Basic Tomato Sauce

This is the base sauce I make in large quantity and then freeze. I often add things to the defrosted portions before use, and I also use it in various dishes, like lasagna. I created it myself. spices can be varied to desired taste. I often swap the sage listed here for rosemary. -- posted by Khyricat

Green Pork Chili

A colleague of mine brought this in years ago for a soup potluck lunch and I fell in love with it. I love big batches of soup to freeze (especially when I was single and just wanted to come home to a good dinner...) and this one is perfect. I've also added beans, potatoes, carrots, celery and whatever else looked like it needed to be used up. Nowadays I don't usually add the jalapenos (daughter doesn't like heat...so sad....)...but love having this to warm things up. You can make it soup-like or more stew like depending upon your preference by adding more broth. -- posted by DeeCooks

Tuna Salad

This is my husband's recipe. It is so simple and so delicious that I had to share it with you! I have added some optional instructions at the end. I have not tried the optional ingredients myself, but they sound like they would be very good. Try it and please let me know. I would appreciate the feedback. I have made this as a sandwich on buttered wheat bread with american cheese, alf alpha sprouts and sunflower seeds. Delicious!!! Enjoy!! -- posted by Stephanie Rybak

I decided to experiment with what I had in the fridge and came up with this mixture. It's great on chicken, pork, beef, even veggies!
Zurie's Tomato and Cream Cheese Tart

I'd like to dedicate this recipe to Molly53. When I could not find a tomato tart or pie on Zaar with cream cheese as a basis, she went to the trouble of converting a recipe and posting it for me in RR, which is really going to a lot of trouble! Thank you, Molly53!! This is not that tart, but in the end I put this together, and my severest critic, my husband, said the tart was fine. At the time of my request in RR I had lots of small plum tomatoes which in the heat became too overripe for salad but I could not bear to throw them out. I had a large chunk left of my favourite pastry, recipe #197151, which had to be used, but I confess that I don't know how much I used for this pie.... The amount given is a guess. The taste is clean; I did not want to use mayo. Prep time does not include making the pastry. -- posted by Zurie

Amazing Cabbage (You'll Want to Eat a Whole One)

This is a Jamie Oliver's idea so I can't take credit for it, as much as I'd like to. Don't be put off by the anchovies in the butter, it doesn't taste fishy and you can't detect them at all. In fact, you can't really detect the rosemary or garlic much either for that matter. They act more like a seasoning as opposed to a flavouring and I promise you this is seriously the best cabbage you'll ever eat! Cook the cabbage as described and adapt the recipe to make as much or as little of the butter as you like, the rest can be stored in the freezer for those 'gotta have my cabbage' moments. Ha ha, you say that now. . . . -- posted by robd16

Dress It Up: Deviled Eggs

It's not even Easter, but I boiled a bunch of eggs so I had an excuse to prepare another one of my favorite naughty foods--deviled eggs. This is a simple recipe, but very good. I have to confess, I never bother with a piping bag because deviled eggs never last long enough for me to look at. I don't have the patience to make them pretty--I just want to eat them. It's kind of like, why bother making the bed when I'm just going to get back in it?
Slow-Roasted Two-Temp Garlic Chicken

This is a great, easy roast chicken that has a crispy skin and tastes incredible! Sometimes, if I have the time, I brine the bird first, use your favorite brine recipe for that. Please use Kosher salt, there IS a big difference. Also, watch your broth, I found that I have to add about another cup so the bird doesn't dry out. I have also added the garlic to mashed potatoes rather than serving the garlic heads with the chicken. Either way, this chicken is a real winner!
Fabulous Fajitas

This recipe is based on wonderful fajitas served at a small authentic Tex-Mex restaurant near where I used to live. I have used this with both chicken and steak, flank steak or skirt steak, and it works great. I also mix a batch of the dry spices together and use a tablespoon or so when I make fajitas. The red onions, while not traditional, add a nice color to the fajitaas, but sweet yellow onions are more traditional. Note that the preparation time listed includes time to marinate. -- posted by UrbanDesiMommy

Warming Celery & Carrot Soup

A smooth and creamy soup with just a little "bite" for those colder days. Cooked in a microwave with not too much labour input beyond preparation of the veg.

The basic recipe was a favourite from our old Sanyo microwave cookbook from more than twenty years ago.

Note:
For more or less "bite", add or take away one tablespoon of the Love Apple Sauce as you desire.
If Love Apple sauce is not available a substitute can be made by combining 1 tbsp Tomato Ketchup with 1 tsp Jerk Sauce. -- posted by Schemin Demon

i made this from leftover roast chicken and leftover leek and potatoe soup (vegan), so my measurements are an estimate really, but use your initiative if it needs more water add more etc etc. intermediate cooks will get the idea, also you can add a dash of wine or lemon juice would be nice in this.
Slow Cooker Big Beef Stew

I took this out of the Fix It and Forget it Cookbook. Although, I did make a few changes. I liked this stew because of the peppers in it. I felt this was a little different than the traditional beef stew.
You may want to add a little more salt and pepper while the stew is cooking to suit your own tastes.
I served this over buttered parsley noodles.
I hope you enjoy this as much as we did. -- posted by Bellablue

Gourmet Cabbage Butter - Transform Your Greens!

This recipe is for a flavoured butter that turns the humble cabbage into a gourmet delight! Seriously, you'll be fighting over the last piece and you'll make sure that you cook double the next time I promise! This is by far the best way to serve cabbage, it is unbelievably good. The recipe is for 250g butter, you can store the rest in the freezer or adjust quantities to suit. The anchovies do not impart a fishy flavour at all and act more like a seasoning, as do the other ingredients. It's hard to put your finger on what the flavour really is, except damn good greens! Serving size is for the whole amount of butter and not for 1 cabbage. You must cook the cabbage according to the instructions set out below. Amazing. -- posted by robd16

Granite City Inspired Meatloaf Recipe

I found this online and wanted to post it here. I just cooked it last night and it came out delicious. I served it with Bourbon Barbecue Sauce recipe #48289 and Mashed Red Potatoes With Garlic And Parmesan recipe #34382. My boyfriend loves Granite City's meatloaf and we really wanted to recreate it. He actually said this was better than GC's. Only thing missing was the onion straws. This is what the original poster said about the recipe "This is my 2nd attempt at copying the Granite City meatloaf. It is not quite right, but I think a substantial part of it is close. The end flavor is certainly in the ballpark." -- posted by Chef #965467
