Old-Fashioned Vegetable Beef Soup

Better than Campbell's but just as comforting! Loosely based on a gourmet cooking magazine's recipe for Beef Barley soup, I didn't have any barley or okra, so I added root veggies to make it more hearty, like a rich broth with the chunkyness of stew. It turned out to be the best soup I've ever made!
Cheesy Broccoli Bacon Chicken Casserole

I created this dish to use the broccoli I had bought for the first time in my life (used to hate the stuff!) and to fit my parents' low carb diet. The fastest way to pre-cook the broccoli, chicken and bacon is by using a combination of the microwave and stovetop. I cooked the bacon and chicken in the microwave--separately--and I steamed the broccoli--but you could also nuke the broccoli and saute the other two). -- posted by Picholine

Cheese Ham Buns

anyone like ham and cheese alot, this recipe is the cheese buns you buy in the store (Except homemade) taken up a step by adding ham. It's yummy having the ham rolled in w/ the cheese, simple too. Actually to make it even easier if you have a breadmaker make a 2pd loaf on dough cycle and use that, saves seven steps. I found this online and am sorry i don't know what the site was b/c kudos to the person who put this on it. -- posted by hotmomma Temple

Italian Spaghetti Sauce With Sausage and Meatballs

This is one of my favorite recipes to make for friends when we have them over for dinner. Italian is casual, simple to make and inexpensive. Start this early in the day, let it simmer for a few hours and right before the guests arrive, boil your pasta, toast the garlic bread and toss up a Caesar salad...nothing else could be so simple. This recipe makes a full 6 quarts so it will feed an army. It freezes very well so I package the leftovers in containers for simple and delicious weekday meals. -- posted by Carrie September

Beef Chuck Roast Stew (baby Food)

My 1 year old loves this stew. I made this for her at about 10 months old. Easy to puree and freeze. One stop meal. Not bad for adults either - even without any seasoning. Just make sure your baby has been introduced to all the ingredients before serving. Servings are approximate. I calculated 3 cubes per serving - your little one might eat more or less depending on age. Add pasta or rice if you want to include a whole grain to the meal. -- posted by Trixyinaz

Apple Turkey Fingers (For Older Infants & Toddlers)

Inspired by the classic (and kid-friendly) combo of apples & turkey, I concocted these tonight for my 9 month old and liked them so much I might end up eating them myself! Perfect for older babies and toddlers (serve with a fun dipping sauce), these make cute little "fingers" in perfect take-one-out-of-the-freezer-at-a-time portions. I used half an egg (if your child is over 12 mos. you can use more - I limited the egg white for infants) and unprocessed bran (for a nutritional boost) for binding. Enjoy, babies and grown-ups alike! -- posted by Kishka

The Most Wonderful Beef and Vegetable Soup!

Old English Posh Picnic Raised Chicken and Ham Pie

I will not pretend that this pie is easy or quick to make, however, if you want to impress your friends or family with a sensational "posh" English raised pie then this is the recipe for you! Tender chunks of chicken with pork sausage meat and ham are encased in crisp hot water crust pastry, liberally seasoned with spices and herbs; this pie makes a simply stunning centrepiece for any Glyndebourne style picnic event or for a special celebratory cold buffet, such as weddings, christenings or anniversaries. The pastry used in this pie recipe is hot water crust pastry, which is a direct descendant of "coffer" paste that was used to encase and protect meat whilst it cooked centuries ago – the pies then being called “coffyns”! The pastry is shaped by hand whilst it is still warm, and is excellent for using with intricate pie moulds - the technique is known as "hand raised" and pies made this way are called "raised pies". The pastry is easy to make, but MUST be kept warm whilst you are using it - I keep mine warm over a pan of simmering water. This pastry is excellent for all types of traditional raised pies, such as Game pies, Pork pies and Veal and Ham pies. (Preparation time includes the one day needed for the pie to cool down and then for jellied stock to be added, and then allowing for the jellied stock to set.) -- posted by French Tart

Real Chicken Noodle Soup

This is homemade goodness! I was disappointed by the number of recipes I saw with bouillon or broth in them. My favorite chicken soup is made with a whole chicken, water, and veggies... and the taste is pure and delicious. No MSG or other fillers getting in the way. To make this truly from scratch, you could make your own egg noodles as well (try recipe # 95311) but pre-packaged ones do fine too. Adjust the noodle amount to how you like it... either a lot of noodles or a little. Enjoy this soup when you are under the weather or just as a warm comfort food. We love it served with a nice crusty bread with butter. Oh, and my 2 year old loves this too! It's perfect for little fingers and noodles and veggies are soft for them to chew. -- posted by Dans La Lune

Frozen Baby Meal 4 of 6 (Chicken & Broccoli)

This is one of six frozen baby meals I used to make for my son. A friend gave me the combination and with minimal preparation you save yourself time and money. All six are really pretty good and I've made them for myself in a pinch. I would either try to use leftover meat from other dishes I'd prepared or intentionally make extra to use for these meals. My son used to have a three-compartment baby tray with lid and I'd put one or two frozen cubes in the first slot, a little baby vegetable in the second slot and a little baby fruit in the last slot and he was set for lunch. I'd have his tray ready the night before or in the morning and by lunch the frozen cube(s) had almost thawed and just needed a little warming in the microwave. The serving sizes are difficult to determine since it is dependent on the age of the child. -- posted by Queen Puff

My Kids Favourite Pasta Meal.

Despite the fact that my two young children go through picky phases, they have decided that they both LOVE this pasta. DS especially can't get enough of the stuff & I am very happy as it's a healthy, filling meal suitable for all the family. I use the wholewheat tiny pasta shells (sold as conchigliette) but you can use any small pasta really. We like to serve this with a green salad & crusty bread! This is also a nice dish to pulse in the blender for older babies. -- posted by Um Safia

Creamy Chicken and Kabocha Squash Shells

Don't be deceived by the lack of added seasonings. It is full of flavor! Adding the squash makes the whole thing rich and smooth, with a color and consistency similar to Kraft Mac'N'Cheese! Delicious! Even my daughters loved it! (3 yrs & 7 mos) I just took the chicken out for my baby girl, mashed it up, and she couldn't have enough!
This recipe makes a whole stock-pot full, and it's super easy to make, so it's a great one to make and freeze the leftovers. I was going to, but it we scarfed it all up in 2 days! -- posted by Chef #1459874

Annabel Karmel's Chicken and Apple Balls

This is a great finger food recipe for the little ones. I have had a problem getting my little guy to eat protein and this is the first recipe that he has willingly fed himself. Although the recipe calls for two chicken breasts, I took a shortcut and used ground turkey - it was still delicious! I also omitted the stock cube (too much salt!) and used italian bread crumbs instead.

This recipe is much, much easier with a food processor to get finely chopped ingredients that will incorporate nicely into these meatballs.

Also, although this recipe says it makes 20 balls, I made mine much smaller and got closer to 4 dozen. (But then again, I used an entire package of turkey, not just two chicken breasts.) -- posted by Sarah Stewart
