Authentic Cypriot Taverna Brandy Sour Cocktail

These were without doubt the most popular drink that we served in the restaurant I ran in Cyprus! They are known as the National Drink of Cyprus, and are delicious as well as being very refreshing. We used to make these with the local Cypriot brandy, which is not as strong as normal French brandy or cognac and has a delectable caramel taste to it. We also used the local angostura bitters, known as "Cock Drops", which as you can imagine, brought raised eyebrows and howls of laughter from overseas guests and tourists! A little history behind the cocktail: The Cypriot Brandy Sour style was developed following the introduction of the first blended brandy made on Cyprus, by the Haggipavlu family, in the early 1930s. The cocktail was developed at the Forest Park Hotel, in the hill-resort of Plátres in the beautiful Troodos Mountain range, for the young King Farouk of Egypt, who often stayed at the hotel during his frequent visits to the island. The Brandy Sour was introduced as an alcoholic substitute for iced tea, as a way of disguising the Muslim monarch's preference for Western-style cocktails. The drink subsequently spread to other bars and hotels in the fasionable Platres area, before making its way to the coastal resorts of Limassol, Paphos and Kyrenia, and the capital Nicosia. With increasing numbers of tourists visiting the island in the last thirty years, and the large garrison of British servicemen stationed on the island, the Cypriot Brandy Sour is now known around the world. This is how we used to make them in our restaurant - a trade secet shared!! -- posted by French Tart

Hooch Party Punch (Fruity Rum Booze-Cruise Type Concoction)

This is a terrific recipe for "hooch" party punch. This drink is reminiscent of something you'd have on a booze-cruise in the Islands or something. It's fruity and contains rum and what could ever go wrong with that??? This recipe is great for large crowds or a summer party, picnic or BBQ as it makes a good amount. This recipe is compliments of my dear Sister-in-Law who serves it in one of those big orange Gatorade jugs with a spigot at every summer gathering - think they also whip up a batch to bring out on the boat too... It's good stuff, I'll say that! ** Note: you may see white flaky tiny specs in the punch from the Coco Lopez - that is normal ** Also, you MUST use Sailor Jerry's Spiced Navy Rum, it's what makes it. Sailor Jerry's is a 92-proof blend of Caribbean-style rum with hints of vanilla, lime, cherry, cloves, cinnamon and other spices." You must also use Goya brand nectars as listed below. Enjoy!! :-) -- posted by BlondieItaliana

Starburst (Cocktail)

If you want to make a refreshing cocktail by the pitcher ... try this one. It is a combination of my Recipe #299834 as the base, then adding a tad more Citron Vodka and some juice.
Blonde Sangria

When I lived in Spain and we had "office parties" I was always asked to bring the Sangria. While most Sangria is made with red wine, I like white better - we had one called Diamante, mmm. After tweaking the recipe each time, I think it's a really good one now.
Kurdish Lemonade

For best results you will need Omani Lemons which are in fact sun dried limes. In Persian the same name is used for limes and lemons (limoo). Lemon would be called "limoo zard" (yellow lime). So when they translate, they call both limes and lemons "lemon". It is known to Persians that when you say "dried lemons" in English, you really mean "sun dried limes." you can get them at most Middle Eastern/Turkish store. -- posted by Stacia_

Crystal Clear Punch With Fruit Cubes

Delectable for any occasion. This punch is clear, light, and refreshing. Feel free to add a clear liquor of your choice for an adults only version (such as white wine, mandarin vodka, or even champagne). Yields about 36 (3-oz) servings. The frozen fruit is an estimated amout, you should make at least 40 cubes for the punchbowl. You can also make individual clear drinks/beverages, using the fruit cubes as needed. :) NOTE: for the fruit cubes, you can also use 3 (15 oz) cans Fruit cocktail (syrup and all) -- posted by 2Bleu

Holiday Wassail With Alcohol

This is the most amazing tasting Wassail. It's perfect for a holiday party or a cold winter night. It’s like drinking hot apple pie that warms your tummy and lifts your spirits. Although it’s a big undertaking to cook, you won’t be disappointed, especially when everyone is complimenting you on making something that tastes so delicious. Make sure you serve it warm. Because this takes a while to put together, I usually make it the night before and pour the mixture into bottles/containers so I can transport it easily. I guessed at the number of servings but its always been enough for the parties I've been to where there have been 25 or more people. -- posted by LexiGirl 2

Prohibition Classic Cocktail

You can add some soda to this if you need to, but this is no bathtub cocktail! During Prohibition you cannot waste your time drinking a lighter drink. Lillet is a blend of rigorously selected wines and fruit liqueurs, aged in oak vats for around 12 months. Lillet Blanc has a golden color with candied orange, honey, pine resin, lime and fresh mint aromas.
Ruby Relaxer - Ruby Tuesday Copycat

This light and fruity drink is perfect for sipping on a summer afternoon. An undeniable girly drink (not to say that guys should not enjoy it as well), it has no taste of alcohol, nor the cloying aftertaste that some overly sweet drinks have. This recipe can easily be multiplied to make a crowd-pleasing punch for your next shower, party, brunch, etc. The brands listed are those that Ruby Tuesday lists on their drink menu (how nice of them to tell us what is in their drink so that we can come home and make it ourselves!) -- posted by Oenophilly

Sardo Punch

Mirto means myrtle in English. The myrtle bush has small pointy leaves, and dark berries similar to wild huckleberries.I don't know exactly what's in mirto, I think that the term is used interchangably for foods flavored with the leaves or the berries. From Healthy Italian Hors d’Oeuvres published in the October 2008 edition of F&W Magazine. They say that Amaro means bitter in Italian & the quintessential after dinner cordial ;) so a punch made with it can't be bad. Saw this recipe and am putting it here for safekeeping. Watch out it can be lethal!!! -- posted by Manami

Tropical Passion Rum Punch

This recipe came about one day when we had an interesting juice in the house, a great thirst and a desire for something a little different.
This is definitely not for the kids.
The name came from the location...we live in Jamaica (Tropical), and the colour...sort of a purple which comes from the pink of the Juice and the blue in the curacao (Purple passion) and the possible outcome....
This is a no fooling around Rum Punch..approach with caution and enjoy.

Please note: I used Guava-Pineapple Juice which has a pink colour, but any combination of tropical juices Mango with Pineapple etc. will work. The pineapple seems to be key. I use Appleton's Rum because it is Jamaican and great Rum. -- posted by Donalda

This is a very simple, quick recipe that I put together with what I happened to have available. The result is quite tasty!
White Sangria

Fresh, sweet and fruity - goes well with tapas or as a light cocktail, I even drink it with paella! Slightly different from the traditional one which calls for red wine, but I just can't drink red wine when it's too hot outside, so I tried with white wine and it turned out just as great.
Feel free to sub any other type of fruit according to season or taste, and where possible use liqueurs that match. -- posted by AdriMicina
