Vegan Brownies

My sister used to bake these every day to sell at a cafe at school. I often bring these to vegetarian/vegan potlucks because they are quick and everyone seems to really like them.

Please note - these are pretty good, but the other vegan brownie recipe I have posted (Recipe #25230) is way better!! (I think). -- posted by pollen

Diabetic Grape Nuts Bars

I made these for my Baci ("grandmother" in Polish) because she has to watch her blood sugar. Loving her with all my being makes me worry about her well-being. I decided to try this recipe (and another Oatmeal Bar recipe) and give her an alternative to eating baked goods for a "quick fix." She preferred the other recipe and recommends this recipe to those who like Grape Nuts. She says the bars reminded her of Grape Nuts pudding. -- posted by nomnom

Brownies (fat and Dairy Free)

The secret to the incredible texture of these brownies is the prune puree. The prune puree also provides a rich, creamy texture. You'll swear it tastes like there's butter in this recipe, but there isn't. Good brownies and since they are fat free I decided to frost them with a little bit of butter-frosting. Instead of honey in the cake, I used 3/4 cup of pure maple syrup and the rest honey. I'm a Canadian what can I say, maple syrup for me all the way! -- posted by Olga Drozd

Rich and Chewy Low Fat Brownies

Amazingly rich and chewy, you would never know these are low fat. I have people asking me for this recipe whenever I make it. The applesauce is the secret ingredient in these delicious brownies! One suggestion I have to make them fudgier is to use a very high quality cocoa. I usually use Watkins or Epicure Selections and found a big difference from that and the kind you can buy in the store. It makes them a real dark chocolate in the middle and they are rich and chewy! This recipe also doubles well and will fit into a 9x13 pan. -- posted by trishypie

Brownie Mix - Amazing Every Single Dang Time

I found this one at www.stretcher.com while looking for "homemade baking mixes". This recipe comes out rich and fudgy every single time. It's also very easy to put together initially. Prep time is the time it takes to mix a full batch of brownie mix and put it in bags. Putting it in bags is not necessary, it's just something I do to make an easy thing even easier. Please Note: I have changed the Yield. It was 12 bags. I made a batch tonight and got 10 bags. In my neck of the woods, the cost of each bags-worth of mix comes to $0.53, making this the least expensive dessert in my cookbook. I arrived at this price using Hershey's cocoa. -- posted by Annie H

Everyday Chocolate Brownies

This recipe is from the Feb. 2006 issue of Vegetarian Times. I have yet to try it.
From VT:
These fudgy brownies are really quite light. Soft tofu is the secret ingredient- it moistens and binds the mixture yet, flavorwise, stays in the background. These freeze well and are even tasty eaten directly from the freezer. -- posted by Haribol!

Oat and Fig Squares

Figs, rich in antioxidants, are combined with fiber-filled oats, whole-grain flour, and honey to make a snack that is healthier than a standard cookie or energy bar. I think they are quite delicious! The recipe is adapted from one published in "Delicious Living", a magazine provided complimentary by our local health food store; it was included in a feature on reducing sugar cravings and making healthier substitutions. Be sure to use whole-wheat pastry flour--you won't get the same results with regular whole-wheat flour. -- posted by GaylaJ

Low-Fat Fudge Brownies

After finding the recipes for low fat brownies on the Zaar lacking, I decided to create my own recipe. Here is what I've come up with, much lower in fat and still delicious. I've put the molasses as optional, because I've made it with out, but I think it really enhances the flavor. You may stir in 1/2 cup chopped nuts after the last step, but that will add more fat to the recipe. And, you may use two squares unsweetened baking chocolate instead of the cocoa, oil, and extra tablespoon of applesauce -- posted by MissAli

This is super simple recipe my aunt used to make for us when we were kids. It's sweet and chewy. I'll bet you can come with lots of options to 'jazz' it up like letting chocolate chips melt on the top once the cooking is complete. -- posted by Loves Bakin

Easy Vegan Pumpkin Cake With Shaved Chocolate

Fast, easy, fairly-healthy cake recipe. This is great for cutting and wrapping individual servings and storing in the refrigerator for 2 weeks! Note: this is much better with chocolate shavings than chips because the fat from the chocolate is able to melt into and give richness to this otherwise low-fat cake. -- posted by michellehauser

Chickpea Blondies (Gluten-Free)

My cousin made a batch of these and they were quite good. They're almost healthy for you and Gluten-Free to boot! Her's were very gooey (which made them extra yummy).
Low Fat Brownies

The original recipe called for 1/2 cup of canola oil, and it served 6. The recipe stated it only contained 1 gram of fat per serving, but I looked up canola oil online and it has 14 grams of fat per tablespoon, which is about 120 grams of fat for 1/2 cup. Divide that by 6 that's 20 grams of fat per serving just with the canola oil. Did I do the math wrong? How is this recipe only 1 gram of fat each using canola oil? I haven't tried it yet, just wanted to see what the nutrition facts said after I took out the canola oil. -- posted by ocdchef

Super Sneaky Brownies

This is an even sneakier version of the "sneaky chef" brownies by Missy Chase Lapine. It is made with some of her "purple puree" but also utilizes black beans, which is a trick from Weight Watchers. No added fat to this recipe! No cholesterol! And if you omit the chocolate chips, it is vegan. It makes a very good, not overly sweet, cake-y brownie. NOTE: the purple puree part of the recipe makes a good 1 1/2 - 2 cups. This recipe uses only 1/2 cup, so reserve remainder for another use. It freezes well. -- posted by Susiecat too
