Lincoln Douglas Cake

This cake was served to Lincoln and Douglas during one of the stops on their debate.
It is from a very old calender style cookbook of cakes. The entry starts "This cake was served to these two gentlemen after the debate with some homemade wine on the veranda of the authors grandfather's home [Jacob J Oyler] in Freeport Ill. The cake was made especially for the occasion by his daughter Miss Caroline Oyler."

The Ice Cream icing still has me puzzled. While the author included may frostings and icings, she did not include any ice cream frosting recipe. The only assumption I can make is that you simply use homemade ice cream to coat and it still has me puzzled. -- posted by DR.
Kmart Sub's - a Blast from the Past!

I had an awful craving hit me for one of these wonderful K-mart Sub's and HAD to have one! I searched high and low and finally found a woman on a message board that used to work the deli counter in the late 80's at a K-mart in Dayton, Ohio. This was one of the same stores that my Mom would take me as a kid to get one of these wonderful sub's and a frozen Coke! I used to stand in front of the counter and watch them make these sub's and remembered all but one of the ingredients. Make sure that you wrap your sub's and allow them to sit for 30 minutes before serving or they are not the same. This allows the bread, meat and veggies to show some love to one another. -- posted by Humble Bee

Blackberry Mint Juleps

A Bobby Flay recipe in the March 2009 edition of EveryDay with Rachael Ray. Cooking time is resting time for the blackberry/sugar mixture.
