Scalloped Sweet Potatoes

This is such a fantastic side dish for any meal. Since sweet potatoes cook faster than white potatoes, they are cut thicker so they will be fully cooked when the dish comes out of the oven. -- posted by Chef mariajane

Pumpkin Pudding With Candied Ginger Whipped Cream

I love to add some port or dark spiced rum (Zacapa or Zaya), to the pudding and/or the topping!

Serve with a tawny port such as my favourite Taylor Fladgate 20-year or a higher-end sipping rum such as Zacapa or Zaya.

The pudding can be made up to a few days in advance, but wait to mix the topping until you're ready to serve. -- posted by GoldsmithLissa

Sweet Potato Lentil and Lime Soup

Made for cold weather, this hearty warming soup hits all the right spots. The lime, mint and Greek yoghurt are essentials and compliment the earthy flavours of the garlic, cinnamon. ginger lentils and sweet potatoes perfectly. I've adapted this recipe from Sophie Grigson's vegetable book. Pure bliss in a bowl. . . -- posted by robd16

Whipped Sweet Potatoes and Bananas With Honey

From Tyler Florence, Ultimate Thanksgiving. I like the idea of using banana and honey instead of sugar for the sweetness. I can't stand those yucky, overly sweet sweet potatoes that we here in the south usually serve. This is a better option for those of us who enjoy sweet potatoes without all the sugar. I did retain the pecan topping but you can probably cut it back to 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Enjoy! -- posted by ThreeGoodCooks

Sweet and Savory Squash Stew

This recipe combines some of the most iconic tastes of fall--butternut and acorn squash, sweet potato, apple--in a sweet and savory pot of deliciousness. I recommend serving with a dollop of sour cream. And cornbread.

All amounts for seasonings are estimates--I tend to season as I go and according to taste; I have a feeling these are underestimates. I will be sure to update the next time I make this with adjusted amounts. I used a smoked (pre-cooked) ham steak for this; I have also made it with other kinds of ham, with turkey sausage, and without meat altogether with positive results. -- posted by Tlharin

Paula Deen Sweet Potato Balls

This recipe came directly from the FoodNetwork.com website, and they were highlighted as one of Paula's Thanksgiving 2009 foods in her Thanksgiving Special aired in 19 November 2009 on Food Network . The original airing of the "Thanksgiving Special" was 10 November 2005...just in case you want to look back in the archives!

Some say the recipe is too sweet. So, you may want to test-drive the recipe for your own sweetness. These suggestions you might make as I did: I let the sweet potatoes fully cool before mashing, I omitted the orange zest and put just a small amount of orange juice (not a huge orange taste fan), and cut back the brown sugar to 1/3 of a cup. One reviewer said that she only used 1/2 of a large marshmallow after she had them oozing out with a full marshmallow. However, Paula Deen states that if you overcook your Sweet Potato Balls then the marshmallow will burst out of the ball. So be careful not to over-bake them if you choose a whole marshmallow. I chose to roll the balls in chopped pecans and then placed each ball in a cup of a nonstick muffin tin (the recipe made exactly 12 large balls--enough to fill a full tin). I also made some with the coconut mixture. Another option would be to roll them in oats, sugar, & cinnamon OR coconut & pecans. I put the filled muffin tin in the refrigerator overnight and baked the next day after removing my turkey from the oven. They came out perfectly! -- posted by McGowan Family

Healthy Grilled Sweet Potato Steak Fries

Make sure you keep the skins on so the potatoes stay intact on the grill.

Can be prepared in advance (step 1-2) and kept at room temperature for 4 hours or refrigerate for up to 8 hours.

Serve with a quick mix of sour cream (I use fat-free), chives, and bacon bits (try turkey bacon!)

After years of experimentation, I perfected this recipe of sweet potato casserole and it has turned into a holiday favorite. It's always a huge hit & I get tons of requests for it. And the best part is, it's great hot, cold & leftover.
Yum Yum Chicken Curry

We made this last night and it was fantastic; it came from a recent magazine recipe, but we made some changes (per reader feedback) and I wanted to jot down how I did it - it was very, very good, but keep in mind - you can't forget the lemon. It wasn't as good til we added lemon (which was supposed to be in there but I forgot). It is fairly spicey, I would adjust spice levels to taste. Also, serve this over basmati rice. -- posted by larchie

Potato/Root Salad With Lima Beans

This recipe was very broadly adapted from the Kingsolver book, Animal Vegetable Miracle. I wanted to create a potato salad without mayonnaise for a picnic, so that any leftovers would keep well enough for future lunches. For potatoes I recommend Yukon Golds, and I recommend that the lima (butter) beans be fresh. Celeriac is also known as celery root. Depending on what is available, turnips would work as well as celeriac. (For the photo, the beans are a mix of lima and cranberry beans.) -- posted by Diann is Cooking

This is the recipe my gramma used to make, passed down to my mom and all of my 7 siblings. It takes times so grab yourself a cocktail and relax. It's worth the wait! One potato generally is enough for 1-2 people. Select sweet potatoes that are uniform in diameter. I do not like to use really chubby ones.
Best of Both Worlds Potatoes Anna

Sweet Potatoes & Pears With Bourbon Glaze

This Christmas I was looking for a sweet potato recipe that did not have the melted marshmellow topping. We found this on gumbopages and have to thank "The Oregonian Food Section" for such a wonderful recipe. The bourbon cooks off and leaves a very rich flavor to complement the pears and sweet potatoes. YUMMY!

NOTE: Cane syrup can be difficult to find; I made my own using 1-1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water. Boil until syrupy. -- posted by Chef Jen & Kai

Pastor Bobby Smith Yams

I had these cinnamon sweet potatoes at a Thanksgiving lunch. I thought these were so yummy and I had to ask Bobby Smith how to make them. Bobby says these are alot of work but the pay-off is so sweet. When I made these yams I used to much nutmeg I'm gonna cut back on this during the tasting of the grease/syrup. I did use a good amount of cinnamon and will use a bit more next time. My future hubby thought these were good but a bit to sweet so next time I'll go more easy on the brown sugar and sugar. I did use Splenda for both. As for the molasses I only used 2 tablespoons as that's all I can use. -- posted by internetnut

My Spiced Butternut Squash, Sweet Potato, Carrot and Orange Soup

This was inspired by my other butternut squash soup recipe (#402703). The orange flavoring is optional. I use pre-cut, cubed squash when I can find it. You can also use a small fresh butternut squash. (The prep time assumes you are using pre-cut squash.) I use almond milk in this recipe (I like Almond Breeze) instead of cream or half and half. You can save a little time by roughly chopping the onion and garlic, because the soup will be pureed later. I do chop the ginger rather finely because it is so fibrous, and I don't want lumps in the soup that didn't get pureed. -- posted by coconutty

Red Kubbeh Soup

Kubbeh is a small pocket of dough that is stuffed with ground beef. Kubbeh for soup is usually boiled, whereas Kubbeh served on a platter is fried. Grocery stores in Israel and increasingly in the United States offer frozen packages of Kubbeh that are ready to drop into a vegetable soup. Enjoy this traditional recipe for kosher Kubbeh Soup, or Marak Kubbeh in Hebrew.

I found MirJ has a great Kubbeh recipe, Recipe #26755 or you can use frozen store bought kubbeh.
