Blow Your Mind Amazing Chocolate Cherry Pudding - Raw

One of the many amazing recipes we made in our raw foods cooking class last month. Raw cacoa powder is chocolate in the purest form, and it has the most INTENSE chocolate flavor. A Vitamix blender is almost a MUST for this recipe, in order to get the dates blended smooth enough to be like pudding. Soaking them for at least 2 hours helps a LOT. Recipe can easily be doubled -- posted by Kozmic Blues

Yummy Fool Proof Gluten Free French Bread!

From Cooking Free by Carol Fenster. This turned out great, even in a regular bread pan. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Carol says: "Put this in a cold oven for a crisp crust and nice texture. If this doesn't work in your oven, let the bread rise until level with top of pan; then bake in preheated 425° F oven for 25-30 minutes. Use a pan specially designed for French bread." It is critical to cool bread completely before slicing and is easier to slice with electric knife. This is a quicker bread because you don't have to let it rise before baking. -- posted by WI Cheesehead

Swiss Chard Curry

A very hardy curry dish the whole family loved even though i'm usually the only one who likes swiss chard or curry. The recipe came from the Saskatoon Sun. I used canned chick peas rather than dried and added yams. I never had fresh ginger so I used ginger powder. Havn't tried it with the yogurt either. -- posted by Tilden

Smoothie in Paradise

Pineapple, mango, banana and coconut....why shouldn't breakfast remind you of a caribbean vacation?!?! I've been playing mad scientist with the blender lately and this is my favorite concoction yet. The most important thing I've learned about smoothies: FROZEN FRUIT IS THE WAY TO GO! If you allow it to partially thaw so that the fruit is still quite icey, but softened enough to blend easily, you do not have to add as much ice and thus get more intense flavor.

(If you do not care for the granular consisitency of flaked coconut you could substitute with 1/8 to 1/4 cup of canned cream of coconut.) -- posted by FolkDiva

My Grandma's Potato Rolls or Potato Bread (For Bread Machine)

This is my Grandma's recipe and it is DELISH! I am not sure where she got it from, but these rolls have been a tradition in our family for as long as I can remember. This recipe uses REAL mashed potatoes (not instant flakes). So, when you plan to make this be sure to reserve 1/2 to 1 c. of the mashed potatoes you served at dinner the night before!! Today I was hungry for these rolls but didn't feel like rolling out dough, so I attempted to make the recipe (cut in half) in my bread machine to make a loaf of bread instead....PERFECT results! I have listed the ingredients the way my bread machine lists them, but do be sure to check manufacturer's instructions on the correct order of ingredients for your specific machine. I hope everyone enjoys this as much as our family does.

Below are both the rolls and the bread machine versions of this recipe. -- posted by SReiff

Italian Meringue Buttercream

A very versatile Buttercream. This recipe produces enough buttercream to cover three 9 inch round layer cakes. This recipe can be turned into chocolate buttercream, or spiced buttercream. You will need to have a candy thermometer, an electric stand mixer with a whisk attachment, a pastry brush and a bowl of water. This is my favorite buttercream! It's sweet, but not too rich and just the right consistency to do just about anything with it. The recipe is from my pastry arts school. -- posted by pastrygirl_5280

My Mum's Signature New Year Cake

My Mum found this recipe somewhere when I was about 5 and it was such a hit that for several successive years we had only this cake for any holiday. Even though we later introduced more variation to our desserts menu, this one is still the biggest favourite. It may seem complicated, but I was 13 when I made it for the first time completely on my own - so it should not be too difficult. Still, it is somewhat time-consuming, so I now usually make it only once a year, for the New Year's Day. It is big enough for a company of 8-10 people. One of the most enjoyable things is having your guests to try and guess what the filling is made of (no one ever succeeds, trust me :) ). The prep time includes time needed to make the batter, the filling and the topping and to assemble the cake. -- posted by Nat L

Fall Harvest Smoothie

Top with a little fat free whip cream for an extra-special desert. My teen-age daughter begs for this and sometimes we even heat it up for a thick soup. The key to this recipe is to make sure you use a blender/smoothie maker that has enough power to completely puree alll the ingredients; otherwise the squash will stay stringy. -- posted by RackeSRN

Good Eats Pound Cake Light - Alton Brown

Transcribed from the 10/26/09 episode. Slow-churned European style butters have smaller butterfat crystals, which leads to smaller, finer bubbles and a finer texture in the finished cake, so splurge on the expensive butter for this! Be sure to use cake flour, not all-purpose; the finer particle size, the lower protein and the bleaching all lead to a better, more tender texture in the final cake. Substituting buttermilk for some of the eggs and butter lightens the cake, lowers the fat and calories, and adds a tangy note; Alton recommends whole buttermilk, not low-fat or non-fat. It's technically not a pound cake anymore, but we won't quibble with such good eats. -- posted by DrGaellon

Sugar Cookie Cut-Outs

I had misplaced this recipe and recently found it again. When DD was in Kindergarten the children had to take turns bringing a snack to school for everyone to share and DD loved to bring these cookies. I love this recipe because it doesn't require refrigeration before rolling out and because the cookies always turned out beautifully. The recipe is from a little booklet called Wilton Christmas Recipes & Ideas.
Note: If you're using margarine, be sure to use the hard margarine that comes in a brick like butter, not soft tub margarine. -- posted by Dreamer in Ontario

Fluffy "cut-Out" Sugar Cookies

Have you ever had those sugar cookies at publix that are really fluffy and cake like? Well hear is that recipe. I think its the sour cream that makes it so fluffy. I also roll them out maybe 1/4 in thick and under cook them a little but thats probably a personal preference. They do take a little work just like any cut-out cookies but this is something that anytime I ask someone in our family what I can bring for dessert they always say this! I use my kitchen aid but before that I would use my hand blender as long as I could and then mix the last part of the flour in by hand. Hope you enjoy. -- posted by 998171

Paula Deen Sweet Potato Balls

This recipe came directly from the FoodNetwork.com website, and they were highlighted as one of Paula's Thanksgiving 2009 foods in her Thanksgiving Special aired in 19 November 2009 on Food Network . The original airing of the "Thanksgiving Special" was 10 November 2005...just in case you want to look back in the archives!

Some say the recipe is too sweet. So, you may want to test-drive the recipe for your own sweetness. These suggestions you might make as I did: I let the sweet potatoes fully cool before mashing, I omitted the orange zest and put just a small amount of orange juice (not a huge orange taste fan), and cut back the brown sugar to 1/3 of a cup. One reviewer said that she only used 1/2 of a large marshmallow after she had them oozing out with a full marshmallow. However, Paula Deen states that if you overcook your Sweet Potato Balls then the marshmallow will burst out of the ball. So be careful not to over-bake them if you choose a whole marshmallow. I chose to roll the balls in chopped pecans and then placed each ball in a cup of a nonstick muffin tin (the recipe made exactly 12 large balls--enough to fill a full tin). I also made some with the coconut mixture. Another option would be to roll them in oats, sugar, & cinnamon OR coconut & pecans. I put the filled muffin tin in the refrigerator overnight and baked the next day after removing my turkey from the oven. They came out perfectly! -- posted by McGowan Family

Perfect Bread and Dinner Rolls

This is a recipe that I've been perfecting for the last couple of years. My wife and I don't buy store bought bread any more thanks to this recipe. It is also much healthier than any other bread recipe I've found but doesn't taste "healthy". I included ingredients that make this bread good for diabetics also. This recipe works best in a stand mixer but it would be fairly easy to halve the recipe and make it in a bread machine. I wouldn't recommend mixing it by hand (unless you have Popeye arms...). It's a fairly sticky dough. Prep time includes all 3 rises. -- posted by price403

Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie

I made this completely by accident, and i love it! I use Yoplait thick and creamy yougurt, i think it gives the drink the best texture, and I also use the condensed frozen juice, welches white grape is the best, but apple also works, depends on how sweet you like it. I also found substituting 1 Delmonte Fruit chiller in polar raspberry tastes better to me than the frozen berries themselves. To each his own.
For a healthier smoothie use light yougurt, no sugar added juice, and skim milk. -- posted by Chef #1470073

New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. The New York Times did a big article on the perfect chocolate chip cookie, interviewing and sampling several famous chocolate chip cookies at various bakeries. Several tests were done; larger cookies (such as six-inch affairs) scored better, as did letting the dough age for 24 or even 36 hours (up to 72 hours). A small sprinkle of sea salt was also recommended. I usually make 3 huge cookies and divide the rest of the dough in half, wrapping it in saran wrap. Also, I've cheated a bit at this recipe and used plain flour instead of the two types of flour, as well as neglected sifting the flour. I don't have a paddle attachment on my mixer. I also usually use chocolate chips. You still achieve the very special taste, but the presentation is nicer when you follow the recipe exactly.
Ingram's Old Fashion Sugar Cookies

This is a recipe from my grandmother's kitchen. My mother has made these for Christmas every year since I was a child (over 30 years now) and every person that has tried these think that are delicious!

Icing the cookies is a family tradition and is one that is fun and can take some time so be sure to set a couple hours aside to do so. Although it can take time to icing these cookies it'll be well worth the work in taste and family fun. Enjoy! -- posted by Chef #1362592

Famous Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies are the most different, richest ones I have ever found. They have a killer amount of butter and oil, but worth the indulgence! You truly can "eat just one" of these babies!! For variety, I have added unsweetened cocoa or lemon extract, but the original recipe is still the best.
Devil's Smoothie - Cure for the Common Cold

I've known about this recipe for several years and it is time to be shared with RecipeZaar. This recipe is from Melissa Ray Davis and taken from her blog.
This smoothie is a treatment for the common cold and is best taken at the early onset of symptoms. It is strong and I usually take it over a period of an hour and probably best not taken on an empty stomach.
Fresh ingredients are key! Also, get unsweetened 100% cranberry juice - not a juice cocktail. -- posted by Kara9080

Light & Flaky Cinnamon Rugelach

The ingredients might look the same as other recipes, but the technique is unique and the "secret" ingredient won Tina Wasserman's reputation as a baker and is now one of her most sought-after recipes. (Tina is a well-known Dallas cookbook author, chef, food columnist, and cooking instructor.)
The mixing technique of the mixer allows the cream cheese and butter to really combine and become light and airy. This results in a flaky, crisp, but tender, finished product.
The vigorous beating of the butter and cream cheese before adding the flour creates a light, layered dough similar to puff pastry. Rolling the dough in confectioners' sugar to give a slight glaze to the finished pastry and helps balance the richness of the dough with the sweet filling. Make sure the dough is well chilled or it will not roll out properly.
*NOTE: In general, it is not a good idea to use salted butter in baked goods. However, because of the lack of liquid in rugelach dough, salted butter is the only way to get the salt evenly distributed. (The addition of a little salt is important to the flavor.) -- posted by blucoat

Ultra Moist Easy Chocolate Bundt Cake

This cake is so easy, I throw it together when I make my bread machine challah as this recipe calls for whites, and the challah calls for yolks. The results are a delicious moist cake, that you can't help sneaking another piece. You can make it more chocolatey if you wish by folding in 1 C. of chocolate chips before baking.
If this is made with Duncan Hines cake mix, it will be pareve (dairy (lactose) and meat free) If using the chocolate chips and want it pareve, be sure to use dairy free ones, I like the 365 whole foods brand. -- posted by Lee Hock

Wheat Sandwich Bread from Amish Starter

I had an abundance of Amish friendship bread starter and wanted to try something different than the sickly-sweet quick bread recipes out there. I saw JanuaryBride's Sourdough French Bread - ABM (Amish Bread starter) at http://www.recipezaar.com/sourdough-french-bread-abm-amish-bread-starter-375789 and decided to adapt it a bit.

I have a Cuisinart SM-70 stand mixer, so my directions reflect this. Refer to your mixer's manual for the speed and duration to use for bread dough.

You can also use a bread machine on the French Bread setting. Follow your machine's instructions.

Keep in mind that the bulk of that prep time is idle time when your dough is rising and you can do other things. :)

NOTE: The starter ingredients at the beginning are here for nutritional info only. The system doesn't know the nutritional info for starter, so I gave approximate measurements of the starter's ingredients). -- posted by Gardenwife

Mango Cake With Lemon Icing

What makes this cake so tastey is using pureed fresh mango. I don't advise using frozen or canned mango. This cake is incredibly moist! -- posted by breezermom

Fruit Pizza

Very appealing to the eye and even better; easy to make and fun to eat. A great way to celebrate fruit so have fun and mix and match. You can even have fun with the "crust," try using sugar cookie or even choc chip cookie dough instead of the pizza pie crust. No matter how you personalized this recipe it's sure to put a smile on everyone’s face! -- posted by Chef #1544785
