Frosted Green Grapes for Garnish

These frosted grapes look beautiful hanging on the side of a glass filled with fruit salad or a chilled glass of Champagne. You may use castor surgar instead of the gelatin or granulated. An interesting point has been raised about the safety of eating these grapes when raw egg white is used and then they sit out. I leave it up to you - If you make them, dry them & use them fairly quickly I would not worry. If you do not like using any form of raw egg and eating it leave them as decoration only. -- posted by Bergy

Grape Dogs

United States Congressman The Honorable Steven C. LaTourette (Ohio) used his "Grape Dogs" recipe several years ago at a "Real Men Can Cook" contest for a charity in Lake County, Ohio and won. He says Grape Dogs are a crowd-pleasing appetizer at tailgate and cocktail parties, and also says the tangy sauce is delicious with meatballs. -- posted by Mille® ™

Diabetic Grape Nuts Bars

I made these for my Baci ("grandmother" in Polish) because she has to watch her blood sugar. Loving her with all my being makes me worry about her well-being. I decided to try this recipe (and another Oatmeal Bar recipe) and give her an alternative to eating baked goods for a "quick fix." She preferred the other recipe and recommends this recipe to those who like Grape Nuts. She says the bars reminded her of Grape Nuts pudding. -- posted by nomnom

Curried Chicken Salad

Delicious main dish salad, perfect for a summer lunch or light supper. I typically use Madras (hot) curry powder, but used a mild blend in this dish as I felt it would benefit from a lighter flavor. Use your own preference and adjust the amount to suit your taste. I garnished with fresh cilantro to add some color, but also ended up really enjoying the flavor it added. The original recipe does not give any chill time, but I think it tastes more balanced after some time in the fridge. -Adapted from Gourmet -- posted by GaylaJ

Copycat Rankin Irish Fruit Soda Bread

This makes a small Fruit Soda Bread loaf that I based on proportions listed for the Rankin brand of Irish Fruit Soda Bread made by Irwin's Bakery in Ireland. I have no idea how close it actually is to the real thing but the size and taste are sufficiently identical that I've listed as a copycat receipe. It makes a loaf that's basically known in Ireland as a poor man's cake. It's so incredibly nice I actually like it best on it's own. It's dead easy to make and requires no rise time and next to no kneading. Has the advantage that it can completely finished within 3/4 hour, and even baked on a griddle if absolutely necessary- for example when camping or in a survival situation. Bakes a 400g Loaf. The recipe looks quite long because of the notes and historical background at the bottom, but the loaf is really quick and easy to make. -- posted by Ethan UK

Gourmet Chicken Salad

This isn't your typical chicken salad. The sweetness of the seedless grapes, the lightness of the whipping cream, the crunch of the nuts and the dried fruit make a perfect complement to this chicken salad. It's just like chicken salad you would expect to find at a fancy restaurant, but it's super easy to make. I like to eat this with crackers as much as I like eating it as a sandwich. -- posted by Crafty Lady 13

Resveratrol Crunch-N-Munch

The French Paradox,,,the observation that the French suffer a relatively low incidence of coronary heart disease even though having a diet pretty rich in saturated fats. It is thought that their saving grace is coming from all the red wine that they drink. Red wine contains resveratrol, a natural substance that has been linked to the prevention of many diseases including cancer and also to healthy life expansion.
I love red wine but I also wanted to see what other foods contain large amounts of the stuff!! Surprisingly, peanuts!! I decided to put together a trek mix using some of the tasty resveratrol winners!!!
I find that I enjoy a mix of fruits and nuts with a little salt and a treat like chocolate rather than just a bowl of just nuts or just fruit. I used salted peanuts to give this mix that hint of salt and balance but you can definitely use raw peanuts along with all of these other raw ingredients. I hope you like the mix! -- posted by Chef*Lee
