Strawberry Rhubarb Custard Pie

This was my Grandmothers recipe, we all love it! You can adjust the sweetness by the amount of strawberries you add. You will need 3 cups of fruit in total, but if you want a more tart pie, use more rhubarb than strawberries. I have posted this with exactly 1/2 and 1/2. -- posted by ~Leslie~

Sweet Potatoes With Caramelized Onion

I fail to remember where this recipe first appeared but chances are it was from Canadian Living magazine. This simple dish is much richer than you would expect and pairs well with grilled meats especially lamb and pork. Since sweet potatoes are very moist, adjust the amount of sour cream or milk to your taste.

I do recall that the original recipe recommended placing the sweet potatoes and onion mixture in a food processor until blended. I found this method too gluey and altered it as stated. -- posted by Highland Lass

Granny's Fried Potato Slices

I like this recipe because it is fairly easy to make, is quick to cook and inexpensive to make. I got the recipe from my father's mother when she was alive many years ago and she got it off of a lady she knew during the Great Depression of the 1930's. One tip I would like to make is to always make sure when cooking this recipe to have the cooking oil not only cover the top of the slices but underneath the slices as well in the deepest frying pan you have or deep fryer that you can also use. If you or your family like french fries a lot, then I am sure you will these, they are tasty but I am afraid addictive like french fries and fattening but enjoy them anyway! -- posted by sweetie52

5 Layer Dip on a Chip

I prepared this as a snack for my husband this afternoon, as I had made chili and guacamole earlier in the day. At first, I thought I would throw together some classic nachos, but then I remembered that in the past, the results sometimes yielded some soggy chips while others didn't have any of the goods on them. 3 minutes under the broiler for these babies, and you're guaranteed that every chip will burst with that Mexican flavour that everybody loves. The only problem with this recipe, my husband says, is that you're left wanting more. -- posted by KP in Canada

Carnation Maple Muffins

My Mum got this recipe from a can of Carnation evaporated milk in the 80s and it's been a family favourite ever since. It's not listed among the Carnation website's current list of recipes at www.nestle.ca so I thought I should do my best to save this classic recipe from extinction. The original recipe calls for "1/4 cup shortening"; we use 3 tablespoons of (corn) oil. It also calls for 1/2 cup of maple syrup, but we found 3/4 cup was even better :) We also cut out the 1/2 teaspoon of salt from the original recipe. Use medium grade maple syrup (not the "light" stuff) if possible. Finally, be sure to use *evaporated* milk, not condensed milk! -- posted by Pepita

Orange Raisin Walnut Muffins

Just made this recipe from Harrowsmith Cookbook, and they're probably the best muffins I've ever baked. Not too sweet, but not bland, and the cinnamon and orange just compliment each other so well!

Nice crunchy walnuts here and there and raisins scattered throughout...I altered the recipe jussst a bit, and they turned out to be the perfect muffin, I think.

(The procedure to mixing them is a bit different, I found, but the texture was great in the end, so it was worth cleaning an extra bowl or two.) -- posted by Megohm

Spaghettini With Fiddleheads and Shrimp

Fiddleheads, yum! A Canadian and Northern U.S. treat, if you can get your hands on some, you should give them a try.
It's the simplicity of this dish of pasta, curly fiddlehead fronds and shrimp nestled in a light cream sauce that makes it impressive. If you have access to wild leeks, the flavour is great in combination with the fiddleheads!
Don't let the many steps of this recipe put you off, it's really quite simple.
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese can be passed at the table as an optional topping.

Nana Banana's Perfect Banana Bread

Well, this recipe is 25 years old. I created this recipe for my youngest son at the time. He was a very picky eater and had allergies to most things so suffice to say the Banana Bread was a good substitute for candy and etc at the time. I particularly like this formula because of it's simplicity and I have yet to find one that I like in comparison. It will always be moist and surely never last long. I have even taken to sending it to him when he went away to university. Thank God for couriers! I have changed the additions as the years progressed simply because I like nuts and variables from time to time. -- posted by Chef Mumsie Moskal

Potato Salad With Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing

Thick and creamy are the standards for a great blue cheese dressing. If you're using this for a spinach salad, simply thin with milk or buttermilk.
We loved this potato salad, it's very different!

Four-Cheese Macaroni With Curry Crunch

A touch of spicy curry flavour is a surprisingly terrific match for cheesy pasta. Do try the four cheeses below (though you can also use up bits of cheese lingering in your refrigerator). In either case, be sure to use the goat cheese for luscious creaminess. For variety, stir in sliced mushrooms or chopped broccoli.

Ultimate Garlic & Cheese Bread!

This is a super easy, always delicious recipe for garlic bread with a twist.

I got the idea for this recipe when eating out one evening, but developed it on my own.

The nice thing about this recipe is that I often use it when I have some bread or buns which tastes a little too stale for sandwiches - so it's a great way to use those extras. If you're going out to buy the ingredients, check the "day-old" rack at your grocery store!
The bottled minced garlic can be found in grocery store's condiment aisle. Fresh minced would also work, but I don't recommend dried since the cream cheese overpowers the taste.)

It's a great appetizer, snack or side dish for a meal (especially anything with tomato) and even the pickiest eaters in my family love it. It's always the first thing gone at family functions! -- posted by Travelling Journal
