Roarin' - Swirlin' - Soarin' Vampire Lemonade With A Twist

This recipe is born today! I was deep in sleep seeing some scary dream, when all of a sudden my mom woke me up with what sounded like a "Charishma, get out of that bed" order! LOL. I woke up and logged on to chat with Sai(my sweetiepie), but since he wasn't here, I proceeded to make tea for my mom and dad. While I was making tea, I was feeling really hot(its summer at its peak here!) in my kitchen. I thought of Kool-aid rightaway. However, I'm running out of all the Kool-aid packets so many wonderful friends here on Zaar have sent me. To make Auntie Lennie's Absolutely perfect Kool-aid I need 3 packets of the same flavour. However, I had 2 of most and 1 of one or two and I was in a fix. Then, it just occurred to me why not try mixing two flavours and see what happens. Ofcourse, two flavours that share something in common was the idea. Just then, I saw I had 2 packets of Soarin' Strawberry Lemonade and one of Swirlin' Strawberry Starfruit. I thought why not prepare Auntie Lennie's Kool-aid this time with a twist! Then, this recipe was born:) So that's the story of this Kool-aid. The reason why I titled it as Vampire Lemonade is because of the blood red colour that you get when you mix everything together in this recipe. It's so much fun making this! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and all my dad's colleagues will at work this afternoon. Come to think of it, this will also look cute on Valentine's day(just change the name when you serve it or your Valentine might just have second thoughts!) Hahahaha! I can't wait for the reviews to pour in for this one!;)ENJOY! Happy Summers! -- posted by Charishma Ramchandani

EASY Jack 'O Lantern Cake

We have 3 family member birthdays in a row in mid October and I make this cake for one big celebration. I'm not sure where I first saw this, I know it wasn't in a cookbook. I'd like to think I'm creative, but I probably saw it in a magazine over 30yrs ago. It makes a very large amount of cake, so it's great for any fall party or Thanksgiving dessert. Use your imagination and creativity to make the face and stem and leaves. I have also used black tinted icing for the eyes, nose and mouth. I only have 1 bundt pan, so the time consuming part is using it to make 2 cakes. It's really a good looking center piece on a holiday or theme table. -- posted by peppermintkitty

Leftover Halloween Candy Cookies

Crispy and chewy! I came up with these out of desperation as we ended up with a lot fewer trick or treaters this year. I used Twix bars, m&ms and pecans. If using candy with peanuts or peanut butter you might want to use peanuts instead of pecans, but pretty much anything goes! -- posted by nmjunko

Spooktacular Halloween Graveyard Cake

This is a great cake, perfect for Halloween parties, that is a take-off of the stand-by graveyard pudding. I noticed pudding is less popular than cake, and of course, cake is more suited for parties, especially those with kids. You can use your choice of cake flavor, but pay attention to the cookie crumbs you use in that case so they are compatible flavors. You also probably wouldn't want to use chocolate icing with a pumpkin cake, but if you wanted a pumpkin frosting, that would be good, or else use vanilla. You can use whipped cream to make the ghosties, but be aware that if you do this, the cake needs to remain chilled, and the whipped cream does try to sag and run after awhile (so don't do that too far in advance). The marshmallow ghosties are more durable at room temp. Those are often sold near displays of halloween candy, not necessarily by the bags of marshmallows. -- posted by Sue L

Candy Sushi

From the RR archives. ;) Maybe for a Japanese dinner party when the kiddos may not eat sushi with you--this might help them participate for dessert? Or just a fun kids party--or even Halloween. ;) I haven't tried these yet, so I guessed on the times, but will update once I do.
Dulce De Leche Popcorn Balls

I found this recipe after Christmas while starting on collecting recipes for next year. It comes from the Jolly Time Popcorn folks. I wanted to try them the night I found it, but didn't have the butterscotch pudding. So, when I do get around to making them, I'll make any changes to the recipe that I think it needs. If you try it before me, please submit a review and let me know how they turned out. I'm anxious to try them! -- posted by Redneck Epicurean

Apple Smiles

Another one of my no-flame-required, kid-friendly recepies. I remember making these in my after school program in grade school and loving them. They are a great wholesome activity for kids parties...just make sure an adult slices the apples. My favorite Apples to use are Pink Lady because the tart flavor is a nice compliment to the Peanut Butter. For a healthier variation, use cubed Slightly Green Bananas instead of Marshmallows...ripe bananas may be mushy. If you are worried about Peanut Butter allergies, substitute Cashew Nut butter as it is far less common to be alergic to. -- posted by Chef Chessie

Guilt-Free Dirt & Worms Surprise

Dirt 'n Worms (or Worms 'n Dirt, as some call it) is a fun little dessert but mixing gloppy chocolate pudding and entire packages of Oreos with unnecessary amounts of gummy candy can rack up frightening nutritionals. The nutritional information is incorrect here, but this version from the Hungry Girl web site has only 163 calories, one gram of fat and three weight watchers points, and six grams of protein.

You can also whip up a single-serving version of this recipe using a Jell-O Sugar Free Pudding Snack, a few gummy pieces, and a small handful of crushed Oreo Thin Crisps. -- posted by ~Jen~

Monster Cookies

I see there are a lot of Monster cookie recipes on here, but there are slight variations of it. I prefer my mom's recipe. Yes I know it calls for a lot of ingredients and in large quantities, but what I like to do is make a large batch before Halloween--hence "Monster" cookies. I put the dough into containers and freeze. This helps me get a jump start on my holidays. I just give out the dough as gifts through the holidays.
Winter Squash Pie

Winter squash come in many sizes and shapes, but all have hard outer rinds that surround sweet, often orange flesh. Winter squash arrive late in the growing season and have a long storage life, so they've long been a staple in winter and spring when other vegetables are harder to come by. Pumpkin, acorn squash, Hubbard squash, buttercup and butternut squash are all examples of this wonderful vegetable. This recipe only uses one cup of squash, so it's a good way to recycle a little dab of leftover squash into something new and wonderful.
Pumpkin Tarts

you can use canned pumpkin if you like the traditional thick texture and sweetness of store-bought pumpkin pie. I like using fresh cooked pumpkin as it's not overly sweet and much lighter and fluffier that way, almost like a mousse. you can freeze cooked pumpkin for many months so you can still make this outside of autumn, just be sure to drain it well when you thaw it. can also be made into a single-crust pie, just increase the cooking time to about an hour. new way to play with this: make just the filling in custard cups or muffin tins and serve with ice cream and butterscotch! -- posted by spiritussancto

These are very moist and rise very high when baked, they are fairly sweet so you may wish to reduce the sugar by a few tablespoons. You may also bake in jumbo muffin tins to yield 10 and increasing the baking time.
The Perfect Low-Sugar Kool-Aid Salt Water Taffy

I've worked at it and worked at it and 5 batches later, I think I've got it. It's the perfect salt water taffy flavored with kool-aid. It takes alot of work to get it to the right consistency so don't give up! And if it seems to hard when it cools down, as long as it's still pliable, it will work. If it cracks into pieces, you cooked it too long. Even 5 degrees can ruin the batch so keep an eye on it. Try again, or tell people you were going for painted glass candy all along.
Also, most taffy recipes will tell you that you don't need to keep stirring after the mixture starts boiling. I ruined 3 batches before I found out it's safer just to keep stirring. Even a little bit of burnt taffy in the mix ruins the batch, and if you don't stir, it will burn to the bottom of the pan.
**SIDE NOTE**
I sited strawberry kool-aid in my recipe, but you can use any kind as long as it's unsweetened. -- posted by InBlackAndLace

Jamie's Spiced Sugar and Christmas Popcorn Recipe

This Jamie Oliver sugar mix really does smell like Christmas (although you are not limited to eating it only at Christmas!). The sugar recipe makes loads, (but is easily halved) and it keeps in an airtight container for absolutely ages and can be used on a variety of things (to sweeten whipped cream, on porridge, on fruit--you name it...), so it's well worth doing a full batch.
I don't usually do sweet popcorn, but I like this one! -- posted by Noo

My Very Favorite Apple Crumb Pie

This is my all-time favorite recipe for apple pie. The crumb topping is so delicious and the apple filling flavor is just right. You will need a deep dish pie pan for this. The crumb topping will seem like a lot when you're putting it on but it turns out wonderful when baked. I bake my pie on a cookie sheet, lined with aluminum foil. You can use your favorite pie crust for this or try "Recipe#51537", one of my favorites for one-crust pies. -- posted by Lainey6605

Pumpkin Brownies

The recipe is from Nestle (I'm not taking credit for it) and it was sooo good that I had to post it here for safe-keeping. It originally called for vegetable oil which I subbed with applesauce as I do with all my baked goods to cut calories and I tweaked a few other things. This is perfect to make when you have only a little bit of pumpkin left! A little goes a long way for this recipe. NOTE: I just modified this recipe because I made it again, and used 1 oz Baker's bittersweet choclate instead of cocoa powder. Came out so much better! Sweeter and creamier. I think adding 1 tbsp milk or cream will give it a nice lustre too. -- posted by the80srule

Spooktacular Halloween Pudding Cups

Super fun Halloween treats that the kids are sure to enjoy. Easy to make and look great to!! I got the idea off of another website that used chocolate pudding but I thought using vanilla and dying it orange would be really cool since the pudding and oreos together would be traditional Halloween colors. This recipe can be easily divided in half and so on. For the pudding I used the kind that you cook verses the instant. I think the cooked pudding has a much nicer and thicker consistancy. The amount below for the oreos is a guesstimate because it wouldn't let me put down 1 large package of oreos but either way just one regular package of oreos crushed is what you need. Enjoy! -- posted by mamawheezy
