Strawberry Salt Scrub

Here is another salt scrub I created and like. I normally wait with posting it until the scrubs are about a month old to see how well they keep. This time it is only 3 days old but I post it now to be included in the strawberry recipe swap on Zaar. I will up-date it in a few weeks time.

Flubber II (And Windbreakers)

Flubber is a blast to make and your kids will spend endless hours playing with it. It is the perfect indoor activity when the snow, rain, or (in my case) heat keeps you indoors. Your kids are limited only by their imaginations when they are given a big, rubbery pile of Flubber to play with. Even older kids will have a great time using it to play practical fart jokes (Windbreakers).

Flubber

There are other recipes for Flubber here, but this is the one I always use. From the Children's Museum of Houston. Great to do with the kids. Educational, too: "Combining the borax and glue with water causes a chemical reaction that forms a new compound with its own unique characteristics. Notice how the flubber can be molded and then returned to its original shape unlike glue, which becomes solid, or the powdery borax." I always buy school glue on sale before school starts and save it to make this through the year. I have never had this stain and it is easier to clean up than playdoh. Most fun at room temperature. Would be great as a party favor. -- posted by LonghornMama

It turns out well and keeps on the shelf for a REALLY long time in a freezer bag.
Spiced Applesauce Ornaments I (Non-Edible) Ingredients

These NON-EDIBLE Ornaments where made often when my children where young. These make great bows for gifts that can be kept forever. You can use any cookie cutter shape and make them all year. Great for bridal shower favors or place cards with names attached to pretty ribbon. Have fun and don't for you children would love to help with this one as well.
You can speed up the drying in a very low oven.
Decorate with glue and glitter, feathers, ribbon, buttons whatever you find that won't attack bugs! No sugar.
Make these as gift tags and wright names on them with the glue and glitter. Or use the decorative glues.
When fragrance fades use just a drop or two of Essential Oils placed right on the back.

Crystal Ornaments (Borax)

My daughters and I make these every year. You can change the look of the crystals by using different color and textures of pipe cleaners (chenille stems). Just choose your color and choose your shape: stars, snowflakes, trees, gingerbread men. The girls especially love using glittery white and silver ones to make 'snowflakes'.

We don't just do these at Christmas, either We've used them on our Christmas tree, to hang in our windows, to decorate packages and gift baskets, for grandparents, initials (fun to spell out the kids' names), mobiles, etc. One year we found red and white striped pipe cleaners and made really cute hearts for Valentine's Day to take with a plate of cookies to some shut-in's. They make darling flowers, too. The only limit is your imagination. :o) They are fairly sturdy but the crystals can be knocked off if hit too hard so we spray ours with clear acrylic spray paint/shellac when they're dry (especially the ornaments that we want to use year after year). We haven't tried adding food color to the water yet, but that's on our list of possible variations to see if it works the same. We have also tried reheating and reusing the solution, but with mixed results and you would need to dissolve more Borax in if you do that. -- posted by winkki

Lavender Vanilla Bath Salts

Escape into tranquillity and pamper yourself and give to friends that need to unwind. Epsom salts will soothe tired muscles, while gently softening the water for a luxurious bath experience. Glycerin a skin moisturizer can be found at health food stores, some drug stores, or major department stores depending on where you live. Its also available on the Internet. I used Epsom, salt but feel free to use Sea and or Kosher Salt. I made this for my DD's Bridal shower as favors. I upped the recipe to 20 pound of salts. Placed yellow and blue (wedding colors) salts in 50 wine glasses topping with plasic wrap which you can't see and then topped with satin trimmed toule held on with thank you ribbon.
Optional: I also placed whole vanilla pods with some salt in a coffee grinder till fine. The aroma's are heavenly! -- posted by ~Rita~

The Best Playdough Recipe

This recipe is from my children's preschool art teacher. This truly is the best ever playdough recipe. It will last for several months in an airtight container. No refrigeration is needed. In addition to the food coloring you can add extracts or spices to give it different smells, though these can change how much flour you need to add. -- posted by megnbrycesmom

Insomnia Tea

These herbs are known for helping relax and make you sleepy. Drink this before bedtime and get a good nights sleep! The original recipe calls for 1 1/2 oz Vervain leaves, but Zaar won't let vervain go through so I have modified it. Please feel free to use the vervain, it is good for nervousness, will tone up the system, good for stomach troubles. Adapted from Herbal Teas. This may be put in a jar with directions and given as a gift too, perhaps with some bath crystals and a good book! You may also use valerian instead or with the vervain. Look in your health food stores for these teas. -- posted by Sharon123

Bird Houses

These darling little bird houses are made with collected wine corks. I made 10 of them (center pieces) for my daughter's bridal shower. Each is different in little ways! I've collected corks from many different wine that we drank and from those that gave to me. My Best Dad in the world went and bought me some never used for me to use too. He makes his own wine! For those that want an easy way just ask your favorite restaurant to give you the corks they throw away! The bird house are held together with hot glue sticks. Spanish moss or dried herbs( for a beautiful aroma) can be used to fill in the spaces and give it that lived in feeling. Decorate as you want! I uploaded picture step by step to help with assembling.
The birds, butterflies, ladybugs are your choice. Be creative as you want! -- posted by ~Rita~

Body Butter Whip

This is a light, tropical and luscious body butter that smells almost good enough to eat! I wouldn't however!!! I received this recipe in a monthy e-newsletter I receive from Nature's Gift. It is a wonderful small company in TN which specializes in essential oils and aromatherapy supplies. I love applying this butter right after I get out of the shower since it literally melts into your skin and leaves you soft and silky. It is wonderful in the winter but you may find it a little heavy in the warmer months. I remedy this situation by applying the butter sparingly after showering while my body is still damp... the water combines with the oils in the butter and helps emulsify it...right into your skin. I love the light, tropical scent from the coconut oil and cocoa butter... the essential oils are optional, but I think you will find them heavenly! I have a special bowl and beaters I use just for this recipe... just so I don't use them for anything else. Be sure to store this butter in a cool place since it will melt and turn into a soupy mess! -- posted by atlfitgirl

Citron (Etrog) Pomander

The etrog (citron) is a citrus fruit that is used by Jews every year during the holiday of Sukkot (late September, early October, depending on the lunar calendar). It's entire purpose during the week-long holiday is to smell nice. Yes, that's it, we just smell the thing. After the holiday is over you can chop up the etrog and make jam. What I like to do is to stud it with cloves and then use it as the most aromatic besamim for the havdalah service signifying the end of the Sabbath. Aside from the etrog and the cloves, you will need a thin crochet hook to pierce the fruit before sticking in the clove. I use a 0.75 hook, but a 1.00 will work just as well. These babies last for years, and if you already have one or two (or ten or eleven, as is the case in my house), they make lovely gifts. BTW, you can also use a lemon or an orange, the results are the same, just shaped differently. -- posted by Mirj

Creamy Smooth Body and Hand Cream

Chef #248023 inspired me to make this after I made her Recipe #256951.
Shea butter is known for its cosmetic properties as a moisturizer and emollient. As well as an anti-inflammatory agent. Shea butter can be effective at treating the following conditions: fading scars, eczema, burns, rashes, acne, severely dry skin, blemishes, dark spots, skin discolorations, chapped lips, stretchmarks, wrinkles and in lessening the irritation of psoriasis. Also provides natural UV sun protection but don't rely on it as a sunscreen because it filters out only little amounts of UV rays. Shea butter absorbs rapidly into the skin without leaving a greasy feeling. It can be bought on line.

Bath Bombs With Mango Butter

Years ago I had a toiletry business and I got into creating different types of bath bombs. These would surpass any commercial bath bomb by far. They don't have to be made up in molds, the product can be left loose and packaged into pretty bags. If you can't find the mango butter, another butter would be acceptable. -- posted by Abby Girl

White Dragon Milk Bath

This is the bath milk formula I created when I was running a toiletry business years ago. This has all the good stuff that is needed for damaged, dry, or sensitive skin. Water is deadly to my skin and strips all the oils off my body, so I have learned that if I want good, healthy skin, I need to replenish with something every time I have a bath. It does make for a messy bath, but it is so worth it -- posted by Abby Girl

Extra Soothing and Aromatic Bath Salts With Milk

Holidays can be an expensive time of year for anyone. Here are some options to making your own bath salts. These make perfect gifts for anyone (teachers, grandparents, friends, family, etc.) and kids can make them too since all the ingredients are natural - just watch the coloring! I made them as side-gifts this past Christmas and they went over so well I was told I should be selling them! I even had a friend that mad them as gifts for her bridal party! I make these for myself all the time, sometimes for a single bath at a time!
Fire Cider (Cold, Flu and Sore Muscles)

This is a recipe from my sister. She is studying natural (herbal) medicine. She uses this in the cold season. It does NOT need to be refrigerated, but does take 2 months to cure before you can use it. She mixed up a batch for me yesterday, but it won't be ready for 2 months. She recommends putting parchment paper over the mouth of the canning jar before putting the lid on, to prevent the metal from rusting due to the vinegar. If you can't find organic vinegar, get the kind with the "mother" in it. I use Bragg's.
Horseradish is antibacterial, and expectorant and a digestive aid. Garlic is antibact.and great for the immune system and colds and infections. Ginger eases nausea, colds and congestion. Cayenne is anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant, aids digestion and circulation. And onions have a zillion health benefits!

To keep your hands and feet soft and supple, use this! Lemons and limes are a great source of natural fruit acids that dissolve dry skin and sugar is an excellent exfoiator. This recipe comes from Suzi Weiss-Fischman, OPI executive vice president and artistic director, via from Better Homes & Gardens magazine. The scrub is similar to their OPI Tropical Citrus Scrub. -- posted by Sharon123
