Overnight Mask for Problem Skin

Homemade Prickly-Heat/Rash Fighting Powder

This powder is awesome to use in the hot summer months when prickly heat/rash breaks out on the body due to excessive perspiration. It's best to stay cool at such a time. To do that, use this powder to stay cool and dry. I like to make a batch of this and store it in my refrigerator, so that when I apply this, I feel light and cool! Also, wear light clothing made from natural fibres such as cotton. My mom has always made me a new cotton lingerie ever since I can recall for every summer:-) This recipe is from the book Natural Beauty At Home by Janice Cox. -- posted by Charishma Ramchandani

Green Glow Face Mask

This mask isn't the prettiest, nor does it smell very appealing, but it has done wonders for my skin and leaves it very smooth. These ingredients are just a base, you can use almost anything you have on hand. I chose lavender oil because it heals acne scars, and dandelion, burdock root, and red clover because they have wonderful healing properties for adult acne. The parsley flakes also promote healing, as does the zinc. I take all of the supplements in pill form as well, and my complexion has much improved. There aren't any harsh ingredients, so I use this a few times a week and sometimes I leave it on longer. I also cleanse my skin before and after with pure glycerin soap. For scars, you can apply lavender oil directly onto skin with a q-tip and let it stay on your skin over night, this works for scars all over the body. This makes about 2 applications so you can either put half in the fridge for later or share with a friend, have fun! -- posted by 89240

Peppermint Oil Foot Rub

I found this a long time ago on the web. The peppermint oil stimulates while the aloe vera gel cools and moisturizes without being greasy. It feels so good on tired feet, and it's so easy to whip up. Only two ingredients! The recipe is enough for one application, but if you make more, or have any left, store it in a glass or plastic container in a cool, dry place. If you can't find the peppermint oil, your local drugstore should be able to order it for you.
Banana Bread Masque

Oatmeal is highly absorptive, hypoallergenic, and helps to soften skin. Oats have the best amino acid balance of all the cereal grains (amino acids work as water-binding agents in skin care products). Oats have also been clinically shown to help heal dry, itchy skin. Oat grains and straw appear in shampoos, dusting powders, moisturizers, and cleansing bars and more. Bananas are eaten fresh and used in salads, desserts, breads, and candy. Bananas are a good source of ascorbic acid (Vit. C), Vitamin B 6 , and potassium. -- posted by JustaQT

Because sugar molecules in honey can convert into other sugars (e.g. fructose to glucose), honey is easily digested by the most sensitive stomachs, despite its high acid content. It helps kidneys and intestines to function better.
Honey Sports Drink to Help Fight Fatigue and Exhaustion

Honey used before a workout increases the physical stamina & energy level of the human body since honey is easily absorbed in the blood. Honey used after a work out removes tiredness and fatigue almost instantly. Honey is primarily fructose and glucose so it is quickly absorbed by the digestive system.
Sniffle Buster Tea

Another tea from the book "Herbal Teas". The ingredients sound kind of strange, like stuff you would expect to see in the ingredients for a chicken recipe rather than a tea recipe, but it tastes really nice. Fennel helps expel mucus accumulations and soothes coughs and throats. Ginger is warming and helps relieve colds, coughs and flu symptoms. Rosehips are extremely high in vitamins A, E, K, P and especially C. One cup of rosehips has as much vitamin C as 150 oranges! They're also very rich in bioflavinoids and help ward off sore throats and colds. Sage is calming and helps of easy lung congestion, making it very useful for colds and flus. Thyme is very good for throat, broncial and lung disorders and has antispasmotic, excpectorant and sedative properties and is a strong antiseptic and germicide. If you would like to make this a dry mix, you could use 1 Tbs each dry ginger (the bits, not the powder) and dried orange peel- this will increase the servings to 18. -- posted by Roosie

Ginger, Scallion Root Tea

This is a curative formula traditionally used in Chinese households as a specific remedy for curing colds, flu, and other bronchial ailments of the "cold" type.(This phrase denotes those bronchial ailments accompanied by chills rather than fever. Since the tea is a warming yang formula, it should not be used for colds accompanied by fever.) It is also an effective therapy for "stomach colds" accompanied by diarrhea, for nausea and motion sickness, and for chronically cold hands and feet.

Sage Tea

It has been said American people would do well if they would use sage instead of tea and coffee. The Chinese make fun of the American people because they buy the expensive tea for their drink and pay a big price for it, while the Chinese buy sage from America for a small price and drink that for their tea, which is a most wonderful remedy. The Chinese know that the sage tea will keep them well, while the tea that we buy from the Chinese makes us sick, is a cause of great nervousness and one of the causes of insanity. Sage tea is very soothing to the nerves, good for stomach troubles, gas, makes an excellent gargle for the throat, will expel worms, stop bleeding of wounds, good for liver and kidney troubles, a good wash for wounds, good hair tonic, fever reducer, and good for circulation. This tea should not be boiled, just steeped. Information came from Back To Eden by Jethro Kloss. -- posted by Sharon123

Garlic Tea

In Mexico, or Spain for that matter, garlic tea is served up for coughs or colds. People swear by it! The garlic oils inhibit cough and cold microbes, and they are effective decongestants. Lemon juice reduces and thins mucus, which makes it easier to unclog a stuffed up respiratory system. Lemon juice also changes the body's pH, making it less hospitable to viruses and bacteria.
After reading many different crock pot potpourri recipes I came up with this one, and my house smells wonderful! :) If you don't have a small crock pot, just use a sauce pan and simmer on your stove. These are fun to throw together because you can use what ever you want to create the scent you want and you can't really mess up.
Simple Mosquito Bite Remedy

I learned this from one of my high school teachers. I remember she had told my mom about how missionaries will sometimes carry large amounts of baking soda with them on their trips for many different uses. This is one of them, and it works surprisingly well if you use it right.

NOTES: Works best on fresh mosquito bites and will sometimes make them disappear altogether. Will work on older ones by diminishing their size and itchiness. Do not use on open sores. Will help with other insect bites, but will sting badly on certain types such as ant bites. You can try it, but don't say I didn't warn you. You may also use salt (equal amount) in place of the baking soda, but I don't remember if it works as well, and it may sting more. The baking soda method might sting a little, but no worse then Benadryl sprays, etc. Be patient. It's best to just leave it on until you forget it's there and the bite goes away. Once it does, you may wash the baking soda off with water. Recipe can be easily doubled, quadrupled, etc. Just use equal amounts. -- posted by Ransomed by Fire

The recipe calls for original Listerine, zaar wouldn't let me put in as an ingredient. I have tried this and it works great for dry itchy skin. His dandruff disappeared. -- posted by Miss Rat...
