Flank Steak (Marinated)

DH's all-time favourite steak! It really must be marinated overnight if you are going to use flank steak. I usually buy a more tender cut of meat. If a barbecue is not available, your oven broiler will do fine. I have even used the Foreman Grill, at maximum heat. The taste is "to die for". Baked, or twice baked potatoes and a nice crisp salad work well with this. Note: marinating time is not included in the preparation time. -- posted by Gwen35

Steak on a Stick

When I make these I always think about "mystery meat on a stick" at fairs & carnivals, although I think these are much better! I use this as an appetizer but use it any way you like. Although the recipe calls for flank steak, I usually use sirloin steaks as I have it in the freezer more often. -- posted by Sassy in da South

Oriental Steak Skewers (Or Appetizer Bites)

Cubes of sirloin steak are marinated in a flavorful oriental sauce and broiled or grilled until done. You can skewer the meat for a meal, or cook seperately and serve with toothpicks for an appetizer. Prep time includes 2 hours of marinade time, you may want to do longer. Number of serving depends on how you're serving the steaks, this makes approx. six meals or 12 appetizers.
Steak - Bobcat Country Style

Grilled steak with a very simple marinade that's full of flavor, but doesn't overpower the flavor of good quality meat. You only need 4 ingredients, including the steak, and it takes very little time to prepare and cook so it's great for unannounced guests. When I moved to the country a year ago, my best friend gave me a "Kill it and Grill it" birthday gift - an Old Henry .22 repeating rifle and a gas grill. Thank goodness there was this recipe and a steak included so we didn't starve! -- posted by blondpnthr

Orange-Glazed Flank Steak

My friend call this her "go to" recipe for entertaining for good reason. You prepare the marinade the night before and the glaze early on the day before you serve it. Leaves you with a great meal and time to mingle. Cut the recipe in half and use only one 2 lb. steak or two 1 pound steaks. Other steak cuts work well, too. I serve this with either Recipe #16870 or Recipe #292772.
Asian Marinated Flank Steak

I originally got the idea for this out of Sunset Magazine, and have tweaked it to suit my family and friends. It makes a great OAMC entree for the grill, or to take camping. I've used this on chicken and salmon as well as beef, just reducing the marinating time appropriately. Don't use ground (dry) ginger in this- the flavor is not the same. -- posted by IngridH

Grilled Thai Beef Skewers

From Williams-Sonoma. DH and I tried these for lunch today. Easy and tasty! According to Williams-Sonoma, if you would like these for a complete meal, you can serve the skewers over scallion rice. To do this, cook your rice according to package instructions and stir in 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions and 1 Tb toasted sesame seeds. We just had ours straight from the skewers. -- posted by Dr. Jenny

Sesame-Crusted Steaks With Buttermilk-Horseradish Sauce

Tangy buttermilk, cool sour cream and the distinct flavor of horseradish combine to make a unique sauce for sesame-crusted steak. Be sure not to use thick-cut steaks for this (unless you like your steak really rare) because the sesame seeds will burn before the steak gets cooked through.
Smoked Paprika-Rubbed Steaks With Valdeon Butter

What a wonderful combination of robust flavors! The tender rib-eye steaks get flavored by the smoky garlic marinade as well as a pungent Spanish blue-cheese butter that melst down the sides!!! It would taste outstanding with any creamy blue but the Valdeon from Picos de Europa adds complexity! Valdeon is a rich, creamy, intensely-flavored cow and goat's milk blue cheese, saltier than Stilton and tamer than Cabrales.Had these fantastic steaks at the Borrero's house over Memorial Day and they were to die for!! Niurka and I found the recipe in F&W Magazine 02/2005 edition. Recipe by Grace Parisi from "Cheese Guru." She let the marinated steaks stay overnight and meld with all the flavors. Neither the marinating time nor the chilling time for the compnd butter have been included in the time for preparing the recipe. -- posted by Manami

Korean Barbecue - Bulgogi

Bulgogi or Bulgalbi, broiled (grilled) beef strips and beef ribs
respectively, exemplify an age-old tradition of cooking on a curved iron
hotplate - a tradition that is matched in northern China and neighboring
Mongolia as introduced by the Manchurians. Today this has been streamlined
for table service, with specially built cone-shaped hotplates fitted over
tabletop burners, to provide an enjoyable and intimate eating experience.
Meats of all kinds, including mutton, pork and poultry, offal and seafood,
are cooked in this way, being first marinated in a spicy mixture
encompassing the characteristic seasonings: soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic,
ginger, pepper or chili, toasted sesame seeds and green onions. The meat is
marinated well in advance so that the flavor is intense. Cooking time is
minimal - just enough to cook through and seal the surface. Serve Bulgogi
with white rice and yangnyum kanjang sauce, together with a selection of
accompaniments such as kim chee (chili pickled cabbage) and jeot khal
(spiced whitefish). -- posted by Stacie Lora

From Everyday with Rachel Ray, it's a bit unusual, but it's great, kind of like a knife and fork version of a steak sandwich This uses a skirt steak, but any steak would be good here - I used filet mignons seasoned with my favorite BBQ seasoning, and I used sourdough bread.
I cut the recipe in half for two filets, had three smallish vine-ripe tomatoes, and three slices of sourdough bread, it worked out well. Serve with a green salad for a great summer dinner. -- posted by Recipe Reader

Dry-Rubbed Rib Eye Steak Restaurant Style

The other day I saw Chef Anne Burrell demonstrate this delicious way to serve thick and tender steak! The brown sugar in the dry rub gives the steak a crusty finish, while the smoked paprika and other spices keep it savory. You need to refrigerate the dry-rubbed steaks for at least a day, and up to 3 days, the way it's done in her restaurant. I'm not sure I could make it to the 3 day mark, but the first day and a half is easy. Just prep the steaks as soon as possible after purchase, then pop away in your fridge meat drawer. Chill time and grill preparation are not included in the prep time. -- posted by ninja

Filipino Breakfast Steak

One thing I really miss about my Filipino ex-boyfriend is the Filipino breakfast steaks him and his family would make. I wish I could call him for the recipe, but we haven't talked in months so I have been searching for the recipe online. I think I finally found it, although I'm not sure it's the same thing since I haven't made it yet. I am posting it here for safekeeping. Prep time and cook time are estimates. I know he used to fry the meat in a wok or frying pan so I'll try making it like that when I finally make it. Good luck if you choose to make it! I have no idea how it will turn out, because I could not find any ratings for the recipe. You may want to try halfing the recipe so if it turns out horrible you wouldn't have wasted as much meat. -- posted by AmandaMcG

I found this in a 2007 issue of cooking light and finally got around to trying it. It was awesome!! I didn't use the fresh cilantro that is added at the end and I didn't really agree with their cook time of 2 minutes on the beef so I cooked mine until the outsides were no longer pink probably 6 to 8 minutes or so. I did find it a little bit saucy so I am personally going to lower the soy sauce by 1 tablespoon next time I make it but, it is definitely a keeper. -- posted by nkoprince08

Seared beef is one of the most popular and simplest of beef preparations in Mexico. Invented in the 1940's by restauranteur Jose Loredo, the dish always features steak that has been sprinkled with lime juice and salt, then quickly seared. Leave out the chile pepper if you don't want the heat. Enjoy! -- posted by Nif

Spice-Rubbed Flank Steak With Bell Pepper Relish

Found this in The Washington Post - good summer eats - Grill, garden fresh peppers & FAST! They wrote, "Quick-cooking dinners don’t require a sacrifice of flavor for speed. In the time it takes the steak to grill, diced bell pepper and sweet onion are cooked together with cloves and apple cider vinegar to form a fragrant and flavorful relish for the meat. Cloves give the vegetables an instant pickled-relish flavor. The whole dish takes under 20 minutes to cook."

Old School Santa Maria Tri-Tip

The meat for Tri Tip barbecue was originally prime, boneless, top sirloin, but about 3" thick and weighing 3 to 4 pounds. (Note that all but the largest tri-tips weigh less than 2 pounds.) Cooked over a bed of red oak wood coals. The "Santa Maria style of California Barbecue" started around 1950 in Santa Maria. The meat is strung on flat steel rods and rubbed before cooking with a mixture of black pepper, salt and garlic. Although most sites report that the cooking time is about 45 minutes, by actual experience the cooking time should be not much more than half that -- about 25 minutes, over a very hot bed of wood coals. What is unique about this Santa Maria barbecue is that there is no preparation -- the rub is applied immediately before cooking, and the meat is not trimmed until done cooking. -- posted by Kana Kahuna

Lemon-Garlic Sirloin

From Southern Living March 2008, this was a wonderful tasting steak, though I changed the original recipe around somewhat. Sirloin is readily available in the meat section of most markets, but for a thicker portion, such as the once called for in this recipe, check with your butcher to see if you'll need to pre-order it. I used buffalo steaks rather than beef for the first test of this recipe, and they were so tender and flavorful. I started this in the morning and we broiled it in the afternoon for an early dinner. Enjoy! NOTE: Prep time/cook time DOES NOT include 5-hour chill time to marinate. ** I ended up broiling this to medium-rare doneness, rather than the broil/bake method indicated. -- posted by FloridaNative

Bacon Wrapped, Filet Mignon

Using real thick and smokey bacon really gives this plenty of flavor. It’s cooked slow, because of the bacon, and, as a result, the fillet comes out real moist. There’s so much flavor in the meat, additional sauce isn’t needed.
