Tangy Potato Salad

I know, I kind of have a potato salad problem. This recipe came in my email from Taste of Home (it's a Country Woman recipe), and I couldn't pass it up. It called for French Onion Dip, and I just put 1/2 a package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix with 8 ounces of sour cream. For the dill pickle relish, I used dill pickles and a couple splashes of dill pickle juice. I didn't have any bacon, and I must confess this was delicious even without the bacon. After I made the recipe I read what some people suggested: one person said adding a little horseradish gave it a little kick (I think I'm going to throw some in right now), and another person suggested using half mayonnaise and half sour cream when you make your French Onion Dip for better texture and more flavor. All in all, a tasty little potato number. -- posted by AmyZoe

Summer BBQ Potato Salad With Chipotle Dressing

This potato salad is a blend of flavors Italian and Mexican. The black olive tapenade can be found in most stores near pickles and mustard—if you can’t find it, there are quite a lot of recipes here on recipezaar to make your own. It’s easy. The chipotles and adobo and cumin give this salad a nice “kick” and lets it stand out from so many other potato salads. If cooking for kids, you may want to add only 1 chipotle to start. You may not want to add any salt until tasting—the black olives, chiles, and tomatoes have quite a lot of sodium. Cooking time is mostly the 3 hours you must chill the potato salad. -- posted by westtextazzy

Warm or Cold Potato Garden Salad

Really really tasty when warm and also yummy cold! You can half the recipe easily or double it! Haricot vert is French for green beans. Haricot meaning beans and vert meaning green. French green beans are longer and thinner than most American varieties. They are also more tender and have a more complex flavor. For the most part, they are interchangeable with American green beans which are also called string beans or snap beans. If you are unable to find haricot verts, substitute with the thinnest young green beans you can find.
Salade Nicoise a Ma Facon

A traditional Salade Nicoise can not be beat for sophistication and presentation. A delicious and healthful dinner course for 4, or serves 6 as a salad course. This version has a Craze-e twist by incorporating the black olives (in tapenade form) in the vinaigrette, itself). For this recipe, please invest in 2 tins of tuna packed in olive oil – the difference between that and regular tinned tuna is huge! :-) -- posted by evelyn/athens

Vinegret. Russian Vegetarian Salad

Vinegret [vee-nee-grate] is one of the traditional vegetarian Russian dish, usually Russians cook in on a New Year’s eve. The word Vinegret means mishmash. This salad is very simple but contains a less of calories, healthy, and has a rich taste. To tell you the truth, I hate boiled beet and carrot.. eek.. but their taste is absolutely different in this salad, you can hardly feel them here.

The best way to spend as less time as possible is to boil all ingredients the day before you need them. -- posted by TasteRussian

Potato Salad

I adapted several recipes to come up with this one. Everyone in our family has a favorite style--soft and creamy, mustard, pickles, etc., so I tried to include what was requested. I did omit radishes, bell pepper, and bacon, since those are items I dislike in potato salad (but love in other recipes!). It makes a lot, obviously, but the proportions can be easily cut down. It proved quite popular with all my potato salad lovers! I used russet potatoes this weekend, but a red potato works well , too. Any good brown mustard, including Dijon, works in place of the Creole mustard. The time includes the cooking time for the potatoes and the chopping of the other vegetables. -- posted by Librarybaker

By Mr. Food; found on our local television station's website. The cilantro should give it a nice bite and I like the idea that it does not use sour cream because then it should keep in the refrigerator without getting watery. I think I will add some thinly sliced celery when I make it this weekend. Prep time includes 20 minutes for chilling potatoes. -- posted by Kat's Mom

Easy Potato Salad With Complete Instructions

A potato salad which is universally enjoyed and really easy to prepare. The dressing is heated prior to blending but it goes really fast and turns out perfect every time. This is a great "beginner's recipe" because I have listed detailed instructions on both how to cook the potatoes and how to boil the eggs to ensure a no-fail experience. I wanted to remark that this makes one of the best potato salads for cold potato salad midnight snack sandwiches. Of course, this is also the perfect covered dish. For lots of smiles, serve this with my Southern Fried Chicken, posted here on Recipezaar. Finally, if you must have sweet pickles in your potato salad, just add 1/2 cup of drained sweet relish at the blending stage. I did not include the 4-hour refrigeration period at the end in the cooking time. Enjoy! -- posted by Bone Man

Cook's Illustrated Make-Ahead Potato Salad for a Crowd

This is a very good potato salad from the folks at America's Test Kitchen. I must confess that I love dill pickles and prefer that flavor to sweet pickle relish. I wound up adding a couple dill pickles and some dill pickle juice to this recipe (just a personal preference) and quite a few more eggs. Here are the tips from Cook's Illustrated: If you only have celery salt available, use the same amount but omit the salt in the dressing. When testing potatoes for doneness taste a piece. If you overcook they will become mealy and break apart. The potatoes must be just warm or even fully cooled when you add the dressing. If you find the potato salad a little dry for your liking, add up to 2 tablespoons more mayonnaise. Serving size is estimated. -- posted by AmyZoe

Tangy, Zesty Oil and Vinegar Potato Salad

The best potato salad you've never had. For when your craving that certain ZING from vinegar...I don't like regular potato salad. I don't like sweet relish, eggs, or miracle whip in my potato salad. The sharp onion with the vinegar balances the soft potato texture. Inexpensive and college budget approved. For more of a bite, add two to three teaspoons of whole grain mustard along with the olive oil. Try this!! Yumm....From Bon Appetit, 2009.

Sweet Savory and Spicy Potato Salad

My friend Tricia made this for a cookout and I fell in love! It is the only potato salad I will make from now on. My husband never eats potato sald. He says "If there is meat around, why waste the time on side dishes?" He ate two HUGE servings of this......it is THAT good! If you cannot find candied jalapenos, just use one small fresh jalapeno (seeded and minced) and a tablespoon of sugar....it is just as good. We love curry, so we add more curry powder. Taste it and customize it to your taste!

This combination is genius and works incredibly well if I do say so myself! Every element of the dish complements the next. One of those things I make sometimes and live off it for days! Crunchy big chunks of refreshing celery set in blue cheese dressing with the sweetness of black grapes to offset both. The potatoes are a great foil to this and prevent it from being too rich. A great dish to serve at buffets or pot luck dinners Its a cheeseboard lovers dream and looks colourful and presentable too -- posted by robd16

Potato/Root Salad With Lima Beans

This recipe was very broadly adapted from the Kingsolver book, Animal Vegetable Miracle. I wanted to create a potato salad without mayonnaise for a picnic, so that any leftovers would keep well enough for future lunches. For potatoes I recommend Yukon Golds, and I recommend that the lima (butter) beans be fresh. Celeriac is also known as celery root. Depending on what is available, turnips would work as well as celeriac. (For the photo, the beans are a mix of lima and cranberry beans.) -- posted by Diann is Cooking

Russian Potato Salad

This salad was first served in Moscow in the 1860s, by Chef Lucien Olivier, and the recipe was a closely guarded secret. It is also called "Salade Olivier", "Russian Salad" or "Sour Russian Potato Salad". This classic dish has many variations. Here's mine.
