Jim's New England Clam Chowder

After years of watching my New England relatives try to perfect their versions of this venerable seaside staple and several morphs and versions of my own, this has become my favorite. It yields a hearty delicious chowder that is not too thick. It is also forgiving enough that you can tweak it a bit to make it more healthy. For parties, I make this recipe as follows then place it in a crock pot on low. Guests eat it all day and there are never any leftovers! -- posted by Vic Damoth

Mom's "On Strike" Casserole

I found this recipe out of the blue-we tried it and loved it! If you want it to look a little more 'fresh', just boil the 2 cups water first, and let the noodles soak for a minute or two, and pour the noodles (and water) into the pan like before. (you need the water!) Also, it is very easy to double for large groups!
North Pole Soup

Peanut Butter Banana Break Shake Smoothie

A healthy, filling smoothie/shake that I like to have as an afternoon pick-me up (after school) or one to two hours before I work out. This smoothie is thick, tasty, and very healthy - it has plenty of protein and plenty of flavor! I have also had this as breakfast if I am pressed for time. The color may not be the prettiest, but as far as taste goes it reigns supreme! If you take the incentive to add more strawberries, this will come out a pinker color! -- posted by KRMC

Partridges - Catalan Style

Young partridges are considered to have particularly delicate flesh and are usually roasted, while older ones are most often used in casseroles or stews. Count on one bird per person. There are two main types, both edible: the grey or common partridge and the red-legged partridge. The latter is larger but its flesh is considered to be less delicate. If you do not hunt for these wild birds, they are readily available in speciality shops with a gourmet butcher, or most larger super-markets will have partridges packaged in two's, and frozen. These seem to be more readily available during the Christmas season. I acquired an excellent cookbook, while on a trip to England many years ago, entitled "Supercook's Poultry and Game Cookbook". The investment in this book has returned extraordinary dividends. Over time, I have used most of the recipes in this book, at least once. An absolutely delicious dinner, this recipe may be served with mashed potatoes, and buttered baby carrots; but make your own choices, you won't be sorry. -- posted by TOOLBELT DIVA

My dad always makes this for the Holidays and we all love it! I have never made it myself for fear of doing something wrong- it may take a few tries to get it perfect (I wonder how long it took my dad...) Use whole milk for this one- It makes the rice nice and thick!
Baked Croaker with Cracked Peanuts

A friend gave me a croaker he caught in the Chesapeake Bay on his vacation. Never had the pleasure of eating croaker before. I've learned it's a sweet tasting bottom-feeder fish (from up north!) Other than cleaning it, the recipe is soooo simple and awesome tasting! The fish flakes right away from the bone, doesn't have a strong fish taste, and tastes incredible! Makes me want to go fishing up north so I can get "a whole mess of 'em"!! -- posted by Laurita

Seal Stew (Quallunaatitut)

Inuit live in the Artic regions of Alaska, Canada and Greenland. Traditionally their diet was very high in fat and protein, consisting almost entirely of fish, marine mammals, and large land animals such as polar bear and caribou. In recent times, changes to more sedentary lifestyles and higher consumption of processed grains and sugars have resulted in a very high rate of diabetes among the Inuit. Inuit Healthy Living Cookbook includes adaptation of traditional dishes to modern lifestyles. -- posted by realbirdlady
