Kurdish Lemonade

For best results you will need Omani Lemons which are in fact sun dried limes. In Persian the same name is used for limes and lemons (limoo). Lemon would be called "limoo zard" (yellow lime). So when they translate, they call both limes and lemons "lemon". It is known to Persians that when you say "dried lemons" in English, you really mean "sun dried limes." you can get them at most Middle Eastern/Turkish store. -- posted by Stacia_

Homemade Ginger Ale

Homemade soda is so much better for you then store bought and this is really fun! What a great way to entertain kids and keep them busy on a rainy day! This can be lots of fun for kids and a fun way for them to learn science and math. Let them experiment by adding different herbs and spices to achieve all different kinds of results. I can see this being a very popular science fair project or even a cool home school project! Resting time is not listed in cooking time. Must 'cook' for two days. -- posted by mama's kitchen

Limoncello

Traditionally served in the hot summer months, this also makes an excellent sipper during the cooler months of fall and winter when you may want to reminisce with a taste of summer. This is so easy to make--just make sure to plan ahead because it does take some time. It also makes a fantastic hostess gift or stocking stuffer. If you can find Meyer lemons, use them in this recipe; they add a wonderfully fruity flavor and aroma to the finished drink. If they are not available, standard-issue lemons from the grocery will work out just fine. Make sure your lemons are washed well to remove any stamping or wax; and when removing the zest, long strips work out best and are easiest to strain out of the finished product.
EXTRA: To get the most out of your lemons, juice them after removing the zest. Strain out the seeds, freeze the juice in ice cube trays and then transfer to a freezer bag. They will keep for several months and each cube will yield about a tablespoon of juice whenever you need it.
Enjoy ice-cold as is or mix with club soda or sparkling wine; also tasty drizzled over fresh fruit or sliced pound cake for a quick dessert. -- posted by Hungry Hogareno

Prohibition Party Punch

This recipe is from an old cookbook I found. Homemade wine or beer was legal as long as it contained no more than one-half per cent alcohol. From Every Woman's Cook Book by Mrs. Chas. F. Moritz (1926) p. 617. If you can find a bootlegger in your area, I think some rum or whiskey would really perk this up. This recipe makes a LOT! Please keep this in mind when preparing this party punch for your local Speakeasy :) -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Barley Water

From "To Set Before a Queen"--a cookbook written by a former cook for Princess Elizabeth's household (Queen Elizabeth before she was crowned, that is). It's an interesting cookbook, with some good recipes and some interesting anecdotes. She claims that the royal family were all "addicted" to this recipe. She also says that this is the recipe she was given to use at Clarence House. I've tried it and like it quite well myself. Posting here as it's an older cookbook and I don't want to lose the recipe. Since the rinds are used, it's best if you can find organic fruits without oils or waxes or chemicals on the rinds. Failing that, be sure to clean them very well--I soak them in vinegar water, then rinse them under very hot water. I can't recall the amount you get at the end, so I am estimating. Times don't include cooling time. -- posted by Halcyon Eve

Apple Mint Tea

I love tea. I love apples. This only makes sense for them to come together in this great tea. This makes enough to serve to others, but I usually end up saving it all for myself. You can drink it hot, just skip the step about the ice. I prefer this particular tea over ice though. I sometimes add a bit of honey as well. Note that you need 1/2 cup of mint leaves, plus 4 sprigs of mint for garnish. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Sardo Punch

Mirto means myrtle in English. The myrtle bush has small pointy leaves, and dark berries similar to wild huckleberries.I don't know exactly what's in mirto, I think that the term is used interchangably for foods flavored with the leaves or the berries. From Healthy Italian Hors d’Oeuvres published in the October 2008 edition of F&W Magazine. They say that Amaro means bitter in Italian & the quintessential after dinner cordial ;) so a punch made with it can't be bad. Saw this recipe and am putting it here for safekeeping. Watch out it can be lethal!!! -- posted by Manami

Nirvana Lemonade - You'll Only Want This Lemonade 4eva!!!!

OMG! My friend in Germany took my to a Thai restaurant that had lemonade with ginger and basil. I thought to myself "What a wacky combination!" So I decided to try it. OMG! OMG! The ground moved, the clouds parted and I heard angel voices singing in 4 part harmony. It was that good.

This, is as close as I can come to replicate that glass of beverage perfection I found in Germany. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.
Amaretto Sweet and Sour

I was craving an amaretto sour sooo bad but was unsure how exactly to make one and none of the recipes here on Zaar sounded quite right so I made up my own. You can adjust the sweet to sour ratio to your tastes by adding more lemon juice or more simple syrup. I know this isn't traditional but it's darn good. Serving size is approximate. I used a tall 'pepsi' glass per person but you could easily split into two smaller glasses. Enjoy. -- posted by Bekah49036

Purple Basil Lemonade

From Cooking Light Magazine's July 2009 edition: "In this recipe, basil is crushed with sugar to release the oils. If you don't have a mortar and pestle, process the basil, sugar and about 1/4 cup of water in a food processor or blender." I am eager to serve this at my next party. The recipe doesn't indicate this, but I would personally place the strained lemonade into a pitcher and refrigerate until ready to serve. When having a party, it's always best to prepare ahead if possible! -- posted by MarthaStewartWanabe

Old-Fashioned Lemon Verbena Lemonade Syrup

Pull up a hammock, select a good book and make a jug of this cooling lemonade to refresh you as you gently sway and wile away the long, hot hours! A simple zingy lemonade syrup that is added to water to dilute and is compulsory for hot, humid days! Lemon Verbena is one of my favourite herbs and is a welcome addition to my walled herb garden here in France. The syrup is also amazing if poured over ice creams and summer berries for a tangy citrus flavour. Add an attractive label and a sprig of lemon verbena leaves for a thoughtful summer gift. -- posted by French Tart

Lavender, Lemon and Honey Tea from Wolds Way Lavender Farm

A wonderful recipe that I discovered on a recipe card from Wold's Way Lavender Farm in North Yorkshire, England! This magical lavender farm is just down the road from my parent's house and is high on my "must visit" list when I go home to England. I have found that this tea is a miracle worker for headaches, head colds and colds in general........the soothing honey helps sore throats whilst the lemon contains essential vitamin C, and the lavender provides a calming and refreshing element to this herbal tea or tisane. Although this is mainly served hot, I have made this during the summer months as an iced tea, as it's perfect for hot, sultry days. -- posted by French Tart

This is another gem of a recipe that I discovered on a recipe card from Wolds Way Lavender Farm in North Yorkshire, England – which is just 10 minutes from my parent's cottage. The delicately flavoured drink is the perfect way to unwind after a long, hard day........It is almost better than Pimms, and, as Pimms is my favourite summertime tipple, that is really saying something! Sit back, relax, sip and enjoy! -- posted by French Tart
