Avocado, Tomato and Feta Cheese Appetizer

This appetizer is pico-de-gallo like in texture, but with a twist of the added feta cheese. It is great served with tortilla chips, pita wedges or crostini.
Scallop and Mango Ceviche With Thai-Lime Dipping Sauce

This dipping sauce, fresh with herbs and tangy with lime, is Blue Ginger's, Ming Tsai's restaurant, most requested recipe. It's based on the traditional Thai dip called cha-gio, which gets its flavor from fish sauce. That salty ingredient is nicely balanced with lime juice. The herbs darken as the sauce ages; this isn't a taste problem (quite the opposite, as the flavor deepends over time) but the sauce will lose it looks. If this bothers you make and store the sauce "base" only, then chop & add the herbs an hour before serving it.Ceviche is food "cooked" without heat. As with all ceviches, freshness is key. Make sure your scallops are pristine enough to eat raw. This technique uses citric acid or vinegar to firm and therefore"cooked". Here, mango adds its exotic sweetness to scallops, which cook in the flavorful dipping sauce.
Easy Italian Dressing

I L.O.V.E using Italian dressing, but the store bought kind can be a little salty. I found this on another website, and it is so good... you'll want to put it on everything. You can very the dry ingredients, I use whatever I think smells good and whatever I have. Instead of a fancy bottle, I use a left-over dressing bottle to store it... double the "mixing" recipe and it works fine. The dry should last you a long time. -- posted by MamaMount

Berry Yoghurt Smoothie

I got this recipe from Sarah Owen's book "The Top 100 juices", published by Lifetime Distributers, Castle Hill, Australia.
Sarah Owen says "The super-nutrient vitamin C is needed for more than 300 diferent processes in the body, but it is easily wiped out by smoking, pollution and stress. Found in abundance in berries, vitamin C and other antioxidants help to quash the damaging free radicals that are associated with many illnesses."
The original recipe calls for natural bio yoghurt to be used, but any yoghurt will do.
This makes a large amount of smoothie, and if you're making it just for yourself, I'ld recommend halving it.
I hope you enjoy this healthy - but still tasty - smoothie :) -- posted by TALIA #3

Try this as a dry rub or add it to water for a brine.
Sprinkle a touch into soup or a dressing. Possibilities are endless........
This is a very workable recipe. Just use the sugar and salt as is and add any dry ground ingredients you prefer equalling 3/4's cup of herbs and spices.
Green Herb Seasoned Salt

I like to use this when I reach for salt, So I lower my intake of salt and kick up the flavor of what I cook.
I used home grown herbs that I dried whole. Leaves that are loosely packed into measuring cups. So if using store bought do take note the amounts of the whole herbs would be a lot less. I guesstimate my 2/3's. Great to season any game, roast beef or roast poultry. Season roast veggies, stuffing, rice or potatoes. How about a touch on your eggs.
I do like heat but I kept it down in this using only peppercorns. You can add chili powder to really make it hot! -- posted by ~Rita~

Smeared Tomato Bruschetta W/Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Torn Basil

Chef's note: These bruschetta should be prepared at the last minute.

Do use a good quality salt and extra virgin olive oil for this recipe as it makes all the difference in the world. I like adding slices of fresh mozzarella to this yummy dish.

I got this recipe from Michael Chiarello's NapaStyle website. I love saving my favorite recipes on Zaar! -- posted by By The Lake

Simple Ham Spread

Here's a very simple and basic ham sandwich spread from Jean Pare's Company's Coming Soups & Sandwiches. You can make this as written, increase the quantity of chopped onion or add things like chopped celery and mustard to add more flavour. This recipe should be enough to make 4 sandwiches. -- posted by Dreamer in Ontario

Zanzibari Chutney (Part of Zanzibari Pulao/Pilaf)

Growing up in Dubai there was a tiny restaurant my father would occasionally take us to. They were famous for & only served Zanzibari Pulao along with a cold glass of the drink Tang. After moving out of Dubai the only option I had to still eat the pulao was to come up with something at home. After many trials my mom came up with this chutney recipe. This chutney is part of the Zanzibari Pulao that I have posted. Pakistani Bhagaare Chawal (Stir Fried Rice) or Zanzabari Pulao recipe #282570
Soon I'll post Zanzibari Fried Fish's recipe as well.
Already warning people with low tolerance to spices. This chutney is spicy & sour . It can be stored in an air tight jar for 2 weeks in the fridge. -- posted by Bint e Naeem
