Caramel Pretzel

I love pretzels and I had a huge zucchini that my friend gave me. Well I stuffed half of it and still had tons left over. After making zucchini bread I thought to make some sweet caramel pretzels. They taste so good, especially with apple butter. -- posted by Fat Free Queen

Cheddar and Onion Rye Rolls

From the Culinary Institute of America! Here's what they say,"Serve these rolls slightly warmed to bring out the great taste of cheese and onions. Make a double batch of rolls so that you can tuck some away in the freezer. Then you can just grab one or two on your way out the door to enjoy on your drive or at your desk." I hope you enjoy! :) Plan for about 1 hour and 45 minutes rising time. -- posted by Sharon123

Southwestern Sausage Drop Biscuits

These are wonderful served with soups and we especially love them with potato soup and chili's. They are so easy to make, you could also make them to be enjoyed as a snack and I'm often asked to make them when we have oyster roasts and low country boils and invite friends over. You can kick up the level of heat by the amount of cayenne pepper you choose to add. Each recipe makes about 2 dozen small biscuts, so I usually make two recipes...one with the cayenne, and one without. We first tasted these at a little restaurant in Brunswick, Ga. that served them along with their soup and salad bar. I asked for the recipe and the owner wrote it down for me. That was about 8 years ago. The restaurant was bought by someone else a few years later and they stopped serving these little gems. LOL, we haven't been back. -- posted by MarshHen

You can also make these ahead of time and reheat as needed. This one is extremely picky kid-approved. Enjoy!
Sour Cream Biscuits

Do you ever crave homemade biscuits, but it feels like too much effort to prepare them? This recipe is from Betty Crocker's Old-Fashioned Cookbook. Throw in some chives or cheddar cheese for variety, but this only requires baking mix (like Bisquick) and sour cream. I used an Arrowhead Mills Organic Buckwheat Mix because it's what I had, and it made a heartier biscuit (still delicious), but I did need to add a little milk to it because the Buckwheat was so much heavier than white flour. Enjoy! -- posted by AmyZoe

Buttermilk Drop Biscuits

This recipe is from Lodge Cast Iron, and is also featured in Cast-Iron Cooking for Dummies. It's designed to take advantage of a cast iron biscuit pan or a cast iron skillet or griddle. I used the basic recipe last night, and they came out tender and fluffy like a drop biscuit but with the taste of a good ol' buttermilk biscuit. I'll include variations from both sources in my end notes. -- posted by Misa

Marmie's Foolproof White Bread - Cheese and Herbs Optional

I fondly remember making bread with my late mother when I was a child. She made the best bread and cinnamon buns in the world! Each time I make bread to this day I still hear her voice.."you have to knead it untill it squeaks , then you know it will be good!"
Well all her recipes were lost in a fire many years ago and I have devised this recipe, which my children adore. No...sadly I don't often make the dough squeak, but my children would squeal with delight when they would come home from school to warm homemade bread and butter with My strawberry jam! They would always fight for the crust! That makes it all worthwhile.
This is an easy, versatile recipe and almost foolproof. Enjoy.

Note: Prep time does not include the two rising times which would be approx 1 hour each.
Neither the waiting time between oven fulls if you are making buns as they take more room in the oven than 4 loaves of bread. The directions seem lengthy but really they are just really simplified in case you have never made bread before! -- posted by Marmie's

Karen's Best Buttermilk Biscuit

A moist tender bisciut inside, with a golden buttery crunch outside. After much searching for the holy grail of southern cooking, (a great buttermilk biscuit) I developed this recipe that I am very proud of. It is blending of the qualities I wanted in a bisuit. Cruchy, tender, buttermik tang, and hearty enough to stand up to breakfast gravy and moist enough to serve with chicken and dumplings. Enjoy! -- posted by red and white kitchen

Banana Biscuit Scones

I threw this together for quick breakfast one morning using what I had on hand- lots of bananas. It is a basic biscuit recipe with a banana twist. Be sure to mix using a light hand. Top with butter, jam, coconut oil, or your favorite other topping. You can use all milk or buttermilk in place of milk and yogurt. I was just using up the last of my plain yogurt. -- posted by Cooking4TenOfUs

Biscuits for 2 ( or 4 )

As you know most biscuit recipes make anywhere from 8 to 12 biscuits. And some time that's just way too much for two ( or 4 ) people. While I was looking through my treasured 1996 Taste of Home Annual Recipes, I discovered this recipe that was sent into them by Sylvia McCoy of Lees Summit, Missouri. While making this recipe, I did make a couple of changes on the way that they were made. But, I don't think it affected the finished product. For higher biscuits, I double sifted the dry ingredients( I've always done that :) )If you have the above mentioned Cookbook, please check page 191 for the original recipe.I know this seems like alot of steps, but it's really easy. :)Submitted to " ZAAR " on October 6th, 2009 -- posted by shapeweaver ©

Cinnamon-Swirl Pumpkin Rolls

This recipe is from King Arthur Flour and is a delicious fall twist on cinnamon buns. And, they are somewhat healthier because they contain some whole wheat flour (and a vegetable!). The dough is very easy to handle and rises up beautifully. These would also be good with a cream cheese icing.
Dough requires a total of at least 2 1/2 hour rising time (if you use liquid milk instead of dry, you may require slightly longer rising time). You can make the dough the day before. Just let them rise for about 30 minutes, wrap them up, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, let them rise a bit more and warm up, unwrap and then bake. -- posted by blucoat

Tender Sour Cream Sweet Dough

This dough is extremely versatile. You can use it the same day or refrigerate for up to 3 days.It is rich, sweet, tender and easy to work with. I get compliments on it no matter what I use it for - cinnamon buns, filled braids, yeasted coffee cakes, whatever you can imagine. I sometimes use maple extract or orange extract instead of vanilla to match the filling. -- posted by lilsweetie

Dks Buttermilk Biscuits

This is the best biscuit recipe I've ever made. My family loves these. I have frequently substituted 1 Tbsp vinergar and 1 cup milk for the buttermilk with perfect results. The only other change I make is to cut them into 12 square biscuits rather than cut them with a biscuit cutter. It's quicker and saves re-rolling the dough (which makes it tough). This recipe if from my very favorite cookbook "Texas Home Cooking".
Spicy Cheesy Corn Muffins

This is a very easy way to make spicy and cheesy corn muffins that would be great served on their own (as a snack) or with soup. The best thing is that the ingredients are very cheap!! I came up with this while playing around with Jiffy corn muffin mix which costs $0.45 at my grocery store. Sriracha is a chili sauce that you can get at Wal-Mart for a couple of bucks. It's very spicy and will last you a very long time. -- posted by PillsburyPimp

Bed and Breakfast Spiced Pumpkin Scones With Honey Butter

Gorgeous spiced pumpkin scones with honey butter - what a treat for the tea-time table during autumn and winter. I have made these twice now and love the combination of the honey butter with the scones, although they are also delicious with plain unsalted butter. This recipe came from an Australian "Olive" magazine that was sent to me, apparently, Queensland is famous for its blue pumpkins where this recipe originates from - I added the spices as well as the honey butter! A wonderful recipe for the cooler months, but as it uses tinned or frozen pumpkin, these can be made all year around. If you don't want to serve these with the honey butter, just split them whilst warm and spread with normal butter or cream. Mixed spice is a British spice mixture, I have a recipe for this on RZ: Recipe #266688 -- posted by French Tart

Pioneer Woman's Mystery (Blue Cheese) Rolls

I found this recipe on the Pioneer Woman blog site. I have tried several of her recipes and loved them. I have not yet tried this one. Just putting it here for safe-keeping. It looks like she used Pilsbury Golden Layer cans of biscuits. I am guessing at the number of rolls that it makes. It would depend on the brand of biscuits you selected. She states that these freeze well. Just flash freeze them and put them in a Ziploc. Then microwave, from frozen stage, for 13 seconds -- posted by Chef #1107673

I got this in my e-mail from preparedpantry.com. It uses baker's dry milk but you can use regular dry milk. It also calls for dough conditioner (enhancer) which makes the bread lighter and better textured. The mashed potatoes in this recipe may vary in moisture content and that may affect how much water you need to reach the right dough consistency. If your dough is too dry, drizzle in a little water while kneading. If it's too wet, add flour one tablespoon at a time. I'm guessing it makes 12 rolls. -- posted by CJAY

Lighter Chicken and Biscuits (Oamc)

This is a recipe I adapted from Martha Stewart's Everday Food. It is a stovetop version of a classic southern casserole. I am usually suspicious of so called "quick" versions of classics and even more so of "light" adaptations, but this one was right on the money. The texture and flavor are reminiscent of Boston Market chicken pot pie. There is no cream of chicken soup and you can have dinner on the table in about 45 minutes. The original recipe called for whole wheat biscuits, but I made Bisquick biscuits with melted butter generously brushed on top (makes a golden brown crust). This recipe would be delicious with turkey and can be made with cooked chicken or turkey as well. This recipe can easily be doubled for OAMCers as well. -- posted by UrbanDesiMommy
