Olives, Tomatoes, and Zucchini Red Sauce over Fettuccini

A wonderful way to use zucchini and tomatoes! It's great to sit around the table and eat good food, made with love! Feel free to use yellow squash instead or with the zucchini! Adapted fromKatie Brown Entertains cookbook.
Roasted Asparagus With Lemon Vinaigrette --Courtesy Melissa D'ar

Simple, fresh, and bright. Serve warm or cold. Recipe by Melissa d'Arabian, winner of "The Next Food Network Star" 2009. Her show is called "Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa d'Arabian". This recipe is from "Savory Savings" episode. This would be wonderful dish for a picnic. COOKS NOTE: I had more asparagus then the recipe called for so I doubled the Vinaigrette but used only about 3/4 of it. Since you have the whole lemon anyway, you might as well double it. I did not want to saturate the asparagus but felt it needed more. I also used some of the lemon zest as a garnish and served it chilled. It was wonderful... -- posted by JT'sMom

Quinoa Blueberry, Cheddar, and Caraway Rye Cornbread

I just finished baking this glorious cornbread as the apex of my post-exam celebration. Wonderful things happen to your brain when you're 19 and done exams - like figuring out the perfect recipe for wholegrain blueberry herb cornbread! I'm amazing! I'm also a bit of a health nut so the ingredients are really quirky, but I'm sure you can play around with things to some appropriate degree. Be creative! That's the best part. But I hope you'll enjoy this recipe just as much as I have!

Mini Shepherd's Pie-So Good!

A great recipe from Aaron McCargo on Big Daddys' House. On Food Network, this recipe has 52 outstanding reviews! You can sub turkey or even veggie crumbles for the ground beef! Kids can help make this dish and have fun doing it! This can also be made in a 9x13" pan. This is good frozen and microwaved. Great to take in your lunch bag, to a picnic, or to a tailgate party! Enjoy! A little history:
The key to dating Shepherd's pie is the introduction (and acceptance) of potatoes in England. Potatoes are a new world food. They were first introduced to Europe in 1520 by the Spanish. Potatoes did not appeal to the British palate until the 18th Century. (Foods America Gave the World, A. Hyatt Verrill, page 28). Shepherd's Pie, a dish of minced meat (usually lamb, when made with beef it is called "Cottage Pie") topped with mashed potatoes was probably invented sometime in the 18th Century by frugal peasant housewives looking for creative ways to serve leftover meat to their families. It is generally agreed that it originated in the north of England and Scotland where there are large numbers of sheep--hence the name. The actual phrase "Shepherd's Pie" dates back to the 1870s, when mincing machines made the shredding of meat easy and popular." -- posted by Sharon123

Yummy Banana & Dijon Mustard Sandwich -- Really!

This is not a joke recipe, honestly I make it all the time - have done for over 10 years & find it really yummy. When you think about it, it's not all that different from the old classic PB & J..... I love to eat this in thickly sliced soft white bread, it's also tasty in fresh brioche too. You have to use a regular (smooth) Dijon though, it doesn't work with any other mustard.
Warren Leruth's Crabmeat St. Francis

"This was one of the best dishes created by the late Chef Warren LeRuth at his spectacular (New Orleans) restaurant. He told me once that the thing he missed most about not having LeRuth's open anymore was that he couldn't grab one of these at moment's notice. Crabmeat St. Francis is also special in that it's one of the few regular menu items from LeRuth's for which the chef ever published the recipe. At that, it only came out a few years ago, in the little cookbook they do every year at the Chef's Charity
for Children. (Another reason to go!) I find this recipe fascinating in that it uses ingredients and techniques generally left behind by latter-day gourmet chefs. Despite that, this is a dish that knows few peers."

Blueberry Lavender Pie Filling for Canning

Enjoy a taste of summer in the middle of the winter with this easy canning recipe. The following is for one quart jar, which easily fills one pie. Multiply it to use as many berries as you can get your hands on. I also add fresh lavender flowers since I've got a great local lavender farm, but if you do, please be careful to use them sparingly as they can quickly overpower the berry taste. If you are unsure on how to use lavender, read up online first. *DO NOT SUBSTITUTE CLEAR JEL*! This is important. You probably won't find it at your local grocery store, but you can easily order it online. I found mine at a specialty candy and cake decorating store. -- posted by PDXChef

My dog is picky, PERIOD! Who knew what I was getting myself into when we got the fluff ball! He is horribly picky and gets diarrhea from most canned dog foods. After trying TONS of different types, I finally researched homemade dog foods. This recipe was the first and the last we will ever use. He no longer gets diarrhea and can't wait for dinner time! We have been using it for about 2 years and our vet says he eats better than she does! It makes ALOT so I freeze week portions in freezer bags, it will feed him for 5 1/2 weeks! -- posted by Rollin in the Dough!

Ultimate Cheese Dip

My friend Cheryl gave me this recipe - the saying is around our town if Cheryl makes it, it's got to be good. She first made it for a superbowl party. My team wasn't playing, I was just there for the food:) .... and boy was it worth it!

And to top it off it's SUPER easy, but tastes like you labored. If you don't like watching sports on TV, my suggestion is to make this, set it out for the guys mezmerized by your tv, and hit the mall. Chances are you'll be back before they even know you are gone.

This recipe is simple, make it once, then next time, change it up, add different cheeses, or whatever strikes your fancy. But made as written..............yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm -- posted by velvet_sj

Realistic Fake Blood

I learned how to make this while working at a haunted house. I've made it every year since. There are no specific measurements to this recipe so all measurements are loose guidelines. You also have two different colors off blood. The first color is when blood touches oxygen, which is the color you see when you cut yourself. You can get this color with only 1-2 drops of blue food coloring. The second color is when blood has not touched air. You normally see this color when blood is drawn into a test tube. you can get this color by adding 2-5 drops of blue food coloring. You can add chunky peanut butter to it, it gives it a nice gory texture, it also makes it taste pretty good. Don't let the colors mentioned here curb your imagination. You could make alien, robot, plant, or zombie blood as well just by using different combinations of colors. Take note that the food coloringin the blood will stain fabric, also when the blood dries it is very sticky so take note of your hands when touching near areas where it has been applied. -- posted by Spire

Star Gazy Pie

This is from a Cornwall Tourism website. The original version had unintelligible grammar, so I've taken the liberty of correcting that.

Star Gazy Pie is a dish unique to Mousehole (a fishing village in West Cornwall with a most beautiful harbour). Prepared in the Ship Inn, eaten on 23rd December (Tom Bawcock's Eve). Long ago, winter storms had prevented the fishing boats putting to sea. In a lull of the bad weather, one fisherman (Tom Bawcock) managed to catch enough fish to prevent the village from starving. A pie of many fishes was made from the catch: Star Gazy Pie. -- posted by Cecily Parsley

I just made some yesterday, chilled it overnight to marry the flavors, and am SO looking forward to tasting it for dinner tonight! You do NOT have to rest it OVERNIGHT. It can be eaten as soon as ready!

Red and Black Candy Apples

This is a fabulous Halloween creation that I fell in love with and had to keep safe (as in not losing the recipe!). It's from mattbites.com (http://mattbites.com/2009/10/13/adams-scary-apples/) and I unashamedly stole it word for word. You'll find some amazing photo's of these apples there too. All credit goes to Matt and Adam, and they deserve it in truckloads!

"*A Note About The Black Apples:* Lighter colored apples (Granny Smith, Golden Delicious) work well in making the red appear bright and glassy; darker apples like red delicious help the black candy appear as dark as possible. Muy spooky!

Also, Adam made one batch with red food coloring and after he had a few red apples he reheated the candy mixture and added black food coloring. Adding black to red will make it darker. He repeated the dipping process. Black food coloring can be found online or at specialty baking stores."
Do Not take the times I gave as gospel they are a complete guess. IMPORTANT:

Chicken 65 Curry

This sticky, spicy chicken curry is deliciously sweet and packs just the right amount of heat. It is to be scooped up with warm, chewy naan, then licked off of fingers.Your first step is to hunt down some curry leaves. Their flavour is irreplaceable in this dish - a bit nutty, warm, and citrusy. Used a lot in South Indian cooking, they have nothing to do with “curry powder” which is a blend of spices.Start by browning the chicken in a heavy skillet - make sure the oil is good and hot and the chicken has been patted dry before you put it in the pan. Don’t flip it until it releases easily - if it is sticking, leave it - it will tear if you try and turn it before it is ready. Next, cook the onions gently over low heat for about 10 minutes to coax out the sweetness. Then add the spices to the pan to saute before the liquid is added. These three steps have a big flavour impact.
As far as curries go, the ingredient list is very short. Which makes it a great curry for beginners, if you can track down some curry leaves at an Indian grocer.
Injera (Ethiopian Flatbread)

This is a sour, spongy bread from Ethiopia, served at nearly every meal. In the homeland this bread is made as a sourdough. This recipe is a modification for America kitchens by Marcus Samuelsson. Lay a piece of it on the hugest plate you have. In the center of it put a dipper of your finest, zestiest, most mouthwatering stew. Now, eat the stew tearing off pieces of the bread from the sides & scooping up the stew. Need another piece of injera?! Sure! It could take 2 or 3 pieces to scoop up all that wonderful stew. -- posted by lwatkins

Bacon Caramels

“Where would we be without salt?” – James Beard
I casually sprinkled the thick-cut Hempler’s bacon with cayenne before frying to a nearly blackened crisp. Once the caramel had reached its perfect molten temperature I stirred in a handful of the bacon then reserved the rest to get sprinkled on top. The caramel set beautifully. Some were cut and served as is while a select few were covered in tempered dark chocolate. All of them were devoured.

Buffalo Chicken Jalapeno Poppers

This recipe was featured on the Rachel Ray show in October, 2009 as a quick and healthier version of the traditional popper. It's a very spicy, yet savory version of the appetizer. The original recipe calls for 18-20 jalapeno peppers, but I just used 10 and cut them in half to use both halves to fill. It also called for rotisserie chicken, but I substituted with chicken breast to cut down on cost and time. -- posted by CrunkFrack

Cook time is about the time it takes to cook the potatoes. -- posted by Sharon123

Rich and Chewy Pecan Pie Muffins!

This recipe came from Trisha Yearwood, who married Garth Brooks and wrote a cookbook called Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma kitchen with a forward by Garth Brooks himself! Gotta try these! :) Be sure to use paper liners in the muffin tins and spray them with nonstick spray; otherwise, they will crumble when you peel off the liners. This recipe also makes great mini muffins; just shorten the baking time by 5 minutes. You might also try using oat flour instead of all purpose for a healthier muffin. -- posted by Sharon123

The Realtor's Dijon Fried Onions for Burgers and Steaks

My BF saw something like this on Rachel Ray's show. She didn't remember the recipe exactly and we couldn't find it on the internet so this is what we came up with and it's awesome! We love it on grilled burgers, cheese steak sandwiches and steaks. The dijon adds something really special to the onions. I also make this with spicy brown mustard and love it that way, too. -- posted by Realtor by day, Chef by night

This is a great, easy way to bake small cakes for 2 people. They're a fun project for kids and adults alike. I have several "little" recipes for cakes and desserts for just 2 people and all of them can be baked in tin cans using this technique. Here are a few of them: recipe #369222, recipe #369220, and recipe #369159 -- posted by Realtor by day, Chef by night

Guinness Cupcakes

Nigella Lawson's Guinness Cake is much talked about. This is a downsized version of my adaptions to her recipe, perfect for making 12 delicious cupcakes that look like miniature pints of Guinness. It's a bit of a grown up delicacy, the flavours might be a little rich for young kids, but chocoaholics and Guinness lovers will be delighted. -- posted by Jillsybean
