Oven Baked Whole Cranberry-Caramel Sauce

This is a recipe that is the same as one my Mom makes, she has been making it for years and it has become a staple on our Holiday Table.
It's a variation on the traditional sauce which produces whole cooked berries with a touch of caramel.
Hope you enjoy! -- posted by ~Leslie~

Crunchy Fudge Squares

I wanted something fudge-y. But I wasn't in the mood for plain fudge. I don't like nuts in my fudge so I got inventive. The way they are wrapped in my photo was my 6 y.o. son's idea. I think these would be great on a platter with a whole bunch of other cookies for Christmas or something like that. -- posted by Saturn

Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding

Toronto pastry chef Anna Olsen includes this in her own Christmas Eve traditions! I like it because its actually a "double duty" recipe ........ I used half the banana bread on its own, then used the other half to make half the bread pudding. You could use your own favourite banana bread recipe - or even a store bought banana bread if you're really pushed for time. I served it warm with frozen vanilla yogurt but I actually preferred it the next day at room temperature. -- posted by CountryLady

Sweet Marie Bars 1963

This used to be a favourite way back in 1963, quick to make and faster to eat. I baked a lot for customers then and looking at my recipe today in the side column is break down prices. It cost 1 cent to make each bar or balls, I always got 8 dozen balls from a recipe., so it was a good filler for my boxes. This recipe was a request so thats why I am only now posting it, as I am sure everyone has this already in their family recipes, just maybe forgotten. Enjoy. Serving size on recipe is estimated as every one cuts these different. -- posted by andypandy

Granny's Fried Potato Slices

I like this recipe because it is fairly easy to make, is quick to cook and inexpensive to make. I got the recipe from my father's mother when she was alive many years ago and she got it off of a lady she knew during the Great Depression of the 1930's. One tip I would like to make is to always make sure when cooking this recipe to have the cooking oil not only cover the top of the slices but underneath the slices as well in the deepest frying pan you have or deep fryer that you can also use. If you or your family like french fries a lot, then I am sure you will these, they are tasty but I am afraid addictive like french fries and fattening but enjoy them anyway! -- posted by sweetie52

Carnation Maple Muffins

My Mum got this recipe from a can of Carnation evaporated milk in the 80s and it's been a family favourite ever since. It's not listed among the Carnation website's current list of recipes at www.nestle.ca so I thought I should do my best to save this classic recipe from extinction. The original recipe calls for "1/4 cup shortening"; we use 3 tablespoons of (corn) oil. It also calls for 1/2 cup of maple syrup, but we found 3/4 cup was even better :) We also cut out the 1/2 teaspoon of salt from the original recipe. Use medium grade maple syrup (not the "light" stuff) if possible. Finally, be sure to use *evaporated* milk, not condensed milk! -- posted by Pepita

Baked Apple Pudding

Another delicious recipe by Lucy Waverman, Food and Drink!
Steamed puddings have fallen out of fashion but try this oven-baked pudding - a light, apple-based dessert that will be enjoyed by young and old as a grand finale to Christmas dinner, or any dinner for that matter. With it, you can serve a caramel sauce and a crème anglaise or just plain old-fashioned ice cream. -- posted by ~Leslie~

Anna Olson's Crisp Fruit Chips

Yes, this is another recipe from Food and Drink Magazine!
"A garnish of fruit chips is a dramatic way to add shards of concentrated flavour and snappy crunch to winter desserts and soups. Pastry chef Anna Olson, host of Food Network Canada's "Sugar" and owner of Olson's Foods and Bakery in Port Dalhousie, particularly loves pear or pineapple chips. They're easy to make at home, she says, but cautions "the real trick is having a good sharp mandolin slicer to cut the fruit thinly."

I had fun making these beautiful garnishes so I thought I would share!
They may be made with your favourite fruits, unpeeled pears or apples sliced lengthwise, or peeled and uncored pineapple are good choices. Use your imagination!!
Ingredient amounts are approximate, you can add more or less fruit and icing sugar to taste. -- posted by ~Leslie~

Pasta in a Rice Cooker 2007

This is simple, while you are making your salad, slicing the bread, pouring your wine, and setting the table, your meal will be made all in twenty minutes. This does not come out starchy, it cooked exactly right. Give it a try in your rice cooker soon.

Please remember the sauce you use should be the one that you like the best. Measure accurately the water, sauce, and the pasta. Do not think heaping is the same as two cups, if you do, then you are risking a starchy saucey result. Also I have used rigatoni and penne always with good result. -- posted by andypandy

Build Your Own Canadian Cranberry and Herb Turkey Burgers!

Build your own burger - the recipe here is for a low-fat cranberry and herb turkey burger, with LOTS of options! Plump semi-dried Canadian cranberries and fresh chopped herbs are added to lean, low-fat turkey mince for a moist and flavourful burger, and without the guilt! I have offered the bacon, cheese, assorted condiments and the burger bun as an option; if you are REALLY watching your calories and fat intake, just go with the plain burger and a lovely crispy mixed salad on the side. Turkey mince can be a little bland, so the addition of the herbs and cranberries adds a real flavour injection. Try to use freshly chopped herbs for the best flavour, if you do use dried herbs, reduce the quantities by half, as dried herbs are more pungent than fresh. If you prefer a slightly sweeter taste, use Craisins, the sweetened dried cranberries that are available in North America and Canada; this recipe has been posted as a thank you to a Canadian friend on Recipezaar, who kindly sent me some Craisins, along with lots of other Canadian goodies! Merci beaucoup! -- posted by French Tart

Four-Cheese Macaroni With Curry Crunch

A touch of spicy curry flavour is a surprisingly terrific match for cheesy pasta. Do try the four cheeses below (though you can also use up bits of cheese lingering in your refrigerator). In either case, be sure to use the goat cheese for luscious creaminess. For variety, stir in sliced mushrooms or chopped broccoli.

Rustic Apple Tart

This recipe hails from British Columbia, Canada. It is from the website if the B.C. Tree Fruits Limited company. "Who doesn't love baked apples and cinnamon? They are an irresistible combination especially when served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This rustic apple tart is simpler to make than a pie. You don't have to be neat and fussy with the crust, just simply fold it up over the apples however you please leaving the centre open. The chopped pecans toast while the tart is baking which gives them a buttery taste and help to make the tart look very rustic." http://www.bctree.com/recipes/archive/apple-rustic-tart.php -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Chocolate Fudge Cookies With Toffee & Dried Cherries

These cookies have a crispy exterior and a soft and chewy interior. The various flavours and textures (rich dark chocolate, chewy sour cherries, and sweet crisp toffee) combine to produce a deliciously addictive cookie. From Regan Daley's cookbook, "In The Sweet Kitchen: The Definitive Baker's Companion". If you are using cherries, make sure they are plump and soft. If you want smaller cookies, decrease baking time. Dough freezes very well.
Ultimate Garlic & Cheese Bread!

This is a super easy, always delicious recipe for garlic bread with a twist.

I got the idea for this recipe when eating out one evening, but developed it on my own.

The nice thing about this recipe is that I often use it when I have some bread or buns which tastes a little too stale for sandwiches - so it's a great way to use those extras. If you're going out to buy the ingredients, check the "day-old" rack at your grocery store!
The bottled minced garlic can be found in grocery store's condiment aisle. Fresh minced would also work, but I don't recommend dried since the cream cheese overpowers the taste.)

It's a great appetizer, snack or side dish for a meal (especially anything with tomato) and even the pickiest eaters in my family love it. It's always the first thing gone at family functions! -- posted by Travelling Journal
