This is a rich decadent side dish which is amazing with roasted turkey, chicken, cornish hens or pork.

If you don't have a poblano chile, you can use a jalapeno, or any other green pepper like it.  If you don't want spicy, you can use a regular green bell pepper.  This rice was so tasty, can't wait to eat the leftovers! I served this as a rice ring (with easy glazed carrots and raisins in the middle). I had no onions on hand, but this would be excellent with carmelized onions on top. You may need to use a little more or less water depending on the age of your lentils. I used 6 1/2 cups, and it was perfect. My grandmother would have lots of dark chicken meat in it and huge chunks of ginger that I would end up biting into (not fun when you're 7 years old). Since then my own kids have developed a love for the traditional Chinese-style congee (also called rice soup) they serve in restaurants, especially during cold Autumn and Winter days. Some people may be uneasy about using the 'century duck egg' (or 'thousand year old egg' is really just as egg that is preserved in salt, ash and lime) but don't judge it in it's unpeeled, chopped up state - added to the congee, it really adds a yummy complexity to this dish, even my 2yo daughter loves it. This recipe is for you if you want a warm, hearty, simple and economical meal. Enjoy! 			<description>I spent 18 months in central Canada, serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  While I was there, I fell in love with the people and the food, specifically Ukrainian and Filipino food. The cabbage rolls were my favorite, and when I returned to the US, I began searching for recipes, but could never find one that I liked.  This recipe comes from me combining elements of two or three different recipes that I found.  The resulting recipe is surprisingly easy--if a bit labor intensive.

I included instructions to make a sauce, but, if you run out of energy, the stuff in a can works just as well.  If I want to do a homemade sauce, I usually do it a day or so in advance.,

Kuwaitis in particular love their Zubadi (Silver Pomfret) fish that is local to them but can be found in the frozen section of many Middle Eastern &amp;amp; Asian shops. (You may have to degut them yourself). While some prefer to eat them dry with rice, others like ourselves, make Recipe #387327 to serve as an accompaniment.
