Sensational Strawberry Summer Trifle

This is great for you guys that have a summer Christmas here in the Southern hemisphere, or anyone else anywhere on the globe! We use to make the traditional trifle with jelly each year, but after I made this one year, we stuck with it! The recipe was originally from the BBC Good Food magazine, but I've made my own variation... -- posted by babettesfeast

Mutti's Mousse

This is the mousse recipe my grandmother (Mutti) would make. It's excellent as a mousse or even as a pie filler. Just pour it into a pre-cooked pie crust for an amazing chocolate pie.

The original recipe calls for rum, but I prefer to use 1-2 tablespoons of vanilla extract instead.

Better chocolate yields better results, so buy your favorite or chop up a quality bar of chocolate rather than using the cheap stuff (unless the cheap stuff IS the good stuff!). Also, you can mix dark and semi-sweet for a richer, darker mousse.

After making this recipe many times I find that it pays to have everything ready to go rather than strictly moving from step to step. If you can manage without burning the milk, whip the cream while waiting for milk to boil (and for the ice to melt in the blender if you need more time). If you don't do it all serially, this takes very little time and effort to make for how well received it always is! -- posted by Chef #750804

Bread Pudding Thanksgiving

This recipe is from the www.allrecipes.com website. SUBMITTED BY: Mariah

"My husband's grandmother, Nonnie, used to make her really unique version of Persimmon Pudding every Thanksgiving. When she wasn't able to make it anymore, my husband asked if I would take over. I did, and am now required to bring this to every fall family gathering! You can serve this warm or let it cool - my family loves it both ways." -- posted by senseicheryl

Dutch Baby (Giant Baked Pancake)

These look and taste absolutely heavenly! It's great if you have guests or larger gatherings for breakfast or brunch as each pancake has 4-6 servings and, since it is baked, requires less work than regular pancakes. This delicious and impressive-looking recipe is from Sarah Kate, of "The Kitchn". It was a Christmas breakfast tradition in her family. It's also sometimes called a German Pancake and is quite similar to Yorkshire Pudding. If you want a sweeter recipe, increase the sugar to 3 tablespoons and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Batter needs to sit for a half-hour before baking. -- posted by blucoat

Chocolate-Brandy Bread Pudding With Cinnamon Whipped Cream

Another chocolate bread pudding to add to my collection. Made it for Thanksgiving dessert and it was a huge hit. The best thing is that cinnamon whipped cream tastes great with pumpkin and apple pie too! This one is not quite as decadent as the dark chocolate version I have posted.
Choc Cherry Christmas Puddings (Vegan, Wheat Free)

You will not find a yummier chocolate dessert let alone one that is vegan and wheat free with no added fat or oil. I sell these to a local health food store. They are magnificient straight out the oven and also reheated for 20sec in the microwave once cooled. Alternatively they double as a cold brownie type treat which is equally delicious. The result of this recipe depends highly on using a good quality dark chocolate. I reccommend a 70% cocoa blend and chop it by hand or a food processor. -- posted by canthelpmyself

Day After Christmas Cranberry & Nut Breakfast

This would be yummy for any day but it is Christmas inspired because I made it on Boxing Day morning out of leftovers I had floating around from Christmas day. Plus, after eating so much the day before it was kind of nice to start the next day with a healthy breakfast. If you use Splenda instead of sugar this is pretty diabetic friendly too. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Raspberry Coconut Trifle

This recipe was supposed to be a cake, but after slicing my finger trying to cut the cake into three layers, I said to heck with this! The cake was turned into a more traditional trifle. We had it for dessert at Christmas dinner and it was a huge hit! Just one word of advice: Start this dessert the day before as it takes quite a while for the custard to thicken. I am including the chilling time in the cooking time. -- posted by Irmgard

Triple Chocolate Mousse Pie

For chocolate lover's only! Got this recipe last week after having this at a friends Christmas Party... First of all, it's HEAVENLY. Everyone kept talking about this pie & with word of mouth, it was gone before most could try it... I got to try it & it is delicious! I didn't even think I was that into chocolate, but this is very creamy & looked so pretty on the Holiday dessert table as it was garnished with puffs of whipped cream, drizzled with chocolate, topped with red cherries & green sprinkles... totally decadent!
FYI: you can make pie crumb crust ahead of time & freeze or in a pinch use a store bought chocolate crumb Oreo pie shell... -- posted by BlondieItaliana

The fat is in the sauce, which is why it's drizzled on the cake sparingly.
My favorite WW recipe and it's "0" points. If you like pumpkin pie you will love this recipe. Stick to the serving size of 1/2 cup though because this is very high fiber if you know what I mean. The best part is, it's so simple to make! -- posted by Isiscakes

Instant Chocolate Mousse

If you're looking for a sweet surprise for your Valentine, or just because, this will fit the bill! This can be made the day of, but encourage you to not make it any earlier. This is a fantastic dessert! It only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish! Go for it! Try a small chocolate bowl that you can get at specialty stores and most bakeries. They also have small chocolate cups, which works great as well.If you can't find the bowls or cups, try putting it in a pretty wine glass or a martini glass. -- posted by FLUFFSTER

Spicy Pumpkin Flan (Healthy Alternative to Pie)

I've made this recipe very spicy and flavourful to my tastes. Tinker around with adjustments to the spices to your liking, though I recommend leaving equal if not more ginger than cinnamon and then lessening cloves and allspice to your taste (reduce allspice before you reduce cloves for a better balance).

Also, you can lighly spray cooking oil into the cake pan before you add the caramel (perhaps more on the sides than the bottom, because caramel will make it slippery on bottom). This will help you as you are trying to separate flan from pan with a spatula when cooked. -- posted by GoldsmithLissa

This is a "must have" on our Christmas dessert table, but it is equally as good any time of year, or for any occasion. Although I use berries, it is wonderful with all different fresh fruits, such as kiwi or peaches. It is also very versatile and can be layered with fruit in a parfait dish if you prefer, nestled in a puff pastry or dessert shell, or set in a mold. We always serve it in one large stemmed glass bowl.
'stir and Make a Wish' Christmas Pudding

A fruity christmas pudding that is not too rich or heavy. I have been making this recipe year after year. Traditionally the pudding should be made on 'Stir up sunday' which is the suday before Advent ( sometime at the end of November). Everyone in the house should stir the pudding and make a wish.
This recipe is enough to make 2 puddings of 2 liters, of course you can half the recipe but I love giving one away as a gift. Start 3-4 days before because the fruits need soaking to soften. -- posted by Wild Thyme Flour

Lemon Verbena Syllabub for Lazy Summer Days or Dinner Parties!

Just the job when it is hot and humid, a simple and elegant dessert to finish off a special summer dinner party outside and under the stars! This is also a wonderful accompaniment for fresh summer berries or gently poached fruits. Try to make sure that you give these little syllabubs plenty of time to chill and set before serving. Serve with a squirt of Chantilly cream and some fresh Lemon Verbena leaves as a garnish. Lemon Verbena is a very lemony herb, think of fizzy lemon sherbet (as in Barratt’s Sherbet Dipper) and you will have an idea of the taste! -- posted by French Tart

Bergamot Fresh Fruit Salad With Scented Pelargonium Leaves

This fruit salad is amazing, and all the more for the addition of bergamot leaves and flowers! The fragrant leaves of this versatile herb delicately flavour the syrup whilst the gorgeous shaggy red flowers and scented pelargonium leaves decorate it for the final finishing flourish! If you are a lover of Earl Gray tea, you will instantly recognise the flavour of this herb, as it is used to flavour this famous and popular tea blend.
NOTE: Bergamot, often referred to as bee balm, became distinguished as "Oswego Tea" when a Quaker botanist, John Bartram, sampled a tea made from the leaves. A Bergamot lemon is a small yellow sour citrus fruit similar to an orange, mostly cultivated in Calabria in Italy. The rind contains an essential oil used in perfumery (the basis for eau-de-cologne), confectionary and Earl Grey tea. The zest is also used in pâtisserie. NB: Prep time includes cooling time. -- posted by French Tart

Fresh Peaches in Sauternes Soak With Angelica and Lavender

This is a wonderful, light summery dessert, which never fails to please my guests, as well as my family and friends! Fresh peaches are soaked in sweet Sauternes with angelica leaves and lavender flowers tucked amongst them. Angelica is an interesting, aromatic tasting herb, and although I normally only use the stems to candy or crystallise (Recipe #248003) I have discovered that the leaves also make a great accompaniment when used with fresh fruit. Try to serve this fresh fruit salad in a large clear glass bowl for maximum impact; it just looks so pretty with the light shining through the fruit, juices and herbs! I find that the only thing that is needed to serve this is a good dollop of crème fraiche. I have also made this with apricots and melon for a slight change. I like to use a combination of white and yellow peaches for this recipe – but please use local and fresh peaches regional to your area. Prep time includes the minimum "soaking" time. I have not tried this with tinned peaches, but suspect that they may be too "soft" to hold their shape for prolonged soaking. -- posted by French Tart

This is a Lebanese recipe, but it's enjoyed through out the middle east.
Its a nice mix between a semolina pudding and a creamy topping. Most people top with nuts, but I like it better with toasted coconut.
Peachy Fresh Fruit Salad With a Flourish of Angelica and Mint!

This was the first thing I was taught to make at secondary school in Domestic Science! We were all taught to make basic lemon syrup for the fruit salad, a great classic and a standard recipe that I have never forgotten! However, here I have deviated a little and have taken advantage of some excellent local peach syrup instead of the homemade lemon syrup I usually make; and I have garnished the salad with mint and angelica from my herb garden. I have suggested certain fruits to use, but the beauty of a fresh fruit salad is that you can always rustle one up with whatever you have locally and to hand. Serve with fresh pouring cream for a real treat! -- posted by French Tart

Creamy Pumpkin Rice Pudding

Even though the phrase "leftover pumpkin" doesn't exist in my household, most people often wonder what to do with the leftover pumpkin after making a pumpkin pie. I like to make this tasty, simple, and quick dessert when I have a huge can of pumpkin I haven't completely gone through. Whole milk and cinnamon rice milk really work best for this recipe, but some tasty variations that really add to this pudding's richness are vanilla rice or soy milk, and Silk Pumpkin Pie flavored soy milk (which is only seasonal, I wish it was available year-round! And is it just me or does Silk Pumpkin Pie Soymilk taste just like Silk Nog that's available around Christmas, only they package it differently? So if you're making it around Christmas, use Silk Nog!) This awesome dessert is great for parties and potlucks,
it travels and freezes well, and was a big hit at my sister's Halloween party! Both the kids and adults loved it. (Note: Prep time does not include cooling time.) -- posted by the80srule

Sensational Rice Custard Pudding

This is a very old recipe that was my husband's grandmother's own creation. She was well known for her cooking and baking. I have been making this for over 40 years and always get raving reviews. Once, a cousin gifted me with a very large glass bowl that had 8 smaller serving dishes. She included a note that this was to become 'the family dinners rice custard pudding bowl' as everyone requested that I make it for all our gatherings! For a creamier custard pudding, use Aborio rice or a medium grain rice; I prefer the short Aborio rice. Never use instant rice.

You may wish to use less sugar as this is a very sweet custard pudding, due to the condensed milk. I hope this becomes a favorite of your family too! -- posted by Debaylady

Spooktacular Halloween Pudding Cups

Super fun Halloween treats that the kids are sure to enjoy. Easy to make and look great to!! I got the idea off of another website that used chocolate pudding but I thought using vanilla and dying it orange would be really cool since the pudding and oreos together would be traditional Halloween colors. This recipe can be easily divided in half and so on. For the pudding I used the kind that you cook verses the instant. I think the cooked pudding has a much nicer and thicker consistancy. The amount below for the oreos is a guesstimate because it wouldn't let me put down 1 large package of oreos but either way just one regular package of oreos crushed is what you need. Enjoy! -- posted by mamawheezy

Christmas Plum Pudding

I grew up eating plum pudding at Christmas. We used to scour three states to buy the canned stuff before it got sold out. Then I was given this recipe by a friend, and commercial plum pudding has not crossed my lips again. It is well worth the time it takes to gather the ingredients and make the pudding. -- posted by cookcathy

Christmas Pudding- Gluten-Free

A recipe from Dr Sue Shepherd's cookbook "The Gluten-free Kitchen". Just lover her recipes. SUe Shepherd is an Advanced Accredited Practicing Dietician who herslef has Coeliac/Celiac Disease. She is recognised and works with the Australian Coeliac Society.
I think you could swap a bean flour with the soy flour if you need to
Preparation time does not include overnight maceration of the dried fruits -- posted by **Jubes**

Pumpkin Pudding With Candied Ginger Whipped Cream

I love to add some port or dark spiced rum (Zacapa or Zaya), to the pudding and/or the topping!

Serve with a tawny port such as my favourite Taylor Fladgate 20-year or a higher-end sipping rum such as Zacapa or Zaya.

The pudding can be made up to a few days in advance, but wait to mix the topping until you're ready to serve. -- posted by GoldsmithLissa
