New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. The New York Times did a big article on the perfect chocolate chip cookie, interviewing and sampling several famous chocolate chip cookies at various bakeries. Several tests were done; larger cookies (such as six-inch affairs) scored better, as did letting the dough age for 24 or even 36 hours (up to 72 hours). A small sprinkle of sea salt was also recommended. I usually make 3 huge cookies and divide the rest of the dough in half, wrapping it in saran wrap. Also, I've cheated a bit at this recipe and used plain flour instead of the two types of flour, as well as neglected sifting the flour. I don't have a paddle attachment on my mixer. I also usually use chocolate chips. You still achieve the very special taste, but the presentation is nicer when you follow the recipe exactly. From New York Times, July 9, 2008. -- posted by Alexis L Sutter

Really Chocolate Chocolate Cake With Chocolate Fudge Frosting

Recipe from Hershey's Kitchen. This cake is a family favorite and one of the best i have come by. Its a little different with the cup of boiling water but the ending result is phenomenal. Not to mention the frosting, not only does it go perfect with the cake; it is to die for. I make it every time i need to ice any of my desserts with chocolate. Hope you love it as much as i do. -- posted by Ernie Bernie

Chilli Choccy Eggs

I got the idea to add the chilli to the eggs from the Lindt chocolate block. Chocolate eggs filled with a creamy chocolate centre with a hint of chilli. This is a great flavour combination, the chilli is subtle but something quite different. I have also added Amarula Cream, Bailey's and Frangelico on other occasions, the possibilities are endless.
This can make as many eggs as you choose, it depends on the size of the moulds. -- posted by BeeJaye

Stef's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love chocolate chip cookies, and have been playing around for years to find what I consider to be the 'perfect recipe.' This is a combination of recipes from a few different sources, I don't consider it original, more stealing the tips I like from different places (alton brown, the ny times, and paula deen, among others). I particularly like it because the butter is melted - it saves your arm the usual pain of mixing softened butter. These make cookies I like - slightly salty, think, chewy, and butterscotch-y.

If anyone finds changes that work well, please let me know, this recipe is always a work in progress to me.

Enjoy!! -- posted by StephanieBamBam

Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

I have tricked several wheat eaters with this recipe. Very tasty and not gritty like typical gluten free recipes. Our normal grocery store carries soy flour and shouldn't be too hard to find. Definitely worth using! Adds protein and fiber and I think it helps with texture. You could probably get away with omitting the teaspoon of guar gum, but I have it on hand and use it.
I've used both milk, lactaid and soy milk for this recipe without any problems. I have also used pure pumpkin and pumpkin pie mix (this will make the batter more watery, so bake a little longer). You don't have to use the chocolate chips, they'll still be quite tasty! -- posted by Zizek

Chocolate & Walnut Crêpes/Palacinke (Lidia Bastianich)

These crêpes are often served with only a sprinkle of sugar or a bit of home-preserved fruits. Sometimes palacinke were more elaborate: filled with ricotta and baked or layered like a cake with different fillings in between. But the most luxurious—and Lidia's favourite—are palacinke spread with melted chocolate. You can use this recipe with any spread you like.

My hubby loves Chocolate Covered Cherries. I bought a box yesterday and when I got up this morning there was a single one left in the box. I just know that in his self sacrificing way he was just protecting me from the evil sugar (Yeah, right! lol). Anyway, I had coffee making and when it was done I just popped that morsel into my coffee cup without really thinking about it.
Boston Cream Pie

An ancient Good Housekeeping recipe that I religiously make every New Years day. If you've never made a scratch cake, you don't know what you're missing. Using cake flour is a must. See Lennie's recipe #87689. Be sure to properly measure your flour by lightly spooning into a measure cup until overflowing then using the backside of a knife to level off. Too little flour will produce a callapsed cake and too much will have wet spots with dense layers. Cake layers freezeable.

Prep time also includes assembly time. -- posted by gailanng

I saw someone else with somewhat of a similar recipe and I tweaked everything. It's much healthier than the recipe I looked at originally. Make sure to take out the cookies immediately when they are ready. If they stay in the oven, they will quickly become too hard. -- posted by Linh #2

Double Chocolate Brownie

I found this brownie recipe on the back of a container of cocoa. After trying it, I cut it out and taped it into my cookbook. Unfortunately I don't know the brand of cocoa where this recipe came from.

Quick and easy, this brownie recipe has single-handedly stopped me from buying box mixes.

I've never done the chipotle chili powder with the nuts, but the cinnamon adds a delicious element either way. -- posted by CorianneW

Copycat Cracker Barrel 40th Anniversary Double Fudge Cola Cake

Cracker Barrel brought back their famous double fudge cola cake for their 40th anniversary and I was able to give their version a try. It was quite different from most of the usual copycat recipes out there, so perhaps their current version has been somewhat adapted over time. There are no nuts in this version. I did base my version on one I originally found on copycat.com, and I think I have it just about right. Expect a very moist, rich, deep dark chocolate sheet cake with a very fudgey thick frosting. -- posted by HeatherFeather

Chocolate Covered Oreo Balls

Had these on Christmas Eve and thought Santa came early! Talk about simple - and sinful! These were extremely easy (and a lot of fun) to make.

We used reduced fat ( ::gasp:: ) Oreos, and they were just as good. You could use low fat cream cheese as well. We also decided that covering the *entire* ball made them a bit too sweet (yes, I know - how can that be?!?). Next time, we will just dunk the bottoms in the chocolate.

DH and I can't wait to try out different combinations: Peanut butter Oreos, mint Oreos, flavored chips, adding food coloring to white chocolate (for the holidays, game day, school colors, etc) - the creative possibilities are endless! -- posted by Dea Doo

Chocolate Chip Waffles

I used my Belgian waffle machine for these, although you can use any type of waffle iron as these are not true Belgian style waffles. These were so good and did not last long at all. I don't remember how many this made - I think about 8 full round waffles. Next time I make them, I will update the amount with more accurate info on the servings. I just know I wished I had made a second batch ;) The Zaar computer requires that I enter a cook time, but the time will vary based on each individual machine - I guess at about 7 minutes per waffle, but please test one out on your machine first for more accurate timing. -- posted by HeatherFeather

Bisquick Chocolate Chip Cookies- Just 6 Ingredients!

Classic comfort food. I remember making these in home ec back in the day. God I hated junior high and would never want to relive that torture: but those cookies were good! That good to make me want to remember it. And we didn't keep Bisquick in my house so it was an especially great delight for me. Makes about 16-24 cookies depending on how big you make them. They may not taste as fine as pure from scratch cookies, but they still taste good and are a time-tested kid pleaser. Can sub vegetable oil or shortening for the butter but the butter tastes better. And to make these a tad fancier, I suggest using 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp almond extract. -- posted by the80srule
