'ohana Breakfast Bread

Adapted from a delicious bread served at Disney's Polynesian Resort. Ohana means "family". The pineapple and coconut give it a truly tropical taste! I have found using the food processor makes the dough fool-proof, and I mix my yeast mixture in a large Pyrex measure so it is easier to pour into the processor. -- posted by Chef Luvfood

Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Quesadillas

I happen to love those BBQ chicken pizzas, especially with a little pineapple on top. So here's a lunch time creation when pizza dough or bread was not an option. Quick and so good! If I cook chicken for this I boil a chicken breast (can be frozen to begin with, just drop it in the water). After about 15-20 minutes just cut open the chicken to see if it is cooked all the way through and ready to use. If the chicken breast is defrosted it takes much less time, but time is estimated. I would encourage others to change this recipe up to create other pizza favorites making a pepperoni quesadilla, meat lovers, hawaiian, chicken alfredo, etc. Get creative! Pizza anyone? -- posted by Sabia

Mango Bread

Found in an old cookbook, it didn't fully bake in a loaf pan long after its baking time. So I use a 13x9x2" pan, cut like cake, and serve with vanilla bean ice cream. Mango juice can usually be found in the Asian food section. Make sure your mango is fresh and ripe. -- posted by caffeine junkie

Fresh Pineapple Ricotta Pie

Fresh Pineapple Pie

We're all familiar with fresh strawberry pies cloaked in a glace topping. In this pie, it's fresh pineapple tidbits that are cloaked in a luscious glaze. In other words this pie is a kissing cousin to the strawberry glace pie. The recipe was printed in the Jacksonville, Florida, newspaper by food editor Joel Crea who said that this was one of the best-received recipes the newspaper has printed. Included is a wonderful nut crust which you can use in a number of other pie recipes which call for an ordinary graham cracker crust. I haven't tried this yet, but wanted to share it for those of you who would like something different for your summer menus. -- posted by Lorraine of AZ

Lava Flow

While temporarily stationed at Hickam AFB in Honolulu, Hawaii I had my very first Lava Flow experience. Needless to say, it was love at first sip. These are VERY good and VERY addicting. This is the closest, easiest, and best duplicate of the true Hawaiian lava flow, so ENJOY! And if you ever get the chance to go to Hawaii for yourself, you've just got to try 'em on the beach with their fresh pineapple. GOOD STUFF!!!
Mango Banana Bread

I found this recipe on the alohaworld website (http://alohaworld.com/ono) and just adore it! I'm always looking for a good banana bread recipe and this one fits the bill! It's moist and has a nice crisp, almost caramelized crust. Now if I could just figure out how to keep the crust during storage! -- posted by Krista Smith

Like potatoes and bananas, the breadfruit is rich in starch, only some of which is converted into sugars upon ripening.
Hawaiian Chili

This is a great alternative to a traditional chili. It is especially great for Spring and Summer as it is much lighter and a bit sweet and spicy. It is very easy to make and can even be done on a camping trip as the ingredients (except for the cheese and bread) are all canned or dry.

I actually dreamed about this recipe, woke up the next day and wrote it down. I have never found a similar chili so I consider this a one of a kind creation. I love it for lunch or supper, especially with a slice of swiss cheese melted on top and slice of buttered french bread.

It is even better the second day as all the flavors get a chance to meld together. -- posted by clownes

Banana Colada (Non-Dairy Mocktail)

A luscious-looking drink for all you coconut lovers out there (like me!) who want something smooth and creamy, but don't want or can't have alcohol or dairy. I found this over at the World's Healthiest Foods site while browsing their recipe collection. This variation on the more traditional pina colada recipe is a good cure any tropical cravings you might have! You'll want to make sure to use ripe bananas for this recipe, as it will provide more flavor and sweetness that way. Also, make sure to use only enough liquid to keep the blender going. NOTE: Cook time is freezing time for the bananas. If you're like me and usually have leftover ripe bananas already in the freezer waiting to be used, this recipe is a snap to put together. -- posted by Lynne the Pirate Queen

Hawaiian Tea Bread

I love this bread. It's so moist and versatile. I make it for breakfast, brunch, tea parties, and even desert. I like to use a mini loaf pan and give the loaves as gifts in a gift basket along with other "Hawaiian" treats. I also use valtrompia bread tubes in different shapes and then slice. The slices look so pretty on a plate. If you use the bread tubes, be sure to fold wax paper to fit over both ends of the tubes before fitting the lids on.
Banana Coconut Ice Cream (No Eggs)

We received an ice cream maker attachment for our KitchenAid mixer last Christmas. We also had a spare can of coconut milk left over from a curry recipe. After a few ice cream batches, I began wondering how to use the coconut milk in an ice cream recipe. This is the result. My favorite thing about homemade ice cream is the delicious taste from only a handful of ingredients, so this one is a simple, Philadelphia-style ice cream (no eggs).

It has a rich coconut flavor that isn't over-powering. The banana and (optional) rum complement the tropical theme. -- posted by calamari

Avocado, Banana and Mango Muffins

An unusual combination, to be sure, but one that looks so good I just had to share! I've recently discovered the wonders of avocados, and have been trying to find new ways to enjoy their heart-healthy benefits. Though I haven't yet tried these muffins (from the Kiwi Gardens B&B in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii), I will certainly do so the next time I have some extra avocados on hand.
Hawaii Da Kine Burgers W/ Sweet-Chili Glaze & Goat Cheese

Sutter Home's 2008 Build a Better Burger ® Winner!!!!
"Da kine" is a key phrase in Hawaiian Pidgin, the language of the "locals." It can mean almost anything, but commonly refers to something good or genuine, or as in this case, "the best."

This burger is as local as it gets, both in taste and ingredients. The patties are tender and juicy, thanks to fresh papaya and sweet onion, and are spiced with Hawaiian Portuguese sausage, which is so popular in Hawaii that it is on every breakfast menu (including McDonald’s). The accompanying salad employs heating oil to its smoking point, a local cooking method, resulting in a dynamite burger accompaniment. To complete the Hawaiian flavoring, I added a sweet glaze (Hawaiians love sweet and savory) and was inspired by our award-winning goat dairy to create a mouth-watering ginger-infused cheese spread. Ho, dat's da kine!
