Split Seconds

This is an interesting dessert. I am not sure if you'd call them cookies, cakes or bars but they would be lovely with tea or coffee. They are delicious jam filled sweet treats. I found these in an old cook book and am not sure where the name comes in :) -- posted by Karen=^..^=

Idaho Spudnuts (doughnuts)

Most peaple think this is the best thing we do with our Idaho potatoes! You can't resist these light, fluffy, yummy treats!! Prep time includes time for rising. Fry a few at a time for about 2-3 minutes per side. An electric skillet works well to fry them. -- posted by MizzNezz

Best Vegetarian Pot Stickers

If you like Chinese dumplings, these vegetarian pot stickers will blow your mind!! They are very easy to make (contrary to what people may think) and dumpling skins are available even in Western supermarket now. This recipe should use up one package of round dumpling skin and enough to serve a big crowd as appetizers. You can make these dumplings way ahead of time and defrost and pan-fry them just before serving. A recipe by Ming Tsai. -- posted by Izzy Knight

Spiced Vanilla Pecans

I can barely keep a pecan in this house, the minute anyone in my family smells that I have brought home pecans they go after it with their built-in pecan detectors. However, if I announce that I am making these spiced vanilla pecans they actually manage to restrain themselves, but barely, until the pecans are ready, and then they fall upon them like a pack of dogs. These are great for parties, although no matter how much you make they will never be enough. You should start making them the day before you plan to serve them. Prep time includes wait time. -- posted by Mirj

Glazed Doughnuts

This is the recipe my MIL made when I was a child. My SIL, who was a friend from my childhood as well, used to bring these to school for her birthday treats. Our classes always looked forward to 'her' birthday each year! One year I had the privlege of being asked to walk home with her during lunch to help carry them back for the afternoon milk break and birthday treats. Her mom, my future MIL, threw in an extra and said it was for me as a reward for coming with Trudy to help carry them back. After we returned to school, Trudy 'found' someone else she decided she wanted to be her new 'best friend' and decided that she was going to give 'my donut' to 'that' friend instead of me...needless to say, there was no way I was going to let her get away with 'that'! I am sharing this recipe as a result of a request on the boards. This is still the best homemade doughnut recipe that I've come across and I've tried quite a few of them, but always return to this one! Hope you enjoy it as much as my family does... :-)) I've never timed any of the process of making these, so I really don't have a clue. My family also likes to have me cook the center cut-outs as little doughnut balls too. The amount you will get from this recipe will depend on the size of the doughnut cutter(s) you use (I have several sizes). I've never counted; my family begins digging in as soon as they start coming out of the hot grease. I do know that this recipe makes a lot of doughnuts! My MIL has made them for years for the annual family reunion potluck. -- posted by Cindy Lynn

Lorraine's Luscious and Lovely Limoncello

My friend Lorraine B gave me this wonderful recipe when I was looking for an interesting hostess gift. One of the best things about this recipe is that it only takes one week to infuse, as opposed to up to a month that I've seen in other recipes. I actually made a quadruple recipe and got 6 bottles to give as gifts (I kept one for myself, of course!). At last night's preliminary tasting (2 hours after bottling) I can tell you that this is a very refreshing tipple!
Kuure-ed Chicken (A Yooper-Inspired Recipe)

A lot of you don't know it, but Yooper and I are diet buddies. We were chatting on the phone one Friday morning and he told me how he admired my talent of just "coming up" with a recipe off the top of my head. That morning, with Yoop's words echoing in my head, I created this curried chicken recipe. And guess what, Yooper? It's legal for Somersizing. Non-Sommersizers can serve this with some Basmati rice. Mark, I return the compliment by naming this dish after you!
Norwegian Potato Doughnuts

When I was a little girl my grandfather, who was a full fledged Norwegian, used to make mashed potato donuts for us on those special times when we got to sleep over at my grandparent’s house. These donuts and wearing “angel jammies” (my grandfathers white T shirts) are 2 treasured memories of “Boppa.” This recipe tastes very much like what I remember his tasting like.
Banana Fritters a La Jacques Pepin

This is from Sweet Simplicity: Jacques Pepin's Fruit Desserts. These are all he said it is and more! The batter becomes like a "tempura" batter because of the ice water. We added a large egg because it is included in the directions and not ingredients and it made sense. If there is anyone who can look it up for me, I would appreciate it. I copied the notes by hand, copy machine at library was broken, & I wasn't allowed to check the book out. We made these for the last night of Hanukah, there were a lot of over ripe bananas and went ahead and made the fritters.
Mccormick's Peppermint Bark

I found this on the box of McCormick's Pure Peppermint Extract and decided to try it. I'm usually not a fan of Peppermint Bark because the balance of chocolate and peppermint always seems uneven. That being said, this recipe has a great balance to it and even looks great once finished. My boyfriend loved it so much he pleaded with me not to serve it at our dinner party so he could save it all for himself! ;) My only concern with this recipe is that the bark can get stuck if there are too many wrinkles in the foil. I wonder if this could be fixed with wax paper? Let me know what works for you! -- posted by EmJoMay
