Sweet & Sour Grated Hot Beetroot

This hot mash is a kid's favourite and can be frozen until required. The flavours are unique and will have your diners clamouring for more. If you see red the next day (especially with infants), remember, beetroot is high in fibre.

Try to pick fresh beetroot that still has the leaves intact so that the colour does not leech out whilst cooking. Avoid woody beetroot (check the root tip to see if it snaps. Snaps means GOOD) -- posted by OzeWez

Easy Rice Pudding

Found this on the Real Simple website, but have not had the chance to try it. I have been hoarding rice pudding recipes in hopes of finding that *perfect* one, and this one stood out as unique. I think this could be made vegan if you used soy ice cream or another variant. I'll be using full-fat version Bryers Vanilla Bean when I try it out....Enjoy! -- posted by Blanket Girl

Chicken, Peas and Quinoa Baby Food

This baby food is for older babies who can chew well. I made this recipe up and although I know it is healthy it is not approved by the FDA or a pediatrician. My son loves it and does not have any problem eating or digesting it and that is good enough for me. I use all organic ingredients and freeze it in an ice cube tray. Reheat in the microwave 15 seconds at a time stirring each time. -- posted by Chef Jean

Lovely Lentils (Baby Food)

I have been making baby food and purees for the last 5 months. I love it and baby does too! I was confident baby would turn this recipe down but this is one of his absolute favorites! Credit goes to Annabel Karmel and her fabulous baby food ideas. After preparing a batch of this, I spoon portions into an ice cube tray, flash freeze, remove from trays and then store in bags in the freezer. Two cubes reheated is the perfect portion for a hungry nine month old -- posted by Hadice

The Most Amazing Macaroni and Cheese in the World!

This macaroni and cheese is TO DIE FOR. People inhale it and drool over it as it's cooking, the aroma fills the whole house. Once it's on the table, it's gone in 3 seconds flat. It's pretty much AMAZING, if I do say so myself. DON'T skip any steps or substitute any of the ingredients, you have to make it just as it is for it to be amazing. NOT for the faint of heart! Quite an indulgence (look at the ingredients), but it's COMPLETELY worth it. It's the only way to make macaroni and cheese. -- posted by 'Cause I'm awesome

Homemade Yogurt

Homemade Yogurt is a healthy source of active bacterial cultures that aid in digestion, as well as being high in protein, calcium, and a host of other vitamins and minerals. Despite all the electric yogurt makers on the market, yogurt can be made in your own home for a fraction of the cost of the store bought stuff, without any special equipment (other than a thermometer). Plus, there are no added sugars or preservative, and no packaging waste. I developed this recipe myself and have a site dedicated to homemade yogurt at www.makeyourownyogurt.com.
Refried Beans Made in Olive Oil

I love this recipe. Not only is it easy and cost effective, it is a healthy alternative to the lard that is used in traditional refried beans. This was one of the very first things my son ate as I weened him from formula. The high iron content makes this dish excellent for toddlers and anemia sufferers. This recipe makes enough to use with three or four meals depending on the number of people. I usually divide the batch into thirds and freeze the two I don't need right away. Expect compliments galore when you make this recipe. In fact I think it tastes better than the beans I have had at Mexican restaurants. Enjoy and happy cooking :) -- posted by Leahferne

Baby Food- Chicken, Two Potatoes, and Cheese (Oamc)

Per my pediatrician's guidance, I can now feed my 9 month old meat and cheese. I made this for him and he loves it! I used chicken breasts straight from the freezer that were organic with no added salt from Costco (be careful about how frozen meats are prepared some are full of additives). It made a total of 14 jars filled with 1/2 Cup each. I labeled, dated, and put them in the freezer along with all of the other homemade baby food. -- posted by Chohertz

Real Chicken Noodle Soup

This is homemade goodness! I was disappointed by the number of recipes I saw with bouillon or broth in them. My favorite chicken soup is made with a whole chicken, water, and veggies... and the taste is pure and delicious. No MSG or other fillers getting in the way. To make this truly from scratch, you could make your own egg noodles as well (try recipe # 95311) but pre-packaged ones do fine too. Adjust the noodle amount to how you like it... either a lot of noodles or a little. Enjoy this soup when you are under the weather or just as a warm comfort food. We love it served with a nice crusty bread with butter. Oh, and my 2 year old loves this too! It's perfect for little fingers and noodles and veggies are soft for them to chew. -- posted by Dans La Lune

Easy Frog Eye Puddin'

My uncle was a torturer of young children. He was in high school when my brothers and cousins and I were in grammar school. He would tell us that tapioca pudding was made from frog's eyes and none of us would eat it so he ate the entire bowl himself. He also told us that Jell-o was made from pony bones to scare us from eating it. So here is the version of instant tapioca pudding my mother and grandmother would make which is adapted from the Kraft Minute Tapioca box- Frog's eyes are optional. -- posted by Secret Agent

Frozen cranberries may be used in place of fresh - Chop before thawing. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Delicious Organic Green Smoothy

When my breastfed daughter was around 10 months I started noticing something wasnt quite right, so I went to my Midwife & it turns out I had extremely low iron. Normal is 12 & I was at 7. She told me to be sure to eat my leafy greens, we'll in the hot humidity of South Western Florida the cooler your food is the better! This is so good, my daughter & I drink one every other day now & my iron level is up to a 13 after just one month!!! I can just imagine what its done for her!

I have tried many variations to switch it up a little, adding yogurt makes for a smoother texture (and the active cultures never hurt) Apple Juice can be substituted if you dont have OJ in the house. Mango (i used frozen to avoid the prep) Use your imagination -- posted by mrs.cubana

Frozen Baby Meal 4 of 6 (Chicken & Broccoli)

This is one of six frozen baby meals I used to make for my son. A friend gave me the combination and with minimal preparation you save yourself time and money. All six are really pretty good and I've made them for myself in a pinch. I would either try to use leftover meat from other dishes I'd prepared or intentionally make extra to use for these meals. My son used to have a three-compartment baby tray with lid and I'd put one or two frozen cubes in the first slot, a little baby vegetable in the second slot and a little baby fruit in the last slot and he was set for lunch. I'd have his tray ready the night before or in the morning and by lunch the frozen cube(s) had almost thawed and just needed a little warming in the microwave. The serving sizes are difficult to determine since it is dependent on the age of the child. -- posted by Queen Puff

Pancakes With Jarred Baby Food - Simple and Very Tasty

It is a trick to get my kids to eat veggies, so I started using jars of baby food in pancakes to boost the nutritional value. I prefer the orange vegetables such and carrots, sweet potatoes, and corn and sweet potatoes. The pureed consistency mixes easily into the pancakes and the flavor I have found can be quite tasty. It isn't just for the kids, either. This is so flexible I have used jars of fruit too, but since the veggies are the hardest thing for me to get my kids to eat, I usually use those. You can add wheat germ for an added nutritional boost. I like to use the Log Cabin Lite syrup - there is no high fructose corn syrup and the reduced sugar does not seems to reduce the taste at all. These can be frozen or refrigerated after being made for easy make ahead breakfasts. You could also use pancake mix as your dry ingredient base, I suppose. Have fun! -- posted by Mama Wendy

My Kids Favourite Pasta Meal.

Despite the fact that my two young children go through picky phases, they have decided that they both LOVE this pasta. DS especially can't get enough of the stuff & I am very happy as it's a healthy, filling meal suitable for all the family. I use the wholewheat tiny pasta shells (sold as conchigliette) but you can use any small pasta really. We like to serve this with a green salad & crusty bread! This is also a nice dish to pulse in the blender for older babies. -- posted by Um Safia

Pumpkin Pancakes for Baby and Me!

A light, cakey, moist pumpkin spice pancake that is delicious as breakfast or snacks. Comes from "Cooking For Baby" cookbook by Lisa Barnes. For chidren over 12 mo. due to the baking soda. I like to water down pure maple syrup and brush it onto the pancake for a subtle, not-too-sweet addition, since it doesn't need much. -- posted by Dazy

Monster Size Breakfast Cookies

These are Healthy, non-fat, tasty and can be made vegan easily. My Kids love this for breakfast and because they are so easy to make we make them often.
If you are in a hurry in the morning you can make these ahead, though we like them warm, or you can mix the dry ingredients before and then just add the applesauce just before baking.
This makes 4 monster cookies. -- posted by paxye

Amazing Chicken Noodle Soup With Acorn Squash

Don't be deceived by the lack of added seasonings. It is full of flavor! Adding the squash makes the whole thing rich and smooth, with a color and consistency similar to Kraft Mac'N'Cheese! Delicious! Even my daughters loved it! (3 yrs & 7 mos) I just took the chicken out for my baby girl, mashed it up, and she couldn't have enough!
This recipe makes a whole stock-pot full, and it's super easy to make, so it's a great one to make and freeze the leftovers. I was going to, but it we scarfed it all up in 2 days! -- posted by Chef #1459874
