Crunchy Thai Salad

Here's a healthy and tasty way to get your veggies. This makes an easy appetiser for four people or you can turn it into a main dish for two by serving a piece of cod or thinly sliced pork fillet over the top. I also like a jalapeno pepper in my salad, but beware -- because this dish is not cooked the jalapeno adds a lot of heat! -- posted by Sackville

Green Papaya Salad

This is my version of a traditional Thai raw salad with a mildly spicy seasoning. I acquired the original recipe from the Blue Elephant Cooking School. The dried shrimp does tend to give this dish a strong flavour. Like my fellow garlic lovers here at Zaar, the first time I made this I used more than one clove of garlic, 3 to be exact, but in this dish to much garlic becomes overpowering and one misses out on the wonderful combination of flavours. -- posted by Chrissyo

Lemon - Lime Congealed Salad

This makes a great dessert. My grandmother and I would always make this for the holidays. It doesn’t really seem too appetizing but it really is and it’s very easy. I usually put it in a Pyrex dish, hope you enjoy. -- posted by kalaei1019

Mexican Cocktail Appetizer

Adapted from the Restaurant “Hook Line & Sinker” in Dallas, Texas.

While in Dallas on business we run into the always busy Hook Line & Sinker (located at 3103 Lemmon Ave.) and order the Mexican Cocktail our favorite appetizer – you can order it “Spicy” or “Regular”. I have dreams about this appetizer way down in Lake Charles, LA (where I live) – so my boss and I went to duplicate the recipe. One of the waiters shared the tidbit about the “special” sauce! I know it sounds strange to use the soda and ketchup; trust me it is delicious! -- posted by LolaB

Avocado With Lime and Chilies

I love an avocado salad nomatter what, but this one is particularly refreshing.

The lime dressing will keep for 3-5 days in a covered container in the refrigerator. If limes are unavailable, use lemons instead. You can also cut the avocado into cubes or make into balls with a melon baller (the avocado must be firm), pour over the dressing as indicated and serve as an appetizer. -- posted by Valeria

Shrimp & Avocado Salad With Mango Dressing

In Middle Quarters, a village on the southern coast of Jamaica, roadside stands serve sweet shrimp simmered in peppery broth. Inspired by this, Bradford Thompson simmers shrimp in a fragrant broth made with lager, chile and fresh ginger, then serves them with avocado and a light mango dressing for a great salad.
Citrus-Marinated Mushrooms (Cooking Light)

Spicy Lobster-Noodle Salad

Recipe by Jean-Georges Vongerichten for Food & Wine Magazine." Pairing of the Day, Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Easy Island Cooking" published January 2009.This cellophane-noodle salad, with creamy avocados, crunchy peanuts and a chile-honey dressing, is an excellent
showcase for Caribbean spiny lobsters. Also known as rock lobsters, they are sweet but can be slightly dense. This recipe uses Maine lobsters; they’re more tender than spiny lobsters—and just as delicious. :) -- posted by Manami
