Sizzling pan-seared tuna spices up this super-satisfying main dish summer salad. CuisineAtHome eRECIPES, August 20, 2009 edition. For the Cajun seasoning spices, you can use recipe #114562 by Pets "R" us, or Mrs Dash's Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend (I like this because it has no salt but it tends to be HOT) just don't use as much. ;) -- posted by Manami

Senora Lopez's Sangria

I got this recipe from my Spanish teacher, who was from Bogota, in the early 1970s. Because of the long chilling time, the fruit gets kind of funny-looking, but it's wonderful to eat when the sangria is gone! I'm guessing at the number of servings. Prep time does not include chilling time. -- posted by Chocolatl

Adding this to my holiday cookie trays. Adapted from a recipe in The Seattle Times provided by Lynne Rossetto Kasper. Something wonderful about orange at Christmas. Coconut is always so festive too. The article noted this dough really benefits from resting overnight in the refrigerator so start the day before. Over working this dough seems to make tough cookies - think I'll be using cake flour.
From EatingWell Magazine (JulAug 2009): Get a little pick-me-up with this orange-infused Earl Grey iced tea. Tea is rich in flavonoids that my help reduce your risk of Alzheimer's and diabetes, plus help you have healthier teeth and gums and stronger bones. You can help preserve the flavonioids in iced tea by adding something acidic - like the orange juice in this recipe. Use Splenda for a more diabetic-friendly tea.
La Provence's Bourbon Old Fashioned

In November 2009, my husband and I were delighted to be able to have Sunday brunch at Chef John Besh's restaurant, La Provence, in Lacombe, Louisiana. We fell in love with everything we ate that day, and I purchased a signed copy of Chef Besh's cookbook "My New Orleans". Our waitress was wonderful; the manager was personable & friendly. We even chatted with the head chef, Erick Loos IV, and he signed my cookbook, too. We also had a wonderful drink - an Old Fashioned. Unfortunately, the recipe for this drink was not in the cookbook. So I emailed the restaurant and they graciously sent me their recipe. We cannot wait to go back! -- posted by Kat's Mom

Avocado Clementine Breakfast Salad

I'm not an ordinary breakfast eater (by North American standards). I like savory dishes and soups and all kinds of interesting things for breakfast, but rarely enjoy sweet cereals or toast. My family thinks I'm insane, but I don't care. In any case, this particular salad appealed to me one morning so I threw it together and it turned out delicious. Prep time includes time to boil egg. While egg is boiling, cut all the rest of the ingredients and it comes together in a jiffy. This works well using Catalina/French style dressing as well. -- posted by Cookworm

I bought a bunch of jello on sale and didn't know what to do with it. I discovered Favorite Recipes Jello Brand Fun and Fabulous Recipes, and oila! I used orange gelatin, but you can use whatever flavor you want. I also substituted blueberries for the crushed pineapple (I didn't have any). Next time I'd like to try this with real whipped cream. I used sour cream (I didn't try it with non-dairy whipped topping). Very tasty stuff and simple to make. Cook time excludes chill time. -- posted by AmyZoe

Crepes Suzette (Weight Watchers)

Just like Julia...if you liked the movie, you'll love the recipes. Weight Watchers has updated the beloved chef's timeless classics, keeping the French flavor, but trimming the fat. The original: 19 Points values - WW remake: 4 Points values. So why not serve a few of your favorites when you host a Julia-inspired Oscar fete this year? Bon appetit! Tip: If you want to prepare this dessert but skip the alcohol, substitute 1 Tbsp lemon juice for the liqueur and omit boiling the sauce in step 4. When you swirl in the butter in step 5, add the grated zest of 1/2 lemon. -- posted by Crafty Lady 13

Rab Torte (Rapska Torta)

It is believed that Rab Torte was served for the first time in 1177. when Pope Alexander III, escorted by his ten galleys, was overtaken by a storm as he was crossing the Adriatic, and took cover under the cliffs and in the harbors of Croatian island Rab (and town), and thus by a quirk of fate arrived in Rab just after the renovation of the Cathedral of the Assumption, which he consecrated on the occasion. In order to enhance this unexpected ceremony and to express their respect, nuns of the Benedict order served him cake on the host – Rab cake. The original recipe for the first Rab cake is kept in the archives of the Benedictine abbey of St. Andrew on the southern coast of island Rab. I am posting the recipe of madam Dunja from “Vilma Patisserie” from town Rab. -- posted by nitko
