Croatian Squid With Rice

Also known as "Crna Riz" or "black rice", this recipe is traditionally a risotto made with squid ink, and wine. This alcohol free version is much easier to prepare, and is a great way to introduce kids to squid. -- posted by Chef #1228626

Crust-Less Quiche

This is a fabulous basic Quiche dish that doesn't require a crust (just pie shaped cookware), but a crust can certainly be used if you'd like! The ingredients can also be altered if you'd like. This one uses asparagus & tomato, but it's also great with sausage, crab, and bacon!
Robin's Perfect Pizza Sauce!

This recipe (good for saucing up two large pizzas, with a little left over for dipping the crusts in :) was created by my lovely sister-in-law, Robin! I had been on a search for my own favorite recipe because I could never duplicate its amazing taste since she has always just measured it by eye. But when she pinned down the exact measurements for me, my search for the perfect pizza sauce was over! It's not too sweet, not too spicy, not too bland, not too overpowering! It goes well with meat toppings as well as sweet additions like pineapple, and also serves as a fantastic dipping sauce for garlic bread or breadsticks!! -- posted by JessicaBella

Carrot Cake With Buttermilk Glaze

This is Grandma Great's recipe. What makes this cake different from other's posted here is additional coconut and walnuts in the glaze and the technique of broiling the cake with the glaze. The amounts are a little different too. This is by far our favorite carrot cake. If you don't want a cream cheese frosting, this glaze is a perfect compliment to a moist but very dense cake. Do not Beat the cake mix, stir by hand - very important! -- posted by Vseward (Chef~V)

Sticky Grilled Drumsticks With Spicy/Sweet Plum Sauce

Food & Wine Magazine, August 2008 edition. From Pairing of the Day: August 2008, Great Chicken Recipes: Wings, Breasts, Drumsticks and Thighs. Grace Parisi prepares a wonderfully sticky and nicely sweet glaze of fresh plums and red pepper jelly to brush over drumsticks while grilling. Hot red pepper jelly makes for a spicier glaze, sweet pepper jelly creates a milder one. We opted for the milder one because we made it for the home but we made a batch of the spicier glaze for us and it was wonderful! This is a fantastic and tasty recipe for the grill and the summer.Suggested wine: Juicy Primitivo: 2006 . Serve with the drumsticks, corn on the cob with any of the outrageous butter recipes on zaar, a yummy mixed-greens salad with garbanzo beans, bacon, sesame seeds and a champagne vinaigrette, and then for dessert something chocolate and DECADENT! ;) -- posted by Manami

Real Calzones

These are simply the best ever!! If you havent tried them now is the time. There are so many variations to what you can add to this recipe. My husband likes spinach and feta, the kids like sausage and pepperoni. Even my kids rave over these and ask for them almost weekly !!!

I found this online from Jenny. Thanks Jenny !!!!! After the dough is mixed and ready to rise I add some garlic and basil and oregano to the oil and roll the dough around in it, then cover and let rise in a warm area for the afternoon.

This does not use sauce in the recipe. It is an original calzone. We like to use sauce for dipping or salsa sometimes. -- posted by Chef #1261052

Carrot Salsa/Salad/Side Dish

I created this to complement Spicy BBQ Rubbed Pork Chops (the rub recipe was from Rachel Ray). It pairs nicely with any barbequed meat dish. It's kind of a spin on "Copper Pennies"...one of my favorite cold summer salads...but it's less sweet and a bit more versatile. Serve it as a salsa to top meats or as a cold summer salad...It's even good when heated and served as a side dish. -- posted by CookETC

Cheesy Cabbage Heads

My dad made these when I was a kid and now it is a staple at every family barbecue. My DH has turned it into his 'pet recipe' and I must say, it is DElicious! The times are approximate because we always cook it on the grill although it can be done in the oven and they vary depending on the size of cabbage you use. Also you may not need all of the butter and probably only half of the cheese, but we always make at least two heads. -- posted by 2SpiceItUp

Frozen Baby Meal 5 of 6 (Chicken Stew)

This is one of six frozen baby meals I used to make for my son. A friend gave me the combination and with minimal preparation you save yourself time and money. All six are really pretty good and I've made them for myself in a pinch. I would either try to use leftover meat from other dishes I'd prepared or intentionally make extra to use for these meals. My son used to have a three-compartment baby tray with lid and I'd put one or two frozen cubes in the first slot, a little baby vegetable in the second slot and a little baby fruit in the last slot and he was set for lunch. I'd have his tray ready the night before or in the morning and by lunch the frozen cube(s) had almost thawed and just needed a little warming in the microwave. The serving sizes are difficult to determine since it is dependent on the age of the child. -- posted by Queen Puff

Easy Tomato, Red Onion, and Kalamata Olive Summer Salad

This refreshingly-light summer salad is my absolute favorite way to enjoy vine-ripened summer tomatoes. It's a quick and easy tummy-satisfying dish on a warm midday when the last thing I want to do is turn on the stove. The juicy tomatoes, sweet onions and rich-tasting Kalamatas are dressed simply with olive oil, red wine vinegar, fresh herbs, salt and pepper. If desired, add whatever other garden veggies you enjoy - our family loves cucumbers; or add a slice of feta and some sliced green peppers and you've got a Greek “village” salad! Don't forget the crusty Italian bread to mop up the tomato and vinaigrette juices. -- posted by Feast Your Eyes!

V's Marinara-Sauce Start to Finish

The sautéd garlic and onion added to the blender for a quick puree adds a much more agressive taste in this sauce ;) Even though buying a jar of marinara is cheaper, you can't compare the taste of homemade sauce! After receiving a bushel full of garden tomatos, I got adventurous and made this Homemade Sauce. It's so easy a beginner cook would impress guests! After my family raved about this, I may never buy jar sauce again. This sauce can be made and used as a spaghetti or marinara.... I used it as part of my Recipe #185861 -- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled and frozen! I used dried herbs, you can substitute fresh - just be sure to triple the amount ;) -- posted by Vseward (Chef~V)

Haloumi, Sausage and Pesto Skewers

A simple budget-conscious and yummy everyday recipe with no pretensions to sophistication, which I've adapted from an online recipe from the Australian magazine 'New Idea'. The recipe uses beef sausages, but obviously you could use your favourite sausages. You could also vary the capsicums (or peppers) and use more than one coloured pepper; and you could add a slice of onion onto the skewer. My personal preference is red peppers, but just go with your preference! Love the pesto and haloumi in this recipe! :) -- posted by bluemoon downunder

Chocolate Zucchini Cake

This recipe came from my high school friend's mother. It is so moist and delicious! My husband didn't want to have at first because of the zucchini, but he couldn't even tell it was in there!
For a more healthy route, my sister-in-law does this: omit the butter, ¼ cup vegetable oil, and 3-3½ cups zucchini.
Lastly, instead of buttermilk, you may use ½ cup milk+ ½ Tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice- let mixture stand at least 5 minutes. -- posted by gnet

My Kids Favourite Pasta Meal.

Despite the fact that my two young children go through picky phases, they have decided that they both LOVE this pasta. DS especially can't get enough of the stuff & I am very happy as it's a healthy, filling meal suitable for all the family. I use the wholewheat tiny pasta shells (sold as conchigliette) but you can use any small pasta really. We like to serve this with a green salad & crusty bread!
Easy Glazed Carrots and Raisins

I usually make my glazed carrots with fresh baby carrots, butter, and honey. However, tonight I needed a quick side to go with my Easy One Pot Lentils and Rice. I did not have any fresh carrots or honey on hand (I need to get to the grocery store!) but I had a can or organic sliced carrots and some brown sugar. I decided to add raisins, because my 18 month old dd LOVES them, but cannot eat them unless they are chopped or cooked. (due to the fact that they are a major choking hazard) This is what I came up with. I served the lentils and rice as a rice ring, and served it with the carrots and raisins in the middle. (lifted out of the pan with a slotted spoon) My family really enjoyed it, and the kids appreciated the presentation! Whatever works to get them to eat healthy! ;o) -- posted by Chef #1082457

These taters are quick and easy and very yummy. The hardest part of the recipe is getting DH to peel the potatoes! -- posted by Secret Agent

Quinoa Fritters

I created this recipe when I was on a highly restricted diet for 5 months, but I loved it so much that I adapted it a little and it's now a staple for us. It goes especially well with soup. They are also really good dipped in pretty much any kind of mustard, and my little one year old boy loves them. Feel free to experiment with any kind of rice you have on hand for this. I've used 11 different types of rice for it, and each time it was wonderful. It's a simple side dish, and sure to please anyone that comes through my door for a snack or a meal. -- posted by Canning_Queen

Date and Chickpea Cous Cous

This was a throw together I made one night that turned out brilliantly. You can adjust the seasonings to your taste... just remember the stock and cous cous should be equal quantities. Great blend of sweet, sour and spicy. It's quick, filling, nutritious and will keep for a few days in the fridge - nice cold as well. To make vegan just omit butter. -- posted by Malaliu

Crispy Potato Cakes

Love to make these with leftover mashed potatoes. I will make a batch of these golden brown cakes and serve with sour cream and applesauce for nice snack on the weekends. Pure comfort food here. Recently when my son had his wisdom teeth out, and was so hungry, I whipped these up, which gave the texture he needed and the taste was perfect and satisfying. Posting for Trevor. Scored major mommy points for this one ;) -- posted by Vseward (Chef~V)

Nif's 30 Minute Tuna Casserole

A follow-up to Recipe #349613, this recipe is healthier and has more fresh ingredients. You could realistically have this meal on the table in a half hour as you are doing a lot of the prep while waiting for the pasta. This counts as 7 WW points. Enjoy! -- posted by Nif
