Hannah's Caesar Salad Croûtons

Rub the inside of your salad bowl with a clove of garlic. Throw in a bag of romaine lettuce. Add freshly ground pepper and about 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Add these super delicious croûtons. (We don't even wait for them to cool.) Top it all off with Creamy Caesar Dressing to complete your salad. Yum. These croûtons are great made with day old French bread, but they taste great even when I just use up the heels or last couple of slices of bread in a loaf. -- posted by CTRmom

Shortcut Filipino-Style Ensaymada Especial

For those far from the Philippines and nostalgic for Ensaymada Especial, this is a quick, easy, & very tasty way to experience it. I got the idea for using Hawaiian sweet rolls (if you have access to it---available @ WalMart) when I visited a food blog several years ago. I have since improved on the recipe by adding shredded mild cheddar cheese and prepackaged sweet diced ham (John Morrell brand) to give it that extra-special touch. -- posted by chef1aB

Texas Toast

I love Texas Toast and this is a recipe to make it at home. Known for its hearty thickness, Texas Toast is often served with ribs and other grilled meats and barbecue sauce. You can spread softened butter on both sides of the bread instead of using the cooking spray. If you don't have seasoned salt on hand, you can use garlic salt instead. You can also add cheese.
Pancakes--Healthy, but They'll Never Know!

The dry ingredients can be mixed up in large volume, stored in the fridge or freezer to retain freshness, and used as a substitute for Bisquick for things like muffins, biscuits, etc. Bisquick contains shortening so be sure to add enough fat to compensate (generally, 1/4 C per 2 cups baking mix). I buy all the dry ingredients at my local natural foods store; they're sold in bulk and are both cheaper and fresher than supermarket varieties. -- posted by firefly68

Harvest Grain Blend for Bread

I was inspired by the Harvest Grain Blend that King Arthur Flour sells, but being in Canada, the cost of shipping is prohibitive enough to make me come up with my own version. Add 1/2 to 2/3 cup to your favourite bread for extra crunch, flavour, and nutrition! I suggest replacing 2 tbsp of each cup of flour with the mixture as a starting point. I've also added some barley flakes and 7 grain cereal to my mix. Store in a tightly sealed container. Another way to use the mix is to make a "soaker", which you do by pouring 1 cup of hot water over 2/3 cup of the mix, and allowing it to soak overnight. Then add this to your bread mix, ensuring to subtract out the 1 cup of water and 2/3 cup of flour from the recipe you're working with. -- posted by Katzen

Golden Potato Rolls

Or try changing the mashed potatoes to mashed yam and changing the sugar to honey for a healthy twist.
Make sure you let the rolls rise well, though - otherwise they won't be quite the large rolls you want -- posted by Chef #1342906

This rich oilive oil dough can be used to make a variety of flatbreads, pizza, calzones, lavash, naan and focaccia. Mix enough dough for several loaves and store in the refrigerator for up to 12 days. The fruitier the olive oil the better the flavor. This recipe come from the Artesian Bread in Five Minutes a Day cookbook. Use this dough to make: Recipe #310451 or Recipe #388861 or Recipe #387527 or Recipe #387678 or how about Recipe #387780. UPDATE 9/09: used this crust to make a Recipe #363140 on the grill Recipe #322248 and it was fantastic!
Sour Cream Biscuits

Do you ever crave homemade biscuits, but it feels like too much effort to prepare them? This recipe is from Betty Crocker's Old-Fashioned Cookbook. Throw in some chives or cheddar cheese for variety, but this only requires baking mix (like Bisquick) and sour cream. I used an Arrowhead Mills Organic Buckwheat Mix because it's what I had, and it made a heartier biscuit (still delicious), but I did need to add a little milk to it because the Buckwheat was so much heavier than white flour. Enjoy! -- posted by AmyZoe

Lemonade Scones

I found this recipe on a blog site. It sounded really good and easy so I wanted to post it. Recipe is by Chris Chun.
Serve with strawberry/ raspberry jam and whipped cream. Also good with a cup of tea or coffee.
Want to try something a little different? Put a little lemon zest, basil or mint in for that extra zing! Try using Ginger ale for a nice change of flavor. You could just use soda/carbonated water and flavor the scones as you would like (half a cup.) -- posted by sexymommalucas

Savory Muffins With Goat Cheese, Rosemary and Kalamata Olives

Savory muffins to serve with soups, a big salad or on their own for healthy snacking. This recipe was in Pam Anderson's CookSmart column in the USA Weekend paper, Feb 20, 2009. If you want something delectable and nourishing and don't mind messing up four or more different bowls, this recipe is a lucious hit every time. I replace the sugar with agave or leave it out sometimes. These freeze fine, if well-packaged, to add quick pizzazz to a dinner for many or just take one out to reheat solo. I believe this is from her newest (fifth) cookbook called "The Perfect Recipe for Losing Weight and Eating Great".
I am so addicted to these waffles, I eat them every morning, and then crave them the rest of the day. I will make a batch, then freeze the leftovers. When I am ready to eat them, I just pop them into the toasted straight from the freezer. Just be sure that the first time you make them, not to make them overly brown. Serve with maple syrup, butter/margarine, whipped cream. Whatever you like. I usually just spread on a little bit of strawberry jam.
Blizzard Bread

We have a lot of snow days in N.E. Pennsylvania. So, we sprinkle a little snow on our French Toast too. Well, not real snow, but confectionery sugar is a great substitute. When snow is in the forecast, you have a hard time finding bread, eggs, and milk on grocery shelves. Get them early! Why? Because along with snowy days...comes comfort food - French Toast for breakfast. It's also a favorite for sleepovers. The kids always request Blizzard Bread for breakfast, even if it's 100 degrees outside. -- posted by ChaCha3

Chewy Flour Tortillas

I found this recipe on texascooking.com. I altered it a bit to use half whole wheat, and found the dough too dry, so upped the oil content. I also use a press instead of rolling them out--far easier. These are soft, chewy, and delicious. Perfect for gorditas or fajitas, though we usually just eat them out of hand. I cook mine on my griddle, since it tolerates being heated for a long period with no oil on it. If you like large tortillas, you can divide the dough to fewer balls. -- posted by Jujubegirl
