By Accident BBQ Beef

I tried to remember most of a beef and noodles recipe without writing it down...turned out the only ingredient I actually had at home was the beef...so I improvised. I was thinking I'd make rice to go with my beef experiment but didn't have any. Had mine on toast, but bun would be much better. I was also too lazy to shred the beef, but you could. This is not at all spicy..so if you want it hot, add your favorite spices. -- posted by hoosiercookIN'

Hot Truck P M P - Poor Man's Pizza

This is posted in tribute to Bob Petrillose, its creator who passed away last month. I had the honor of eating way too many of these pizza subs during my college days. Rumor has it that a student who worked in the truck sold the idea to Stouffer's and was the origin of the French Bread Pizza.
Vegetarian Sausages

This is great simple recipe I found online. It is great for clearing out your fridge. I saute any misc veggies I have laying around such as mushrooms and spinach and add them to the mix. These can also be put into casings and refrigerated. The colder the rice the easier it will be coat in bread crumbs. I can't say how long because they never lasted longer than a day or so. The patties can be stuffed in pita bread or eaten like a sandwich. -- posted by Irish Fraulein

Cheese on Toast - Cheap and Cheerful British Toasted Cheese

Call it what you will, traditional British cheese on toast is a national institution, an iconic snack enjoyed by all, regardless of class or background! What can be simpler and tastier, hunks of homemade or crusty farmhouse style bread topped with mature Cheddar cheese, a smidge of mustard and Worcestershire sauce for those who desire an extra kick! This is NOT really a recipe; it is a basic method for making a super tasty and nutritious fast food dish. There is even a Cheese on Toast Day celebrated in the UK - mark your calendars now, the last Thursday in April has been set aside for this comforting supper treat. I lived on cheese on toast whilst I was a student, as I am sure most students do nowadays! You can use other British cheeses, but I find the best cheese without a doubt, is a good mature farmhouse cheddar. Make sure your bread is thickly sliced and you have your plates ready and waiting to receive the molten cheesy snack - pull up a chair by the fireside in the winter and enjoy your 5-minute culinary efforts! (This is an all year around snack I hasten to add.) An interesting historical note; toasted cheese was served as the final course to male diners during Edwardian times, in Gentleman's Clubs........the cheese was melted and served in a pot with the toast set around the edges - a sort of Gentleman's Club fondue! -- posted by French Tart

Healthier Meatball Subs

Meatball subs are so yummy. NOT on my diet though! So I decided to see if I could make them somewhat healthier. Viola! Though these are still NOT diet food, they are healthy, well HEALTHIER. These would be great football night food, after a night of trick or treating or any night you need something fast and easy. You could even make these vegetarian friendly using vegetarian meatballs and cheese. Enjoy! -- posted by mama's kitchen

Let me qualify it, when I cook for myself and/or my friends. Anything that we do for the home is a totally different story. Low in calories, low in fat, easy and very healthy!
Serbian Cevapi

This recipe is for Serbian Cevapi or also known as Cevapcici. They are home made sausage links for lunch or dinner usually served over a bed of minced onions on a platter. They are also served in sandwhiches with Pita or Home made Flatbread (Lepinja) with raw onions, tomato wedges and lettuce. Or a Serbian spread called Kajmak.

This recipe makes about 45 links depending on how you cut them. I would suggest letting them sit in the fridge or cool place over night to let the flavor set in.. But at least 2 Hours to cool in fridge. -- posted by Chef #1222633

Teriyaki Turkey Burgers With Grilled Pineapple Slices

Healthful and Satisfying. These moist turkey burgers are sure to please your guests, great on a barbeque or in a pan. No condiments required!
I developed this recipe because I was curious about whether I could make a turkey burger without using eggs or bread crumbs as filler.
If you are planning to grill these on a barbeque, it helps to make the patties early and freeze them first. This will allow it to hold shape long enough for the turkey to release the small amount of fat that will hold it together. -- posted by Mike Schafer

Another option: cook a bigger batch of flatbreads without filling them, piling them on a large sheet of foil and wrapping them to reheat later for serving instead of pita with dips. -- posted by KateL

Kinda Sorta Tex Mex Burger

I threw these together tonight when getting in the mood for ZWT5. When I think 'Texas' I often think of good BBQ and beef. When I think of Mexico I tend to think of a bit of heat and fresh tomatoes and avocado. So, I threw them together to make one yummy burger.
Scottish Lorne Sausages: Square Breakfast Sausage!

Wherever you go in Scotland you will come across Scottish Lorne Sausage, which are square and sliced. Whether you be in a Hotel, a Guest House or a Bed and Breakfast, you will be offered a Scottish cooked breakfast, that will usually include the slices of this Scottish Lorne sausage. It is nearly always on a breakfast menu, along with bacon, egg, and "tattie" (potato) scones, and many Scots will eat it in a bread roll for lunch or maybe serve it with potatoes and vegetables for dinner. This is an easy recipe - and the sausage can be frozen in slices for ease and convenience. Prep time includes chilling time. What's in a name? It is thought that the Lorne sausage, which also goes by the names of square sausage, sliced sausage or sausage slice, was an invention of the Scottish comedian Tommy Lorne who lived from 1890 and died in 1935. He was born in Kirkintilloch near Glasgow. His birth name was Hugh Gallagher Corcoran. Tommy Lorne performed in many Scottish theatres and often performed in Glasgow and Edinburgh and was much in demand for pantomime. In his own acts he would apply white make-up and wear a short kilt, a glengarry, boots that were far too big for him and a jacket that was short. He spoke in an hilarious high pitched voice. It is thought that Lorne sausages were named after Tommy Lorne because of one of his famous catchphrase: "sausages are the boys" - he loved his sausages! He often ate a sausage sandwich between his acts. It has even been suggested that not only were Lorne sausages named after Tommy Lorne and to give people an easy to make sausage sandwich, but that Tommy Lorne was the inventor of the Lorne sausage. -- posted by French Tart

Barbecued Shrimp BLT Sandwich With Lemon Butter Sauce

This is a Wolfgang Puck recipe and it is delicious! I found it again when I was surfing the net - as always, looking for something else, and voila I found it! I had eaten this a long time ago when a friend prepared it for us, my friend left for somewhere in Cuba -- never to be heard of again, more than likely she is very busy trying to build a house for her folks wheeling and dealing, so as to get what she needs -- she doesn't have time to write and then find someone that she trusts to deliver the letter to me! Anyway -- the recipe is truly wonderful! :) Wine pairing: If you're feeling adventurous try a full and oakey Chardonnay from Australia like Rosemount, Petaluma or Lindemans. This dish goes great with a number of the micro brews, such as Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada or the most popular Samuel Adams. -- posted by Manami

Dinner Stuffed Bread Buns

Whenever we get close to the end of a paycheck our meals become more cheap and oft times more original because we have to use whatever we have on hand. We made this up last night and I will certainly be making it a part of our regular menu. I served it with gravy and had steamed zucchini and yellow squash on the side.
The dough I chose was a harder, crusty type of bread. The type that keeps all the filling inside. I don't know how different kinds of dough will turn out with this. You can also use different fillings. I added corn to a couple of mine and it was delicious. I really want to try replacing the onion with lipton onion soup mix.
Note: I made 6 dumplings with mine but dough can easily make 8 -- posted by LutieLu
