Keep this on hand for summer guests or--if you're like me--you need a way to preserve all that luscious rhubarb, this recipe is a sure-fire way to use some up! OR if you've already frozen all your 'barb, then measure out what's need--let it thaw completely, then drain--but do NOT press liquid out! Taste Of Home, Summer '09 NOTE: cooking time noted is that needed for FREEZING!!! -- posted by Debber

The Best Lemonade Ever!

I just had this today on Memorial Day at a cookout at my neighbors, it was so good & so strangely made I just had to get the recipe to post on Zaar for my friends. She got it from her boyfriend's mom in Arizona. So simple & so good!
Sparkling White Sangria

It's the Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Cider that makes this recipe. It provides sweetness as well as bubbles. A cheap wine works as well as a pricey one. This recipe is for about a gallon's worth, but buy enough ingredients so you can make more. Your guests will definitely ask for it. -- posted by Chef TGCreative

Bahama Mama

This is a great summer drink from Dale Degroff (The Essential Cocktail) that will go by the pitcher! This recipe is by the glass, though, for sipping on the patio. If you don't have all four rums, you can improvise by doubling up (I would recommend making sure to use dark rum and coconut rum, however). Angostura bitters really make the drink, but could be left out if you don't have them (usually found in the tropical drink section at a supermarket or liquor store). -- posted by Ames Shaps

Easylicious Raspberry (Or Any Other Fruit!) Margarita!

I LOVE raspberry margaritas and have been dying to make my own.. but reluctant to get into the complications of real raspberries, and skeptical that Chambord would give me the strong raspberry flavor I wanted.
Purple Basil Lemonade

From Cooking Light Magazine's July 2009 edition: "In this recipe, basil is crushed with sugar to release the oils. If you don't have a mortar and pestle, process the basil, sugar and about 1/4 cup of water in a food processor or blender." I am eager to serve this at my next party. The recipe doesn't indicate this, but I would personally place the strained lemonade into a pitcher and refrigerate until ready to serve. When having a party, it's always best to prepare ahead if possible! -- posted by MarthaStewartWanabe

Tropical Passion Rum Punch

This recipe came about one day when we had an interesting juice in the house, a great thirst and a desire for something a little different.
This is definitely not for the kids.
The name came from the location...we live in Jamaica (Tropical), and the colour...sort of a purple which comes from the pink of the Juice and the blue in the curacao (Purple passion) and the possible outcome....
This is a no fooling around Rum Punch..approach with caution and enjoy.

Please note: I used Guava-Pineapple Juice which has a pink colour, but any combination of tropical juices Mango with Pineapple etc. will work. The pineapple seems to be key. I use Appleton's Rum because it is Jamaican and great Rum. -- posted by Donalda

Rose Cottage Fragrant Old English Rose Liqueur Syrup

This is my mum's recipe for rose syrup - and the name of their cottage in England! Try to use old English shrub roses, as they are highly fragranced and impart a delicate flavour to the syrup. The correct word for this recipe would be a Shrub or a Ratafia, as it is fortified with brandy - however, Ratafia would also have fruit or almond kernels added; it would have been offered as a refreshing "pick-me-up" to gentile ladies - with water or lemonade added of course! This recipe is well over 100 years old and a bottle of this would make an unusual and delighttful gift. -- posted by French Tart

Cucumber Agua Fresca

A big glass 'vittoleros' canister of freshly made, wonderfully refreshing Agua Fresca in a rainbow of colors can be found on the counters of the best authentic neighborhood Taquerias - I look forward to them in the summer heat, but since I have no tolerance for spicy hot food, I don't get them too often. Many of these 'Fresh Waters' are regional Mexican and Salvadoran, but some of them are simply common sense. The best of them are subtle, balanced, and not overly sweet. With so few ingredients, the quality of the material used to make it is essential. If you feel the need to dress the drink up, use garnishes - thinly sliced fresh fruit, lavender flower stems place in the glass like swizzle sticks, or herbs frozen in the ice.
This is great for a backyard or patio party, particularly if you have one of those wonderful glass tap jars to serve it in which will display the jewel-like color, but be certain to keep it on ice. This keeps well for several days in the refrigerator, or you can freeze it in ice cubes, then once frozen turn out into plastic bags or storage containers to enjoy later. -- posted by Mitzimom

Strawberry-Jamaica Agua Fresca

Dried Hibuscus Flowers, known as 'Jamaica' give the 'tart' component to this summer quencher, and the resulting drink is absolutely, and shockingly, gorgeous. The hibiscus has a very high acidity, which you have to balance with the sweet, fragrant strawberries. This one takes a bit more time to make, but it's worth it. Purchase the 'jamaica' flowers at your local Mexican specialty store - they last quite a long time if stored properly. -- posted by Mitzimom

Lil Bit of Sunshine

This is an extremely simple ADULT bevy....I found this worked and was rather tasty while visiting friends in Albuquerque, NM. Availability of the classic Sunny D Mango flavor is hit and miss....but trust me....it's worth trying! Classic bottle....light green lid. NOT the orange infused new stuff (dark blue lid). :) Lots of friends have tried this...and Chef --V asked oh, so nicely that I get it posted. It is so nice on a hot day...sitting by the pool (or not). Very smooth and deceptively sneaky so be careful (ok, I pour a lil heavy-handed.) I posted it with a better ratio I hope. :)

Lavender, Lemon and Honey Tea from Wolds Way Lavender Farm

A wonderful recipe that I discovered on a recipe card from Wold's Way Lavender Farm in North Yorkshire, England! This magical lavender farm is just down the road from my parent's house and is high on my "must visit" list when I go home to England. I have found that this tea is a miracle worker for headaches, head colds and colds in general........the soothing honey helps sore throats whilst the lemon contains essential vitamin C, and the lavender provides a calming and refreshing element to this herbal tea or tisane. Although this is mainly served hot, I have made this during the summer months as an iced tea, as it's perfect for hot, sultry days. -- posted by French Tart

White Sangria

Fresh, sweet and fruity - goes well with tapas or as a light cocktail, I even drink it with paella! Slightly different from the traditional one which calls for red wine, but I just can't drink red wine when it's too hot outside, so I tried with white wine and it turned out just as great.
Feel free to sub any other type of fruit according to season or taste, and where possible use liqueurs that match. -- posted by AdriMicina

Banana Almond Date Soy Smoothie

This vegan smoothie is amazingly rich, creamy, filling, and healthy. It has a nice texture to it from the almonds and a natural sweetness from the banana and dates. I like that there is no refined sugar added or any animal products, all good for us and the planet. I like using a frozen banana to make the drink cold, but room temperature works well too. If you want to freeze bananas, peel them before freezing. Peeling frozen bananas doesn't work! And place them separated in the freezer so they don't freeze together. -- posted by Chef #1363287

Deep Freeze Latte

This is a copycat recipe of an outstanding coffee drink served in a famous bakery in Langkawi, Malaysia. Frozen coffee cubes melt in warm milk, chilling it up slowly, leaving you highly caffeinated and yet mellow. It's an excellent way to drink coffee in humid, tropical weather typical of South-East Asia. Preparation time is for freezing the coffee. I have found that coffee takes longer to freeze than water. -- posted by Hani Selamat

Kiwi, Strawberry and Grape Juice.

I got this recipe from 'The top 100 juices' by Sarah Owen, published by Lifetime Distributors, Castle Hill, Australia.
Sarah Owen says "All three fruits in this juice provide a massive infection-fighting boost of vitamin C and can help to shorten the duration of a cold. The kiwi fruit a also contain lutein, a phytonutrient known to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and eye disease. Both strawberries and grapes are high in ellagic acid, which neutralizes carcinogens. The tannins, flavones and active compounds in the grapes combine to make them energizing and strengthen the cell walls of blood vessels"
You could make more than one serving, and serve with lemonade and ice in a punch bowl for a party if desired.
I haven't made this yet, as I don't have a juicer, but if I ever get one, this will be the first juice that I make.
Enjoy! :) -- posted by TALIA #3

Berry Yoghurt Smoothie

I got this recipe from Sarah Owen's book "The Top 100 juices", published by Lifetime Distributers, Castle Hill, Australia.
Sarah Owen says "The super-nutrient vitamin C is needed for more than 300 diferent processes in the body, but it is easily wiped out by smoking, pollution and stress. Found in abundance in berries, vitamin C and other antioxidants help to quash the damaging free radicals that are associated with many illnesses."
The original recipe calls for natural bio yoghurt to be used, but any yoghurt will do.
This makes a large amount of smoothie, and if you're making it just for yourself, I'ld recommend halving it.
I hope you enjoy this healthy - but still tasty - smoothie :) -- posted by TALIA #3
