Cinnabon-Ish Cinnamon Rolls (Gluten-Free)

This is a combination of two or three recipes. Makes some absolutely delicious and decadent cinnamon rolls. The frosting is good straight out of the bowl. I have successfully substituted buckwheat flour for the millet flour in this recipe and a review has used oat flour to great success as well. I'm betting brown rice flour wouldn't be horrible either. -- posted by Andrew Mollmann

Kate's Quiche Lorraine Souffle Style Extreme Variations

I invented these extreme variations of Quiche Lorraine at the end of ZWT5 based on Karen Elizabeth's Recipe #299242 #299242, taking advantage of the unique ingredients I had bought over the tour. Each variation I tried and pictured was great in its own way. Next time, if I had piperade sauce on hand (Julie B's Hive's Recipe #233205 #233205), I might add that on a wedge. The measurements for toppings are for 1 choice of topping to cover the entire quiche. Choose 1,2,3,4, or 5 toppings, and make a decorative pattern, allowing small wedges to be cut of this rich quiche. If available, Pillsbury's refrigerated pie crust works well (do not prick or pre-bake) in a glass deep-dish pie plate. I recommend very small wedges (12 servings), this is very rich. Serve with a side salad with vinaigrette dressing. -- posted by KateL

No-Bake Strawberry Cheesecake - Parade Magazine

Different from the others posted here. This recipe doesn't contain Jello but does have cream cheese, sugar, sour cream, vanilla extract, whipped topping (like Cool Whip), fresh strawberries and prepared graham cracker pie crust. I don't want to lose it and will make it soon. This requires 4 hours chilling time.
Grandma Rene's Old-Fashioned Banana Pudding

This was the way my mom made banana pudding. You'll find no vanilla pudding mix in this! It's all homemade and with love. I used a saucepan on the stove to cook the custard, but you have to constantly stir it to keep it from scalding on the bottom because it needs to come to a boil (bubble) to thicken. If you're not comfortable doing that, try using a double-boiler. But it must bubble. For extra zip in the custard, add 1/4 tsp. of lemon oil or 1 tablespoon of lemon zest.
The meringue is simple and delicious. If you want a mile-high meringue, use 6 eggs whites (any leftovers in the freezer? Take 'em out!) and 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar and a pinch of salt.

Eggs are easier to separate when they're cold. So do so, and let them come to room temp before using.

Bananas are best if they're ripe and sweet. Don't get any that are green. If yours are green, wait for them to ripen (putting them in a brown paper bag will speed the process). Don't worry about having too many bananas....it's great piled high with all the ingredients!

Best served warm, but good either way. Zap in microwave if you have kept it in the refrigerator for hot banana pudding! This is one of my favorite comfort foods! -- posted by Citruholic

Chocolate Banana Cake from Canadian Living

The name "Chocolate Banana Cake" does not do this dessert justice. Not even remotely. Banana-chocolate chip cake is layered with white chocolate whipped cream and banana slices, while the entire thing is covered in white chocolate whipped cream and topped with chocolate ganache. Just incredible. Add nuts for extra flavor. The recipe comes from a Canadian Living cookbook and can be found on the Canadian Living website. Worth the time it takes to make, particularly for special occasions. -- posted by KimEBdos

I have seen a lot of recipes for White Bean & Spinach Soups & Stews but nothing like these! You don't have to worry about over-filling or overflowing the souffle cups.
My Favorite Lower-Fat Cream Cheese Frosting

I don't like the overly sweet cream cheese frostings out there, so this is perfect for me. I add just a small amount of lemon juice to give a more tart taste, but you would never know it was in there.
No softening the cream cheese (though you do have to plan ahead with the butter). No whipping to a certain point that occurs for all of ten seconds before it's ruined. -- posted by nsomniak6

Apple and Cinnamon Sponge Pudding

From a mag I took a copy but forgot to note which mag. Times are in accordance with recipe directions. They recommend to use 1 x 800 grams of can pie apples (in place of granny smiths) and microwave on high for 2 minutes, then top with sponge mixture (fruit must be hot when topping with sponge, or sponge will not rise during cooking. Would also add cinnamon to canned apple if not already done so by the manufacturer. Serve with custard or ice-cream. IMPORTANT NOTE - prepare sponge mix while apple is cooking (apple mix needs to be hot). -- posted by I'mPat

Chocolate Mousse Cupcakes

From The Cupcake Deck by Elinor Klivans.

The addition of mocha mousse to these cupcakes makes them perfect for an extra-special occasion and worth the slightly longer time it takes to make them!

Note: Make the chocolate ganache frosting first, the mocha mousse filling second, and the actual cupcakes last. -- posted by Chef #784013

Sweet Corn Cake Recipe from El Torito Restaurant

These sweet corn cakes are a bit of buttery heaven, but they're more of a thick pudding than a cake.
Satisfying Potato & Chorizo Soup

It's a rainy summer's day, soup was a great idea. I love making this because it's pretty quick for homemade and it strikes a good balance for adults and kids. All depending on who your audience is, choose a mild or spicy chorizo. I haven't made this without using the immersion blender to mix it up. I'm sure it would be fine, I would be tempted to cut things quite a bit smaller if that were the case, and maybe not preboil the potatoes. The original recipe called for kale, but to please all palates I have subbed carrots. You could sub a wide variety of complimentary veg such as spinach or another leafy green. Something with a pop of colour. -- posted by magpie diner

Banana Almond Date Soy Smoothie

This vegan smoothie is amazingly rich, creamy, filling, and healthy. It has a nice texture to it from the almonds and a natural sweetness from the banana and dates. I like that there is no refined sugar added or any animal products, all good for us and the planet. I like using a frozen banana to make the drink cold, but room temperature works well too. If you want to freeze bananas, peel them before freezing. Peeling frozen bananas doesn't work! And place them separated in the freezer so they don't freeze together. -- posted by Chef #1363287

Meringue Buttercream Frosting - 1st Generation

Sophmore year of highschool I jobshadowed a pastry chef, and she told me that the best icing to use for cake is meringe buttercream. So I went online, found a cute little blog that told me all the steps in detail. mmhmhmm. Makes very fluffy frosting, great for decorating! Has a great texture, but unfortunately, it's VERY fattening because of all the butter, and also it has a pretty prominent butter flavor. That's my disclaimer. But don't be discouraged! When I discovered this recipe, I never went back to regular buttercream. Anyway, I'm working on a less fattening version involving gelatin. So check back! -- posted by MandyLovesPandys

Blow Your Mind Amazing Chocolate Cherry Pudding - Raw

Yummy Fool Proof Gluten Free French Bread!

From Cooking Free by Carol Fenster. This turned out great, even in a regular bread pan. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Carol says: "Put this in a cold oven for a crisp crust and nice texture. If this doesn't work in your oven, let the bread rise until level with top of pan; then bake in preheated 425° F oven for 25-30 minutes. Use a pan specially designed for French bread." It is critical to cool bread completely before slicing and is easier to slice with electric knife. This is a quicker bread because you don't have to let it rise before baking. -- posted by WI Cheesehead

Swiss Chard Curry

A very hardy curry dish the whole family loved even though i'm usually the only one who likes swiss chard or curry. The recipe came from the Saskatoon Sun. I used canned chick peas rather than dried and added yams. I never had fresh ginger so I used ginger powder. Havn't tried it with the yogurt either. -- posted by Tilden

Italian Meringue Buttercream

A very versatile Buttercream. This recipe produces enough buttercream to cover three 9 inch round layer cakes. This recipe can be turned into chocolate buttercream, or spiced buttercream. You will need to have a candy thermometer, an electric stand mixer with a whisk attachment, a pastry brush and a bowl of water. This is my favorite buttercream! It's sweet, but not too rich and just the right consistency to do just about anything with it. The recipe is from my pastry arts school. -- posted by pastrygirl_5280

My Mum's Signature New Year Cake

My Mum found this recipe somewhere when I was about 5 and it was such a hit that for several successive years we had only this cake for any holiday. Even though we later introduced more variation to our desserts menu, this one is still the biggest favourite. It may seem complicated, but I was 13 when I made it for the first time completely on my own - so it should not be too difficult. Still, it is somewhat time-consuming, so I now usually make it only once a year, for the New Year's Day. It is big enough for a company of 8-10 people. One of the most enjoyable things is having your guests to try and guess what the filling is made of (no one ever succeeds, trust me :) ). The prep time includes time needed to make the batter, the filling and the topping and to assemble the cake. -- posted by Nat L

Fall Harvest Smoothie

Top with a little fat free whip cream for an extra-special desert. My teen-age daughter begs for this and sometimes we even heat it up for a thick soup. The key to this recipe is to make sure you use a blender/smoothie maker that has enough power to completely puree alll the ingredients; otherwise the squash will stay stringy. -- posted by RackeSRN

Good Eats Pound Cake Light - Alton Brown

Transcribed from the 10/26/09 episode. Slow-churned European style butters have smaller butterfat crystals, which leads to smaller, finer bubbles and a finer texture in the finished cake, so splurge on the expensive butter for this! Be sure to use cake flour, not all-purpose; the finer particle size, the lower protein and the bleaching all lead to a better, more tender texture in the final cake. Substituting buttermilk for some of the eggs and butter lightens the cake, lowers the fat and calories, and adds a tangy note; Alton recommends whole buttermilk, not low-fat or non-fat. It's technically not a pound cake anymore, but we won't quibble with such good eats. -- posted by DrGaellon

Sugar Cookie Cut-Outs

I had misplaced this recipe and recently found it again. When DD was in Kindergarten the children had to take turns bringing a snack to school for everyone to share and DD loved to bring these cookies. I love this recipe because it doesn't require refrigeration before rolling out and because the cookies always turned out beautifully. The recipe is from a little booklet called Wilton Christmas Recipes & Ideas.
Note: If you're using margarine, be sure to use the hard margarine that comes in a brick like butter, not soft tub margarine. -- posted by Dreamer in Ontario

Have you ever had those sugar cookies at publix that are really fluffy and cake like? Well hear is that recipe. I think its the sour cream that makes it so fluffy. I also roll them out maybe 1/4 in thick and under cook them a little but thats probably a personal preference. They do take a little work just like any cut-out cookies but this is something that anytime I ask someone in our family what I can bring for dessert they always say this! I use my kitchen aid but before that I would use my hand blender as long as I could and then mix the last part of the flour in by hand. Hope you enjoy. -- posted by 998171

While searching for a way to use up all of the cranberries I have bought in the last couple of weeks, I found this tasty recipe. I found this online @ http://www.cranberries.org courtesy of Massachusetts Cranberry Harvest Festival Recipes 1997, Second Place - Best of Show

B H & G Challah Bread

This is the recipe I have been using since the early 70's. I make it in my KA stand mixer now and let it rise in my proofing oven. Ahh, modern conveniences! I use real eggs, whole milk and unsalted butter. I crumble some saffron threads into the milk and the dough comes out a warm eggy color. There is no such thing as leftover Challah in this house! It makes wonderful sandwiches and the best French toast ever!

Times do not include rising times. Total rising times depend on the temperature of your environment. Today my rising times totaled under two hours.

Saffron is optional as are seeds.

I hope you enjoy this bread as much as we enjoy it. -- posted by Secret Agent
