Blueberry White Chocolate Scones

Everyone asks for this recipe. The white chocolate adds a surprise sweetness to these blueberry scones. I have also substituted cranberries for the blueberries on occasion and they are great as well. Depending on your oven, you may want to broil for the last minute to ensure that the tops are golden brown. -- posted by Just Call Me Martha

Cape Breton Scones

One of the very first recipes I ever made, this is a traditional Nova Scotian recipe from my grandmother (who was actually from Pictou rather than Cape Breton.) One of my favourite childhood memories is of picking a mess of wild strawberries then making strawberry shortcake with these scones and real whipped cream - and the scones made it. Nowadays I use 'Sucanat' instead of dark brown sugar. It is a brand of organic, minimally processed sugar, which has a marvellous flavour. It is probably very similar to the cheap brown sugar that came to Nova Scotia in the 19th century when they did so much trade with the Carribean. -- posted by Jenny Sanders

Cooked Oatmeal Scones

Most scones ARE cooked; they're better that way. What I mean, of course, is that these are made with leftover cooked oatmeal. The only way to get leftover oatmeal in my house is to make extra and hide enough for these right away. There is nothing more comforting on a cold winter morning than a big bowl of oatmeal - except for these scones, with a little butter and honey and a nice pot of tea. -- posted by Jenny Sanders

Rosmairi Oven Scones

This recipe is from the 'Highland Fling' cookbook. My grandmother ordered 4 cookbooks from Scotland for herself, my mother & my aunts. It makes a delicious, fluffy scone & we've had tons of requests for the recipe over the years. I have given the exact steps as written, but added our modifications. This makes a sweet scone--perfect for double Devonshire cream & some jam. -- posted by KristinB

English Hard Cake

The first time you make this, you might wonder where you went wrong because it's hard and on the dry side...Trust me, it's supposed to be that way...This is not one of those moist 'tea' cakes...
The 'trick' is that you have some strong hot tea with it...Don't make the mistake of having it with coffee, you lose the 'effect'...I prefer stong hot English Breakfast tea with no other flavor (no herbals, etc)
Only then will you appreciate the magic of this seemingly ordinary 'tea' cake! -- posted by Cookin'withGas

Sandra Lee - Mocha Chip Scones

I love the decadence of scones, love coffee, and love chocolate chips!
I'm not a huge fan of Sandra Lee on the Food Network, but these scones looked pretty darn good for Semi-Homemade ones made with Bisquick! :)
They tasted even better!!!
(However, I do think the 3/4 cup of white chocolate chips made this a little too sweet...so I replaced the white with an additional 3/4 cup semi-sweet ones. I also felt that the dough needed an additional teaspoon of vanilla extract. I found the coffee flavor to be far too weak using double strength coffee, so I substituted 4 1/2 tsp instant espresso powder dissolved in 1/4 cup hot tap water. )
Enjoy with coffee or hot chocolate for a sinful breakfast! -- posted by GoodMorningBurger

Puyallup Fair Scones (Fisher Scones)

First, these scones are quick, easy, great and a perfect project for a beginning baker. Second...you need to know how to pronounce Puyallup...I wouldn't want anyone to embarrass themselves!!..."Pew-allup", not Pooyloop!!...Here in Western Washington the Puyallup Fair is a huge annual event. It is one of the largest in the US. The fair is all about food for me! And Fisher Scones are the biggest draw...they sell something like 80,000 a day or something like that!! I have many fond memories of Fisher Scones. I found this recipe on-line, the poster said that she came across the recipe in a 1930's Fisher Cookbook her grandmother had. The original recipe called for raisins, but they no longer make them that way. The ONLY way to eat these is warm with a big slab of butter and raspberry jam, just like they serve them at the fair!! Store them in an air tight container and they keep well. They taste nice cold, but way better heated up in the microwave, and don't forget the butter and jam!
FYI...Make sure you sift, then measure the flour per instructions.
NOTE: I took this recipe and made some changes to it and I think this new recipe is even better Mrs. G's Fair Scones Recipe #184105...try them both and see what you think! -- posted by Mrs Goodall

Wholemeal Fruit Yoghurt Scones

This is an Edmonds Cookbook recipe (New Zealand woman's cooking bible) that I have modified slightly. You can use any type of fruit yoghurt, although stuff with a lot of pips wouldn't be good.

Please note that these will not rise as high as regular scones (probably due to the yoghurt & wholemeal flour). -- posted by LilKiwiChicken

Bed & Breakfast Scones

Started making these years ago; when oldest daughter was in high school, she'd request these whenever a friend stayed over for the weekend. Serve with Recipe #230378, Recipe #230379, Recipe #208953 or your favorite jam with butter. TIME-SAVING TIP: Line up several zip-top, quart-size bags (I do 10 at a time [10 bags = 10 recipes]), then pour in the dry ingredients, then label and store in a cool, dark spot in the pantry. At meal-time, dump one bag into mixing bowl and proceed. This works for pancakes, cornbread and pizza, too! Easy for the kids to whip a batch together, too! -- posted by Debber

Deborah's Divine Dinner Biscuits

When I was pregnant with my second child, I had just moved back to Ireland. I had a terrible craving for those biscuits you get at Red Lobster, but considering my closest one was probably on the coast of Maine, I had no choice but to make my own or suffer! I came up with this recipe, and I think they are divine, as does anyone else who tries them. I think they might even be better than the Red Lobster ones!
Aunt Dot's Scones

Treat yourself! These are strictly an adult treat, as they're not cookie-sweet.... but they ARE moist and flavorful. My Aunt Dot, (a fabulous cook), sent me this recipe from Missouri several years ago and I have made them many times since then. Sometimes I get up early in the morning and make up a batch for the neighbors, which they very much appreciate. I especially savor eating 2 or 3 of these scones for brunch along with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio. I HIGHLY recommend that, with this recipe, you lay out all the ingredients in advance -- it makes the process go much easier. Enjoy! -- posted by Bone Man

Very English Scones

Adapted from the Be-Ro home recipes book. As an english person I actually have no idea why scones are considered so British. But these are great with tea, a good breakfast food and look very pretty. You can use a variety of fruit fillings (my favourite is glace cherrys), to be honest I think any dried fruit will work as long as it's chopped to a good size (think around the size of a sultana). Also the recipe calls for 8oz self raising flour but when I made these this morning I used 4oz self raising, 4oz plain and 1 teaspoon baking powder and that worked wonderfully. The salt is optional, you can use margarine or butter and caster sugar is white granulated basically. Handle lightly for best results. It's a versatile recipe, enjoy. -- posted by SallyDe

Kellie's Basic, Go Ahead and Mess With It, Scone Recipe

This recipe started as a Lemon Glazed Scone recipe I found in a locally published recipe book, you know the kind sold as a money raiser with personal recipes from community members. Over the years I have adapted it many times. It has become the basic formula I use to make scones for tea with friends, family gatherings or on those mornings when I wake up and find we are out of bread and cereal. I add whatever I have in the cupboard or fridge. It has never let me down.

I encourage you to substitute and add stuff. The basic formula is mix together the dry stuff, cut in the shortening, stir in any lumpy additions then mix in the wet stuff. Have fun with it! -- posted by redplaid huf

Buckingham Palace Scones

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARBARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"What better for this Buckingham Palace than a scone recipe from the lovely Kew Royal Botanical Gardens … Maids in Waiting…

Reportedly from the restaurant across from the Kew
The Maids in Waiting (I think that is the name) in KEW right across the street from the Royal Botanical Gardens ..they also make these wonderful little cakes called Maids in Waiting!!
otherwise, the Orangerie in Kensington."

The above was from my friend Katharine who came over to the house with more friends, to make me a post party brunch. What a kind and thoughtful present! We all had a wonderful time. I relaxed with one of my friends in the parlor, while the others cooked. This is why they called the scones, "Buckingham Palace Scones". -- posted by Sweetiebarbara
