Grandma Lyna's Best Pie Crust

Back in 1912, my 13 year old grandmother ran away from home and the 12 brothers & sisters she was stuck caring for, and took a position of head baker at the Black Bear Hotel in downtown Duluth. It was a different time, back then; Pie ruled and was King, Queen and Princess. She made 50 pies per day, Monday through Friday, but on the weekends, she made upward of 75 to 100 pies.

This is the ONLY crust she used for her 1000's of pies! -- posted by The_Swedish_Chef

Vegan Key Lime Pie Filling

This is a tad of a spinoff of a recipe on the side of a Nasoya Silken Creations box. You can skip the vanilla and cut the confectioners sugar a little bit if you use Silken Creations Vanilla instead. I didn't include a recipe for a pie crust because I like it crustless! And for ultimate laziness, you can even mix it right in the pie pan! There are lots of good vegan pie crust recipes on here, or you can buy a premade one. Note that cook time does not include cooling time. -- posted by the80srule

Bill Yosse's White House Apple Pie

Came across this in The Seattle Times. Pie without an exquisite crust is simply not the real thing. They said, "White House pastry chef Bill Yosses' light, flaky pie crusts have earned him the nickname "The Crustmaster" from President Barack Obama." This recipe is adapted from Bill Yosses, White House Pastry chef - hope this version is as good as the one being served in the White House. Note it makes use of lard, the secret of all great pastry. Just in time for prime pie making!
Key Lime Meringue Pie Made With No Condensed Milk

I have this thing about canned condensed milk. Every time I look at the number of calories in the can, I just balk at using it. But I do love Key Lime Pie in spite of the fact that most recipes use the condensed milk. So I was delighted to find a recipe for this favorite without the condensed milk. It may end up having the same number of calories, but I will just feel better knowing I avoided the high-calorie milk. I have not yet tried this recipe; I am saving it for a special occasion. Note that preparation time includes cooling time. -- posted by Lorraine of AZ

I usually don't like pumpkin pie but I had to try this one and I loved it. It's different with the hazelnuts and coconut milk. From the Heidi of the blog 101cookbooks.
Shoofly Pie

honest to goodness shoofly pie- so simple, so flavorful and chock full of molasses....from my roots in Lancaster county, PA, this pie is always welcome on the board. An everyday pie with 'in the cupboard' ingredients, it fits with every menu as it is deliciously light. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, it becomes a smash dessert. Leftovers work in this house as breakfast. -- posted by katemarie54

Pear Caramel Crumb Pie

I wanted to make a pear pie with a pecan crumb topping, but sometimes the sweetness of such a topping can make a plain fruit filling seem tart. Inspiration came from a jar of pear cinnamon caramel dessert sauce I had in my fridge. The flavors blend perfectly, and the pecans give a nice crunch to the topping. We also have heart-health issues in my family, so unlike most crumb recipes, this one doesn't use butter. -- posted by akageorge

Holiday Nut Roll (Americanized Croatian Nut Roll)

While similar to other nut roll recipes, this filling is unique because it uses no egg whites or lemon and includes a delicious "Americanization" of the Slavic recipe by adding--whiskey! It adds a fantastic additional flavor; feel free to split the filling before adding whiskey if you'd like to reserve some spirit-free for the kids (though it cooks off and I've never met a kid who didn't like this).

Makes a big batch--perfect for giving away. Freezes very well. My sister and I will make double this batch all at once and freeze them until we're ready to give/send them out. -- posted by Tlharin

Someone's Pastry for a Double-Crust Pie (Or Two Pie Crusts)

This is my mother-in-law's double-crust pastry recipe for pie crusts, and I'm posting it for safe keeping. This is the crust that MUST be under every homemade pumpkin/pecan/any pie for our holidays (or my husband's side of the family thinks the pie is totally gross--haha). I titled this recipe as I did because it could have been my grandma's (her mother's), or it could have come from a church group, a recipe book, a neighbor, or some other source that I am unaware of. We (our family) has made single- and double-crust pies as well as peach cobbler using this recipe.
Grandma Velna and Betty Crocker's Pie Crust

This is a single pie crust recipe for one 9 inch pie crust from Betty Crocker The key is rolling the crust between the wax paper so as to not dry it out by adding flour. We use the butter-flavored shortening. That allows for the flakiness of the crust and the yummy flavor of butter. Also, when baking the pie, I suggest covering the crust with aluminum foil until 10 minutes before the pie is done. That helps keep the crust from burning. -- posted by ShortChef2009

This is the recipe my momma always used when she would make her fried apple pies. I know it has to be at least 50 years old! In the fall when the apples were abundant, we made our own dried apples specifically for this purpose. Of course, an applie pie was pretty good too!
