Spice Mix!

Try this as a dry rub or add it to water for a brine.
Sprinkle a touch into soup or a dressing. Possibilities are endless........
This is a very workable recipe. Just use the sugar and salt as is and add any dry ground ingredients you prefer equalling 3/4's cup of herbs and spices. Make this for gifts packed in dark glass with a description on a label. I know I have mine in cute little sacks, But that was to make my shipping charges lower. -- posted by ~Rita~

Canning Pumpkin

Lately I have read several articles that say pumpkin should not be canned, My husband and I have canned pumpkin this way since 1976 and we can not recall of having ever lost a jar due to spoilage, even after two years. I am not recommending that anybody go against the USDA, but again this has woked for us. -- posted by Madeline R.

Crawfish Spring Rolls With Three - Chili Dipping Sauce

An appetizing first course from the flavor center of the universe, Louisiana. Courtesy of Chef Mike Fennelly of Mike's on the Avenue, featured in The Louisiana New Garde television series. Eat these gems plain or wrapped inside a lettuce leaf with a little pasta and mint leaves. Either way, dip them in the sauce and savor. If you cannot find crawfish meat, please feel free to substitute shrimp. The nutritional numbers are slightly skewed as you won't be using the entire package of wrappers. Wrap the remaining rounds tightly and refrigerate. -- posted by Molly53

Green Herb Seasoned Salt

I like to use this when I reach for salt, So I lower my intake of salt and kick up the flavor of what I cook.
I used home grown herbs that I dried whole. Leaves that are loosely packed into measuring cups. So if using store bought do take note the amounts of the whole herbs would be a lot less. I guesstimate my 2/3's. Great to season any game, roast beef or roast poultry. Season roast veggies, stuffing, rice or potatoes. How about a touch on your eggs.
I do like heat but I kept it down in this using only peppercorns. You can add chili powder to really make it hot! -- posted by ~Rita~

Nana King's Sweet Chili Sauce

Similar to a chili sauce my mom and grandma used to make; we always had it chilled over cream cheese to spread on crakcers. This recipe was adapted from one by a bridge pal, Robert King. He was gracious enough to share it from his southern grandmother's recipe file. The traditional way to enjoy this sauce down south is spooned over black-eyed peas. If you are a tomato gardener and find yourself with an overabundance; substitute 4 quarts of peeled and chopped fresh tomatoes for the canned. -- posted by Hungry Hogareno

so good! and so easy! my boyfriend and I seriously make this 2 days in a row so that we have a big pot of it. You can make it into a sandwich, or eat it with tortilla chips for a party, or you can put it over rice and enjoy it that way!
Senora Lopez's Sangria

I got this recipe from my Spanish teacher, who was from Bogota, in the early 1970s. Because of the long chilling time, the fruit gets kind of funny-looking, but it's wonderful to eat when the sangria is gone! I'm guessing at the number of servings. Prep time does not include chilling time. -- posted by Chocolatl

Caramel Apple Pie Filling (Oamc)

This is a recipe that my husband came up with when we had a lot of apples after apple picking several years ago. It has become a family favorite and one that we look forward to making after what has become a fun annual family outing at a beautiful orchard. We like using a combination of at least two or three varieties of apples for flavor and texture. Our favorite combination is Macintosh, Jonagold, and Granny Smith. I double or triple this recipe to can or freeze to use later in pies, over ice cream, on my oatmeal, or straight up, but it is so good it doesn't last long. -- posted by UrbanDesiMommy

Injera (Ethiopian Flatbread)

This is a sour, spongy bread from Ethiopia, served at nearly every meal. In the homeland this bread is made as a sourdough. This recipe is a modification for America kitchens by Marcus Samuelsson. Lay a piece of it on the hugest plate you have. In the center of it put a dipper of your finest, zestiest, most mouthwatering stew. Now, eat the stew tearing off pieces of the bread from the sides & scooping up the stew. Need another piece of injera?! Sure! It could take 2 or 3 pieces to scoop up all that wonderful stew. -- posted by lwatkins

Habanero Mango Hot Sauce

I blend fresh organic carrots, mango, onions, garlic, and a hint of lime juice with the Habanero. The result is a pepper sauce that harmonizes heat and flavor without the overpowering pungency found in traditional vinegar-based hot sauces. Creating a spicy but not overpowering sauce that allows you to spice your food without drowning out the original flavor.
The capsaicin is not only hot on the tongue, it is brutal on the eyes or in cuts on your fingers. When preparing peppers you can wear rubber gloves to protect your hands and keep your hands clean. capsaicin has a way of staying on your hands even after washing. Safety glasses will help you avoid splashes or touching your eyes while cutting and cleaning peppers.
The steam from boiling vinegar is very strong. Avoid breathing it.
Cooking your hot sauce will help blend the flavors together, break down pieces of solid ingredients and pasteurize the sauce. It is an important step which should only be skipped if the sauce will be used up completely within 1 week. This is adapted from Freedom's Raw Recipes (http://bit.ly/1IeyHo) and modified so that it requires no special equipment. All you will need to make this recipe is a knife and a blender. -- posted by Winkyboy

Delicious Broccoli & Cheese Crunchy Bake!!!

This is an uunbelievably simple side dish recipe which was taught to me by an American friend of mine who moved over here. We decided to celebrate Thanksgiving with her to help her feel less homesick and she made this for us. I thought it was delicious, demanded the recipe which she gave me there and then and now it is a firm family favourite.

Give it a chance, it sounds bizarre and yes, it is FULL of calories but it is perfect for a family dinner, or holiday celebration like Christmas or Thanksgiving or even Easter.

I've tried this with normal cheese but it just doesn't have that same fix for me!

This is my first recipe listing so here goes nothing ha ha!!! Please rate!!! I'd love any advice on changing or improving this! -- posted by Surflou

Zanzibari Chutney (Part of Zanzibari Pulao/Pilaf)

Growing up in Dubai there was a tiny restaurant my father would occasionally take us to. They were famous for & only served Zanzibari Pulao along with a cold glass of the drink Tang. After moving out of Dubai the only option I had to still eat the pulao was to come up with something at home. After many trials my mom came up with this chutney recipe. This chutney is part of the Zanzibari Pulao that I have posted. Pakistani Bhagaare Chawal (Stir Fried Rice) or Zanzabari Pulao recipe #282570
Soon I'll post Zanzibari Fried Fish's recipe as well.
Already warning people with low tolerance to spices. This chutney is spicy & sour . It can be stored in an air tight jar for 2 weeks in the fridge. -- posted by Bint e Naeem

Pakistani Style Bhindi Ka Salan (Okra/Ladyfinger Curry)

Back in the days when I was a child every time my mother made this dish it was considered a treat among me & my siblings. Besides potatoes & peas, okra/ladyfinger is another all time favorite vegetable among the Pakistani population. It is usually served with roti/chapatti & yogurt or sometimes with Masoor Dal (lentil) here is the recipe of a basic okra curry that was passed down from my grandmother to my mom & down to me. It’s the tomatoes that give it a different taste compared to the other recipes posted so far.

Note if you want to make "Bhindi Gosht" (Okra curry with mutton) after frying the onions add mutton, let it cook on medium low heat for 20 minutes, then follow the rest of the recipe. You can also add 1/2 cup water to make it a little saucy. -- posted by Bint e Naeem

i made this from leftover roast chicken and leftover leek and potatoe soup (vegan), so my measurements are an estimate really, but use your initiative if it needs more water add more etc etc. intermediate cooks will get the idea, also you can add a dash of wine or lemon juice would be nice in this.
