling around where it came from, etc. Apparently most of the credit is claimed by Nigel Mackenzie of the Hungry Monk in Sussex; however, on Ian Dowding's web site, there is a slightly different story. Mr. Dowding was the head chef at the Hungry Monk, and concludes that they didn't invent it in the strict sense of "invention," but helped it evolve. (It's an interesting story; you can read it at http://www.iandowding.co.uk.) In any event, this is Mr. Dowding's recipe for what he believes is the best version of Banoffi pie. Note that the long prep time includes time to make the toffee/caramel by boiling the cans of sweetened condensed milk. -- posted by KLHquilts

Mango Custard Tart

As I continue to enter dessert recipes from our recent cruise, I am seeing a definite & freq trend for make-ahead combos using fruits w/a custard. This recipe from *Carnival Creations* by Cyrus Marfatia (Exec Chef of Carnival Cruise Lines) takes us to the far-eastern cuisines of India, Malaysia & Thailand. Altho the recipe suggests the French influence of Napoleon Brandy, my DH would look upon that as a "sinful waste" & I will use a more std cooking brandy.
Light Mango Tart

A light, moist tart that really compliments the flavor of ripe mangoes. This is a very easy recipe, very quick to get together and with no uncommon ingredients. I make this for simple family weekday dinners and weekend lunches with whatever fruit is in season - I've tried this recipe with peeled peaches and with nectarines as well and I imagine that strawberries would be great, too! I got this recipe from a friend who says she got it from a magazine. To the ingredients listed, I also like to add a tablespoon or two of coarsely chopped or processed almonds to give the tart a bit of a crunch. -- posted by ChefEmma
