Easy Caramel Apple Tart

Unless fruit cake is not to your liking, I haven't served this dish yet and not had gushing compliments for it. It is a cross between a christmas cake/christmas pudding, but is served as a slice. I make mine in a 20cm ceramic fluted flan dish. If using a metal flan dish, be careful you don't burn the bottom.
Apple Galette With Walnuts and Raisins and a Streusel Topping

What could possible be bad about apples, walnuts, raisins with a streusel topping. There are hundreds of such recipes but for some reason or other they all seemed to lack something. This recipe makes two deserts so you can freeze one for later use and there is never a question about their being homemade. While this recipe looks hard it is not. The trick to doing this easily and fast is to use time wisely. While the dough is cooling down, peel, core, and slice the apples. Prepare the balance of the apple mixture so that the mixture can be completed just before using. Make the struesel topping and have it ready to go once the apples are mounded on the dough in the tart pan. Note that some recipes for apple pies, tarts and galettes call for mixtures of apples. I have substitued, with good results, 2 or 3 Jonagold for an equivalent number of granny smiths. I also expect that Cortland, Macoun or Empire would also be good but I would still use the granny smiths in at least equal proportion. -- posted by doctorjerry

Fudge Apple Tart - Microwave Oven Version

This is a recipe I used to make many years ago but lost. I found it in an Annette Human cookbook - but in a microwave version.
It's a delicious toffee apple pie. Annette calls it "Babsie Bloemfontein's apple tart". She suggests serving it with whipped cream. Although I'm not too keen on the appearance of microwave oven cakes, this one works well because of the fudge sauce. -- posted by Sherrie-pie

Caramel Apple Dumplings

Yes, yet another apple dumpling recipe! Taste it, is really good and you will like it. My mother used to make these for dinner parties when I was young. Found this on Diana's Desserts, 2003 Diana Baker Woodall posted in February of that year. The sauce can be made up to 3 weeks ahead, chill in airtight container and the dumplings can be made up to 1 day ahead - chill sauce, dumpling and egg mixture separately in airtight container. Just bake chilled dumplings as directed. -- posted by Manami

Apple Tart

This is soo good and easy, it does not require a pastry puff. I even use a Pillsbury ready pie crust, if I am short on time.
Tarte Tatin -- Easy Version

Classic French apple tart. I make this every fall during apple season, usually end up with the recipe memorized as I'm churning out my 14th, or 15th, tarte by the end of the year. Use tart Granny Smiths for best results. Use store-bought puff pastry to make it super easy! I found this method by trial and error to bypass making caramel first.
(At the suggestion of my friends 2Bleu, a note about traditional tarte tatin: The traditional tarte tatin starts by making caramel in a cast-iron skillet first, then cooks the apples in the caramel on the stovetop, then has you make a crust like a pie crust, which gets placed on top of the apples, then the whole thing is moved into the oven. It's delicious, but a tedious method. So I played around in the kitchen until I discovered this method by a wonderful accident! Don't you love when that happens? ;-) ) -- posted by Susiecat too

As the cover feature of Bon Appetit's Best of the Year for 2005, this classic recipe was liked best for its taste, simplicity and rustic approach. The whole thing is cooked in a 12-inch skillet started on stove top and then finished in the oven. In Bon Appetit's words, "After everything else we tasted it was something that we could actually sink our teeth into." I second that emotion. -- posted by ninja

Rustic Apple Tart

This recipe hails from British Columbia, Canada. It is from the website if the B.C. Tree Fruits Limited company. "Who doesn't love baked apples and cinnamon? They are an irresistible combination especially when served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This rustic apple tart is simpler to make than a pie. You don't have to be neat and fussy with the crust, just simply fold it up over the apples however you please leaving the centre open. The chopped pecans toast while the tart is baking which gives them a buttery taste and help to make the tart look very rustic." http://www.bctree.com/recipes/archive/apple-rustic-tart.php -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Cranberry Apple Tart

It's easy to love apple pie. Turning out the perfect crust? Not so easy. Which is why this apple and dried cranberry tart does away with the hard part without sacrificing the joy of baking. This recipe uses purchased pizza dough to create a thin crust that is topped with tart apple slices. For a nice finish, dust the tart with powdered sugar, or a blend of powdered sugar and cinnamon. If you'd prefer a more traditional crust, a prepared pie crust also could be used. But pizza crust lends a nice chew that works well with the tender apple slices. Be sure to let the dough come to room temperature before rolling it. The dried cranberries can be soaked in water or juice for 15 minutes before using. This isn't necessary, but it makes them plump and juicy. Be sure to drain them well before placing them on the tarts. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Apple-Wine Tart

If I want something baked that isn't gluten-free, I hire my DMIL who makes the most adorable cakes and tarts. This tart's story is quite funny: My DFIL loved collecting wines, although he had no idea about which wine is storable and which not. He just loved making holidays at the Mosel and buy interesting looking Mosel-wines, generally white wines. Unluckily he mostly loved collecting the bottles, but not drinking the wine, so he left a whole cellar of wine bottles when he passed away. For about one year DMIL talked about somehow getting rid of those wines, making German "Weincreme" or giving them away as a present, because none of us liked that stuff. DH then pointed out that we couldn't give it away as a present as we didn't know whether the wine actually was still drinkable (if it ever had been). Finally DMIL decided to make this apple wine tart for a summer bbq we had. The afternoon she came over with the tart she was all red in the face, and uncovering the plate she giggled and said that evidently she had just catched the only bottle of *red* wine, and when she noticed her mistake it was too late. So instead of an all "white" tart we had this funny white and red one - which was a big hit! Every single female at the party asked for the recipe, and all agreed that it looks much more interesting with red wine than with white.
Prep time is a guess because I didn't make the tart myself; it doesn't include resting time overnight -- posted by Mia in Germany

Apple Tart Tatin

From the delectable crust to the luscious caramel/apple filling, this beautiful tart from Chef Anne Burrell is a taste delight! You will need a 10" nonstick, ovenproof pan. A couple of suggestions I got from FN: you may want to cut up a couple of extra apples to pack into the caramel since the apples cook down so much; OR, after baking and before unmolding, drain off excess liquid and use it to sweeten the mascarpone instead of sugar. Recipe does not reflect inactive prep time. I hope you enjoy this as much as we do! -- posted by ninja
