Banana Trifle

Very simple banana trifle that I've made several times now, my own recipe. No chocolate, no "extra" flavors (I mean you, toffee!).

As given it doesn't make a huge amount, but it's very easy to scale it up for a crowd or down for a single serving. Best made the day before. The time given does not include time for the cake to bake.

For the cake, feel free to use your favorite mix; it'll need about half, as written. The cake needs to be dry, to properly soak up the liquid. Either bake it and slice it the day before, or toast it (sliced) in the oven on low heat for about an hour. Or just use stale cake if you've got any lying around.

You could probably make it with other fruit (raspberries? mangos?) but I haven't tried. If you want a slightly more complex tropical flavor, replace part of the yogurt with coconut milk/cream, or add toasted coconut with the cake. -- posted by Jaeger5432

Pina Colada Bread Pudding

I love crockpot cooking & have posted 2 other recipes today I thought were special. This is the last & looks so good to me, but I'll probably never be able to make it here in Iceland for lack of the pina colada drink mix I've never seen. This would surely be for a special occasion & the directions look a little labor intensive to me, but I hope someone not intimidated, but equally intrigued will try this just so I'll know whether it's truly as good as it appears it should be. Prep time was a pure guess & did not include cooking time.

NOTE: Despite several tries, I wasn't able to correct or delete the word powdered from the drink mix ingredient. This is a frozen liquid. -- posted by twissis

Banoffee Bread and Butter Pudding

This is one of the easiest and most deliciously, toffeeish and satisfying puddings i have ever made. It goes well with ice-cream, custard etc. We had it once when out for a meal when on holiday and my bf said it was the best pudding he had ever had. I came across it in a ready, steady cook recipe book. I have succesfully substituted the dairy products for soya products in the past also. -- posted by boozysoozy

Diabetic White Chocolate Banana Pudding

I found this while searching for recipes to use up half a bag of white chocolate chips I had on hand. I wanted something a little special that was company worthy, but simple enough to do for any old time. This surely did fit the bill on all the criteria need to be filled and you'll never guess where I found it...Food Network's BEHIND THE BASH! Yes, I know..shocked the devil out of me too! Who know fancy food could be oh so easy! I did modify it to make it a more diabetic friendly dish. Keep in mind it's still very sweet and the carbs and fat need to be accounted in your diet. White chocolate chips are pretty much pure sugar. This recipe should be used for ultra special occasions. Don't forget about the sugar in bananas too. Like I said, this is a SPECIAL OCCASION kinda dish. Enjoy it, but keep in mind your dietary needs and limits. -- posted by Redneck Epicurean

Creamy Layered Banana-Blueberry Dessert

This is the most *heavenly* banana dessert! Because of the bananas this is best served the same day it is made. The cream filling can be cooked on top of the stove but to avoid scortching the saucepan I like to cook it in the microwave. Plan ahead the filling needs to chill for 4 hours, prep time includes chilling time. For a less sweeter whipped cream you can reduce or omit the powdered sugar. -- posted by KITTENCAL

Raw Food: Lemon Pudding (Banana Base)

Delicious pudding in minutes, with all natural ingredients! I just started looking into the Raw Food Movement, but I've been trying to avoid highly processed foods for a while now. Standard pudding is on of the worst offenders, where processed foods are concerned. Raw Foodists make pudding using bananas or avocados for base. I've tried both, but I prefer the banana "puddings." -- posted by MissLinguist

I found this interesting delight on the internet and thought it sounded (and looked) delicious! This unique dessert is from Chef Jacques Torres of Le Cirque 2000 in New York City and I found it on fabulousfoods.com. I estimated the times as I haven't made this one yet and am not sure exactly how long or how many it will make - that depends on the size of your bowls. Chill time included in prep/cook times average. -- posted by Mommy Diva

Typsy Laird - Scottish Drambuie Trifle for a Burns Night Supper

This Scottish trifle is traditionally served at Burns Night Suppers or at New Year. Typsy Laird got its name because the alcoholic ingredients would make the diners slightly drunk!! Though in reality there is little alcohol in the trifle and the typsy or tipsy effect is due to the "wee drams" of whisky drunk during toasts or throughout the evenings entertainment!
Some Scottish trifle recipes will substitute the toasted almonds with crushed amaretti biscuits, and the bananas are also a less traditional but optional ingredient. -- posted by French Tart

Fudge Banana Pudding

Another fabulous SL recipe for chocolate and banana lovers. It is delicious warm or cold. I have made this many times and it never fails to please everyone! I have estimated the time to make it- sounds like a lot of steps, but it goes together really quickly and best of all....it is foolproof! Make sure you use a big enough bowl since it makes quite a lot, especially if you decide to add extra bananas. I also guessed at the # of servings since it really depends on how much you "dish out" for each person. -- posted by golfergirlj

Tropical Fruit Trifle

This recipe was conceived from the "ashes of failure." I made Mark H's Coconut Pound Cake, Recipe #17617, but due to my error, I absolutely stuck to the bundt pan and came out in chunks. After I tasted the cake, it was too delicious to even consider trashing, so I came up with this instead. I suppose you could use any tropical fruit, I just used what I had on hand. Amount of fruit and cake you will need will depend on your bowl. I have a very deep trifle bowl (see pic). -- posted by SweetSueAl

Grandma Rene's Old-Fashioned Banana Pudding

This was the way my mom made banana pudding. You'll find no vanilla pudding mix in this! It's all homemade and with love. I used a saucepan on the stove to cook the custard, but you have to constantly stir it to keep it from scalding on the bottom because it needs to come to a boil (bubble) to thicken. If you're not comfortable doing that, try using a double-boiler. But it must bubble. For extra zip in the custard, add 1/4 tsp. of lemon oil or 1 tablespoon of lemon zest.
The meringue is simple and delicious. If you want a mile-high meringue, use 6 eggs whites (any leftovers in the freezer? Take 'em out!) and 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar and a pinch of salt.

Eggs are easier to separate when they're cold. So do so, and let them come to room temp before using.

Bananas are best if they're ripe and sweet. Don't get any that are green. If yours are green, wait for them to ripen (putting them in a brown paper bag will speed the process). Don't worry about having too many bananas....it's great piled high with all the ingredients!

Best served warm, but good either way. Zap in microwave if you have kept it in the refrigerator for hot banana pudding! This is one of my favorite comfort foods! -- posted by Citruholic

Peachy Fresh Fruit Salad With a Flourish of Angelica and Mint!

This was the first thing I was taught to make at secondary school in Domestic Science! We were all taught to make basic lemon syrup for the fruit salad, a great classic and a standard recipe that I have never forgotten! However, here I have deviated a little and have taken advantage of some excellent local peach syrup instead of the homemade lemon syrup I usually make; and I have garnished the salad with mint and angelica from my herb garden. I have suggested certain fruits to use, but the beauty of a fresh fruit salad is that you can always rustle one up with whatever you have locally and to hand. Serve with fresh pouring cream for a real treat! -- posted by French Tart

VERY healthy dessert or breakfast. This is the kind of recipe where you like it or you don't... if you do, you're in for a treat (there'd no guilt, it'ts even good for you!!!). The texture is slightly fibrous, due to the quinoa. Can be served warm or cold, l prefer mine partially frozen (I place them in individual cups, then freeze for an hour). Adjust spices to your taste. You can sub the milk for soymilk (if using vanilla flavoured, omit sugar and vanilla from ingredients). -- posted by Génial Génie
