Flenjes (Thin Filled Pancakes)

This recipe was posted in answer to a request for Dutch (Netherlands) recipes. The recipe comes from the book: "Cooking into Europe - Choice Common Market Dishes" (1973). This recipe was copied word for word from the book. These pancakes are often eaten just with brown sugar or maple syrup. Prep, cooking times** and servings were not given for this recipe, they are my estimates. ** Cooking time is approx for cooking all the batter! -- posted by Dee514

Chocolate Waffles

Mmm! I suppose you could serve these for a very fancy breakfast, but really, they are for dessert. Serve them with fresh fruit and whipped cream, or with ice cream, or custard. You can make them without beating the egg whites separately, which will make them quicker and easier to make, but also less light and fluffy. -- posted by Jenny Sanders

Mini Chocolate Pancakes

Delicious Russian mini chocolate pancakes, served with a cherry sauce which includes among its ingredients vodka. What else! But you could make a non-alcoholic version if you prefer or if you are making them for breakfast or for children! Cherries are high in vitamin C and their juice contains antibacterial properties which help prevent the formation of dental plaque. And we all know that chocolate is good for us! This recipe has been adapted from one I found on an International Masters '1001 recipes for the Pan or Wok' recipe card, and I am posting it for the 2005 Zaar World Tour. -- posted by bluemoon downunder

Easy Chocolate Pancakes

Great for that early morning pick-me-up: pancakes with chocolate chips. Cocoa is thought to possess anti-depressant qualities, and also contains iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium - all vital in a healthy diet. The recipe also contains the optional ingredient of a tablespoon of orange liqueur or rum. Perhaps not for breakfast, but great if you're making these for dessert, when you may also want to use high quality dark chocolate instead of chocolate chips. This recipe has been adapted from one I found on an International Masters '1001 recipes for pan or wok' recipe card. In the preparation and cooking times below, I have not included the 1 hour standing time in step 2. -- posted by bluemoon downunder

Pumpernickel Waffles

Mashed potatoes in the batter give these waffles a soft, chewy texture. A great way to use up leftovers! The waffle batter should be made a day ahead, so plan accordingly.
These delicious waffles are not too sweet, chock full of goodness, and they make a great gourmet meal breakfast, brunch, dessert, or even dinner if you like the idea of dessert foods for dinner! Prep time includes overnight refrigeration.

Better Than Best Waffles With White Chocolate

I got this recipe from my sister-in-law after her quest for the perfect waffle. She has ended her search for now. She has an expensive professional waffle iron. I have a $20 cheapo and they turn out just as great. Everyone should try this, especially if they think their waffle iron makes only bad waffles. You will be surprised. I do tend to leave my waffles on the iron about 40 seconds more after the ready light goes on, only because I like them a bit browner. -- posted by Joanne #6

Extreme Chocolate Waffles

Really these are more like a dessert than a waffle, top these with whippped cream and fresh berries for a fantastic weekend brunch, your family will rave! The batter can be cooked in a standard or Belgian waffle maker, servings is only estimated, because each waffle maker cooks at a different time, the cooking time for this recipe is not stated. Add in some cinnamon also :) -- posted by KITTENCAL

Nutella Banana Crepes

I had this just about everyday at a crepe stand (like a hot dog stand Frenchified) off the metro in Paris. I made up the recipe for purposes of posting, but could not get enough of these while I was there! I hope these end up being close to what I had there. Feel free to mess with the amounts to your liking. You can purchase the ready-made crepes at the store or find a good recipe here on zaar and use that. Whatever you feel comfortable with.
Uncle Walt's Maki Dango

A cherished food memory from my childhood. I would stay at my cousin's house on the weekend and this is what her father would make for us in the morning. It is a rolled crepe-like pancake and topped with butter and syrup. As kids, we would unroll them and THEN slather them with butter, roll them back up and THEN pour the syrup. Any way that you eat them, they are wonderful. My dear cousin also mentioned to me that she tried it with flavored syrups like Boysenberry and how her father used to experiment with different flavored extracts. Coconut was one of her favorites. -- posted by Fireflylover

Bisquick Banana Pancakes (Chocolate Chips?!)

Very easy with very few ingredients! No eggs, but you won't even miss them. Very quick breakfast for 1, but still very simple to multiply! I suggest using the heart smart bisquick because it is ALOT healthier; no trans fat, low fat, cholesterol free, and is a good source of calcium! When our bananas start getting black, we freeze them, they're perfect for this once thawed! -- posted by Christineyy!

Found this on a website and changed it to my liking! I'm eating it right now and it's delicious! NOTE: This should be for people who like sweet things :]
Also, the recipe makes a LOT of pancakes. Can't really say how many because we all cook them differently, but you can half the recipe of you want.

Know that the prep/cooking time may not be correct

Note that I used exactly 1 cup sugar and vegetable oil instead of butter. I also used 6 tsps of cocoa and fat free milk instead of whole milk. -- posted by Cherrin

You can add some cinnamon to the batter, throw in some blueberries, mash in a banana, or substitute wheat germ or oats for the flax seed meal. If you don't have buttermilk, you can use the yogurt & milk substitution, soymilk, or about a tablespoon of vinegar to regular milk and let it sit for 5 minutes and use that. -- posted by blucoat
