Chunky Plum and Cinnamon Jam

This luxury jam has a Christmassy feel to it but not so much so that you couldn't enjoy it year round. There aren't many fruits that I prefer cooked, but this is one of them and its great spread on buttered toast. If you don't like cinnamon then by all means leave it out but it does complement the plum flavour without taking over. Jam making is easy and fun so have a go. . . -- posted by robd16

Gourmet Cabbage Butter - Transform Your Greens!

This recipe is for a flavoured butter that turns the humble cabbage into a gourmet delight! Seriously, you'll be fighting over the last piece and you'll make sure that you cook double the next time I promise! This is by far the best way to serve cabbage, it is unbelievably good. The recipe is for 250g butter, you can store the rest in the freezer or adjust quantities to suit. The anchovies do not impart a fishy flavour at all and act more like a seasoning, as do the other ingredients. It's hard to put your finger on what the flavour really is, except damn good greens! Serving size is for the whole amount of butter and not for 1 cabbage. You must cook the cabbage according to the instructions set out below. Amazing. -- posted by robd16

Sarasota's Sweet/Spicy Ham Steaks With Fall Fruits

Easy and quick ham steaks with a spicy glaze. Takes just minutes on a grill pan or even in a saute pan. Serve with some sliced grilled onions and marinated grilled fruit on the side, I like to use pears and apples. This is literally takes 2 minutes to make the glaze, 5 minutes for the ham and 5 for the fruit. Saute some spinach and microwave a sweet potato for 2 quick side dishes. Stuff the potato with some brown sugar and butter and you having an amazing quick dinner. You could easily serve this for company or just a quick midweek dinner. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Chinese Pineapple Chicken With Cashew Nuts, Ginger, Spring Onion

This is sure to satisfy all your cravings for Chinese food, it's a great recipe. Be brave with the ginger, it mellows out as it cooks and is helped along by the sweetness of the dish. The cashew nuts are optional but I am yet to make it without them as I love their crunchy texture and creamy taste. Be sure to serve it with plenty of white fluffy rice. Quicker than waiting for takeout. -- posted by robd16

I love these melting-in-your-mouth cookies! For chewier cookies, refrigerate the dough beforehand and bake it for a shorter period. For crispier ones, bake the dough longer or refrigerate the baked cookies. They'll flatten out during baking so leave enough space between them. -- posted by littlemafia

Sarasota's English Muffin Shrimp Pizzas

These are great little pizzas. I created this one night after wondering what to do with a bunch of leftovers. I had some leftover shrimp from a Mexican party a few days back that I had froze, some Queso Blanco which is a great Mexican cheese (similar to feta, but not as salty), and my favorite, green salsa (salsa verde) - so what to make. PIZZA! I had seen something in a magazine that used salsa verde, so I though why not. Well, it was late, nothing open and no pizza crust, so we used English muffins. I had a spicy Mexican sausage and bean soup I was planning on serving anyways, so this was perfect. Three (3) years later, I make these little pizzas all the time, and always serve it with my spicy Mexican sausage and bean soup. It has become a regular meal that everyone loves. Grilling the shrimp to me really makes a difference, the cilantro vs parsley, and the queso blanco if possible really adds a lot to the whole dish. All my local Mexican markets and main grocery stores carry the green salsa (salsa verde) in the Mexican or Ethnic aisle, as well as the Queso Blanco in the gourmet cheese aisle. It is well worth it. This would be great idea for a "Mexican Nite" with friends. Some margaritas, soup, and some spicy dip to start things off. Have someone bring dessert and play some cards or watch a movie, for a fun night with friends with hardly no work or clean up. My type of party! Quick NOTE: You can always use regular pizza crust for this if you want - I just like these for a change. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Hot Shot Cinnamon Overload

Sometimes I just want a strong cinnamon coffee with no other flavors added this was made for just such a time. This is goodness in it’s purest form but, of course, the amount of liqueur is easily adjustable to personal taste, if you like less or more, just make it as you like it. I prefer it hot but it would be quite adaptable to being made as an iced coffee also. Please note that any cinnamon liqueur that you like will work just fine. -- posted by Annacia

Perfect Cake-Mix Cupcakes

This recipe is from the book "Hello, Cupcake!" by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson. You may have seen this pair on Paula Deen's cooking show. They did not merely frost their cupcakes, they decorated 3 of them to look like a Thanksgiving dinner: the turkey, the mashed potatoes and gravy, and the carrots and peas. They commented at the time that they always use buttermilk rather than the water called for on the box, to give their cupcakes a fresher, more homemade flavor. They also used more eggs than called for on the box to give the cupcakes a firmer structure that can stand up to more decorating without tearing. Cupcakes made this way may be made a day ahead as they stay moist if wrapped in plastic. They also suggested that you use cake mixes for cupcakes that do not have pudding in the mix and avoid lighter cake mixes (such as angel food) which would not hold up when decorated. Using these hints, they baked cupcakes that Paula Deen just raved over!! -- posted by Lorraine of AZ
