Sunday's Best Rice Pudding (Traditional Style)

In memory of my dad who used to take me to Pickwick Restaurant for rice pudding every Sunday afternoon. This is the closest recipe I could find to that which was served at the restaurant: Creamy with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. Delicious whether served warm or cold with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Also, if prepared ahead, rice pudding makes a quick breakfast in case you're too much in a hurry to make oatmeal. -- posted by Rachael Potter

Sweet and Savory Squash Stew

This recipe combines some of the most iconic tastes of fall--butternut and acorn squash, sweet potato, apple--in a sweet and savory pot of deliciousness. I recommend serving with a dollop of sour cream. And cornbread.

All amounts for seasonings are estimates--I tend to season as I go and according to taste; I have a feeling these are underestimates. I will be sure to update the next time I make this with adjusted amounts. I used a smoked (pre-cooked) ham steak for this; I have also made it with other kinds of ham, with turkey sausage, and without meat altogether with positive results. -- posted by Tlharin

Warming Celery & Carrot Soup

A smooth and creamy soup with just a little "bite" for those colder days. Cooked in a microwave with not too much labour input beyond preparation of the veg.

The basic recipe was a favourite from our old Sanyo microwave cookbook from more than twenty years ago.

Note:
For more or less "bite", add or take away one tablespoon of the Love Apple Sauce as you desire.
If Love Apple sauce is not available a substitute can be made by combining 1 tbsp Tomato Ketchup with 1 tsp Jerk Sauce. -- posted by Schemin Demon

i made this from leftover roast chicken and leftover leek and potatoe soup (vegan), so my measurements are an estimate really, but use your initiative if it needs more water add more etc etc. intermediate cooks will get the idea, also you can add a dash of wine or lemon juice would be nice in this. The old lady (lillian) who we used to look after used to add a tin of campbells condensed chicken soup to her stew, you would do this, one day ill out on her roast chicken casserole and roast pheasent. -- posted by pornstarbarbie

Buffalo Chicken Won Tons

This is a slightly different version of the Buffalo Chicken Won Tons already posted here. I checked out the others and they weren't really what I was looking for, so I came up with this by mixing Buffalo Chicken Dip with my love of using won ton wrappers for a variety of fun finger foods. You may sub ranch dressing for the bleu if you prefer. This is super easy to make and when I served it at a get together last night, I got rave reviews. The chicken breast portion is an estimate. I used one large chicken breast half, poached in seasoned water and chopped. You may use more or less, depending on your preference. -- posted by MarlaM

The greatest way to make chili with deer meat.

You can adjust this recipe to suit your preferences, but the key is using the pork sausage to give you the fatty flavor that you miss with the lean deer meat. I plan to tweek by reducing the salt content (using Bragg's amino rather than soy and leaving out the salt), reducing the fat and increasing the tofu (several reviewers on VegWeb have done this and liked it).
Molten Dark Chocolate Cakes

From All For You magazine - Sept 2009

The beauty of the ckaes is that their centers stay much softer than the outer layer. To avoid losing their molten interiors, be sure to not overbake them. If that happens, you can still eat them, but the centers will be firm instead of soft. If you are neverous about inverting the cakes, don't do it. You can serve them in their ramekins.

- You can prepare the cakes up to a day in advance. Make the batter, spoon it into ramekins, cover each with foil and refrigerate. When you're ready to serve, remove foil and bake cakes for 14 minutes.
- Add fruit. You can serve with fresh strawberries, raspberries, cherries or a combo. A simple fruit sauce can be serve (blending a handful of berries agalong with a couple of tablespoons sugar and teaspoon of lemon juice in a blender / food processor, then straining the liquid through a sieve before using.
- Serve with whipped cream. Spruce up the whipped cream with few teaspoons of honey or dash amaretto, creme de methe or another favourite liqueur. -- posted by Engelis

Spanish Potato Tortilla

Another classic, best served warm or cold at room temperature but never hot. It goes great with summer salads but often I just eat it on its own, picking at it throughout the day. In Spain it is sacrilege to grill the top, you're supposed to flip it over and cook it all over the heat of the hob. I think this causes too many problems and I can't tell much difference in taste anyway. Better to have it neatly turned out onto a plate than try and put the pieces back together I reckon! The olive oil is essential here and really adds something special I think. Don't think of this as an omelette (potato omelette, how boring!) This is a potato dish, and now you shall enjoy :) -- posted by robd16

Curried Cider Pork Stew (Bhg)

This recipe is VERY autumnal, and also a little bit quirky. I was a little bit worried about the flavor profile (squash? curry? apples?), but it all comes together beautifully.

I made changes from the original Better Homes and Gardens recipe, which you might want to consider doing as well. I used two 16-ounce packages of already diced butternut squash--much easier! I also added more chicken broth (probably close to a whole 32-ounce carton), more cider, and added garlic and red pepper flakes. -- posted by juniperwoman

Salty-Sweet Butter Pecan Cookies

OMG delicious! Addictive! The salty-sweet with the pecans and butterscotch is just the best! Found it on the King Arthur Flour site. The recipe noted - "If you're making smaller (teaspoon cookie scoop-sized) cookies, increase the coating to 1/2 cup (3 1/2 ounces) granulated sugar mixed with 1 3/4 to 2 teaspoons salt."
Nice tips at the site too (like chilling versus not chilling dough & more or less salt) - http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/salty-sweet-butter-pecan-cookies-recipe .

Cheesy Chicken Ranch Sandwiches

Each sandwich is filled with an entire chicken breast. No one will leave the table hungry! The recipes directs you to broil the sanwiches. But I prefer to bake them the way the Barefoot Contessa does, so I have included her directions. Baking them makes the breasts so very moist and luscious! However broiling does take less time -- 10 to 12 minutes total. Either way, you will enjoy these sandwiches. -- posted by Lorraine of AZ

I can assure you that these are no ordinary taco. These are FRIED beef and potato tacos. After they're cooked, you have to throw on some cheddar cheese and let it melt into the taco meat. Very cheesilicious. Just in case you're wondering, they're fattening -- and oh-so-good! -- posted by Cooking Ventures

Cinnamon Rolls from Heaven

Yes, this recipe was sent straight from heaven. They do take some time, but it is well worth it! I usually make one pan with walnuts and one without. This recipe makes a glaze instead of frosting. I didn't think I would like a cinnamon roll without the cream cheese frosting...but this is ten times better! -- posted by Chef #1458822
