Meringue Powder Glaze

This recipe is from the May 2001 issue of Creative Home magazine. It's easy to make and gives an impressive glossy finish to sugar cookies. Especially good on Bloomin' Sugar Cookies (recipe #188686). Note: the only place I've found to purchase meringue powder is a specialty cake decorating shop. -- posted by appleydapply

Palmiers

I can't believe that I can make Palmiers!! I used to get one of these every Sunday morning with my coffee at our local bakery, but we've since moved and I haven't found them since. Puff pastry makes it so easy! You can make these and freeze them before baking also. Just slice them, place them on a baking sheet, and pop in a freezer bag once frozen. This comes from Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa. -- posted by hepcat

Walnut Shortbread Cookies

This recipe originally came from the back of a Diamond Walnut package back in the 1970's. I started baking a lot when I was in high school and my taste testers were my dad and my parent's best friends. These were their friend Bud's very favorites so I made them quite a bit. I thought I lost the recipe but after about an hour of searching I found it in a stack of recipes that I had given to my mom. I hope you like them as much as Bud did! -- posted by NVirginian

Traditional Rich Scottish Shortbread Biscuits - Cookies

No Christmas or New Year would be the same without these delightful buttery and crisp shortbread biscuits! Plus, they are extremely easy to make and have very few ingredients. They are not low in calories, but they make a delicious treat at special times of the year. This family recipe is a tried and true, and is based on the Be-Ro cookbook recipe.....a real cookery institution in the UK! Shortbread biscuits can be made in a variety of shapes, including being pressed in a decorative wooden Shortbread Mould; when they are made in a round and cut into triangles, they are called "Petticoat Tails" and are a traditional Scottish wedding biscuit. Whatever the shape you decide to use - I have given a few ideas in the recipe - the taste will remain the same.....meltingly light and buttery. These make ideal gifts, and as they are made with butter, they last for quite a while. Pack them up in an attractive box, tin or cellaphane bag and attach a tartan bow and a sprig of heather for a true Scottish feel to them! Happy Hogmanay! -- posted by French Tart

Simplified Peanut Butter and Chocolate Pinwheels

I found this one on the Better Homes and Gardens website. They turned out a little crackled on top, but still looked nice and tasted great! It was definitely a LOT quicker than mixing up two batches of dough from scratch!

My advice is to use the good quality (not cheapo off brand) cookie dough. I used a tube of Pillsbury Peanut Butter Cookie and a tube of off-brand Sugar Cookie. The sugar cookie dough took a little more effort to mix the cocoa into because of it's harder consistency...actually used my hands instead of the wooden spoon! -- posted by KaDo

Lemon Cookies

I made these lemon cookies for my Christmas cookie tray this year. They are a light a delicate cookie with a texture a bit like shortbread. I cut them into various shapes, including people and made them a bit like 'lemon bread men'. The recipe originally came from the UK TV cook Rachel Allen. I originally posted this trying to convert from grams to ounces and it was too confusing.

This old recipe is from my grandmother's recipe box. I'm not sure where she got it. I do remember eating them at her house during christmas past. My sister and I would use one finger each in the center hole and try and tear the cookie apart kind of like a wishbone. Who ever got the bigger section won and, of course, we each would keep winning and that meant eating more cookies.
Grandma's Shortbread Cookies

This is a recipe for an amazingly dense and rich yet delicate cookie. You can't eat just one. When I make them, they're gone in a sitting and guests, family members and friends love and look forward to these. I can easily eat 10 in a row. The delicate nature is due to the cornstarch which most recipes I've come across do not include. They taste great with coffee and hot cocoa.

This recipe comes from the back of an old box of Benson's Cornstarch. I kept the empty box for years in the hopes of making them one day. I always double the recipe to make about 50 small cookies. -- posted by Kayla in Montreal

Bunneh LOVES these! After he has his treat, he thanks me by licking a hole in my arm, or darned near! You could replace the carrot with apple or pear, but keep in mind these are treats, not a regular diet/food, and should be given sparingly. For a bunny, 1 tablespoon of fruit a day is the maximum you should give your furball. Timothy hay pellets are the best type of pellets, Zupreem the best brand.
Snowflake Cookies

This recipe is from "The Little Book of Christmas Cooking". It is full of these great little recipes designed for kids to do with adults, with easy step by step instructions. - Keep the cookies in an airtight container and eat them within a week. These little cookies look great when you draw different designs on them with regular and sparkly icing. I suggest using those prepackaged tubes of fine point icing for these cookies, but feel free to use any icing you want to. You will need to have something to pipe the cing on with. You will also need a 2 1/2 inch round cookie cutter for this. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Quick Tangy Lemon Icing for Gingerbread Cookies

This is a very easy recipe that only uses a handful of ingredients and tastes wonderful! Lemon and gingerbread are a perfect combination together. This icing also dries hard and shiny, so it is perfect for gingerbread men. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Make sure that you use FRESH lemon juice, not the bottled kind. It will affect the flavor! -- posted by SaddleUp87

This is the recipe that I use for the Cut out frosted butter cookies. This recipe is also in the Best Foods of Christmas cookbook. I always double this recipe so we have plenty of frosting to go around for everyone to decorate. I also divide the frosting into thirds. I'll take one bowl of frosting and add red food coloring to make it pink and add peppermint extract. In another bowl of frosting I'll add green food coloring for green frosting. In the other bowl of frosting I keep it white for white frosting.
